The blade came thrusting toward Qin Changsheng so suddenly that it startled him. Fortunately, Momo had noticed it long before. At the instant the blade was about to pierce his chest, a huge black hand materialized before him and caught the weapon.

Qin Changsheng was still shaken when Lu Qingyu struck from beside him.

“Nightless Monkey!”

As Lu Qingyu’s voice rang out, a wave of extreme cold swept past Qin Changsheng’s right ear. A transparent tunnel suddenly appeared in the water, as thin as a branch, rapidly extending before Qin Changsheng’s eyes and shooting straight toward the shadowy figure.

The figure in the distance shuddered violently. Qin Changsheng felt the surrounding water churn into a turbulent haze.

The transparent tunnel promptly shattered into countless fragments. When Qin Changsheng reached out and touched one, he discovered that it was an exceedingly slender icicle.

“So this is your ability?” Qin Changsheng asked, still shaken, as he looked at Lu Qingyu behind him. Before Qin Changsheng had even reacted, Lu Qingyu had instantly formed an icicle and sent it hurtling through the depths toward their attacker.

No wonder Lu Qingyu had said that being underwater gave them an advantage. This was more than an advantage—it was like playing in a private fishpond! Underwater, everything around him served as raw material. With his ability to generate ice and his impeccable aim, killing everyone here would be effortless.

Remembering that he had just threatened Lu Qingyu, Qin Changsheng could not help feeling that he had overestimated himself.

Though he was somewhat frightened, his face remained defiant. After all, Lu Qingyu was holding him at knifepoint now, and no matter how one looked at it, Qin Changsheng could not help harboring some resentment.

The shadowy figure had vanished without a trace. Frowning, Qin Changsheng asked, “Did you... did you kill him?”

“What? Are you still hesitating?” Lu Qingyu sneered. “Don’t forget—he was the one who attacked you first.”

Qin Changsheng swallowed. “That may be true, but you didn’t have to kill him! Couldn’t you just injure him and drive him away?”

Lu Qingyu looked disdainful. “Idiot. If he were injured underwater, do you think he could survive? Killing him outright was the more merciful option. I never thought that after all I’ve said, you would still be so stubborn. You want to play the good man? Then go ahead and be a good man in death!”

“Let me tell you something! This is a game of survival of the fittest. If you insist on being a good man, you’ll only die first! I helped you this time, but next time, I won’t lift a finger for you.”

Lu Qingyu’s ruthless words left Qin Changsheng unable to argue. He could not help mentally slapping himself. Why could he not say anything now? Wasn’t that just proving that everything Lu Qingyu had said was right?

But that was the truth. No matter how unwilling he was to admit it, Lu Qingyu had seen straight through Qin Changsheng.

At that moment, Qin Changsheng felt that his entire worldview had collapsed. In order to stay alive, he had no choice but to take the lives of others with his own hands. This was different from the first game. There would be no terrifying monster to serve as his shield. Killing someone had become his own decision.

Lu Qingyu seemed unwilling to waste any more time. He raised his head and looked upward. In the shallower waters, where the light was stronger, numerous figures were still moving. Clearly, the others were also fighting for survival.

Even if Qin Changsheng had not come along, it would not have mattered. The fundamental reason Lu Qingyu had cooperated with him was simply to eliminate one opponent on his own behalf. He knew that Qin Changsheng’s ability was equally troublesome underwater. As long as Qin Changsheng did not interfere, Lu Qingyu was fully confident that he could deal with the remaining small fry.

Lu Qingyu had considered the worst-case scenario from the very beginning. Now that he was bound together with Wu Yutong, he could ensure that Qin Changsheng would no longer hinder him.

That said, Lu Qingyu was still rather disappointed. During the first game, Qin Changsheng had left a deep impression on him. Whether dealing with the Rice Hero or defeating Corpse Mountain, Qin Changsheng’s abilities had far exceeded his expectations.

For someone so powerful to possess such childish judgment was simply lamentable. Lu Qingyu felt as though he had missed out on an exceptional teammate.

Still, so be it. There were always people in this world who possessed talent yet squandered it through foolishness and delay. Heaven had always been fair; it rarely allowed one person to possess every virtue. Since Qin Changsheng could not adapt to this game, that was his own problem. Once this round was over, the two of them would be enemies. By then, Lu Qingyu believed he would have countless ways to kill Qin Changsheng.

Rather than waste time on this coward, it would be better to follow the original plan and eliminate the other ability users who possessed Mythic Beasts.

Seeing Qin Changsheng wearing an expression of resignation, Lu Qingyu gave a contemptuous smile. What a pity. If every ability user besides himself were this useless, things would be much easier.

Just as Lu Qingyu turned to leave, he suddenly felt something seize him by the lower back and yank him around.

Lu Qingyu froze. When he turned, he saw that the person holding him was Qin Changsheng.

What was this fellow up to now?

Lu Qingyu grew angry, and a murderous intent arose in his heart. Could Qin Changsheng have once again been dragged down by that pointless compassion of his, losing his senses and trying to stop Lu Qingyu?

Had all those words really fallen on deaf ears? Lu Qingyu did not care about Cao Mengmeng’s or Wu Yutong’s lives. If Qin Changsheng truly intended to obstruct him, Lu Qingyu would not hesitate to use Wu Yutong’s life as leverage and kill both of them.

But just as Lu Qingyu was about to strike, he noticed that something was wrong with Qin Changsheng’s expression.

Qin Changsheng did not look as though he were trying to stop anyone. Instead, his anxious expression revealed genuine concern for Lu Qingyu’s life.

Lu Qingyu needed only a brief moment to think. Driven by a powerful instinct, he immediately followed the direction in which Qin Changsheng was pulling him and threw himself aside.

Whoosh!

The sound of something tearing through the water came from behind his head. Had he been one second slower, the blade would have pierced straight through his skull!

After narrowly evading the fatal strike, Lu Qingyu was drenched in cold sweat. What kind of ability could be so formidable underwater, moving almost as quickly as his Nightless Monkey?

“Careful!” Qin Changsheng warned only after pulling Lu Qingyu away.

The two of them immediately scanned their surroundings, remaining on high alert as they tried to determine who was launching the ambush.

Lu Qingyu saw the object that had shot toward him. It was a bone-like spike with a razor-sharp tip and a dark color. Something seemed to be drifting faintly from it.

“It’s poisoned,” Qin Changsheng said cautiously. “That thing is poisonous!”

Hearing this, Lu Qingyu quickly moved farther away from the venomous spike. At the same time, confusion welled up in his heart. Why did this thing look almost exactly like the attack that had ambushed Qin Changsheng earlier?

He soon discovered the answer.

Qin Changsheng held up his arm. The number branded upon it shone with scorching brilliance:

“68.”

The number of people remaining had not decreased. That could only mean one thing.

The attacker from before was not dead at all.
