Chapter 36: Fuxi and Nuwa
Bai Jing flew near Mount Buzhou, about to head toward the Wu Clan, when a voice called out from behind, “Fellow Daoist, please wait!”
Those five words sent a cold sweat down Bai Jing’s spine—such a summons was not to be taken lightly!
Still, Bai Jing halted, because the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
Turning around, he saw that the caller was none other than Fuxi. “So it’s you, Fellow Daoist Fuxi. It’s been over forty thousand years since we parted at Zixiao Palace. Your cultivation has advanced quite a bit!”
“You flatter me, Fellow Daoist Bai Jing. My cultivation remains stagnant at the early stage of Quasi-Sage, while you have taken the lead, breaking through to the mid-stage. I am no match for you.”
Bai Jing smiled without responding, a flicker of doubt crossing his mind. By all accounts, Fuxi was one of the top innate Divine Sages, and having joined the Demon Clan, he should be basking in their fortune.
Now, as the Demon Clan continued to expand and reach its zenith, Fuxi should have broken through to the mid-stage of Quasi-Sage by this time. Yet he remained at the early stage, which was quite puzzling.
Noticing Bai Jing’s silence, Fuxi shifted the topic, “Fellow Daoist Bai Jing, are you heading to the Wu Clan?”
“Yes. I have a good relationship with the Ancestor Wu, Emperor Jiang, and the Ancestor Wu, Houtu. I’ve been in seclusion for a while and thought to visit old friends.”
“I see. What is your impression of the Wu Clan?”
“The Wu Clan, like the Three Pure Ones, are the legitimate descendants of Pangu. They bear the responsibility of absorbing malevolent energy and clearing the earth’s ley lines. These years, they have been diligently repairing the western ley lines, contributing to the primordial wilderness. They are truly worthy of their Pangu lineage.”
Fuxi’s heart sank at Bai Jing’s words, which essentially reflected the collective view of all beings in the primordial world toward the Wu Clan.
The Wu Clan, especially the Twelve Ancestor Wus, had absorbed underground malevolent energy even before their transformation into humanoid form. After transforming, while they had hunted some living creatures, upon learning to cultivate millet, they greatly reduced their killing.
Since the Three Teachings discourse at Zixiao Palace, they had continued to absorb malevolent energy, repairing and clearing the ley lines. Now, a third of the shattered western earth’s ley lines had been restored by the Wu Clan.
This brought them considerable merit, strengthening their clan’s fortune and greatly enhancing the overall strength of their people.
Naturally, the Demon Clan did not wish to see the Wu Clan continuously amassing merit. Not long ago, they sent agents westward to stir trouble and slow the Wu Clan’s merit gains.
Unexpectedly, before the Wu Clan could respond, two fated sages of the west acted first, driving the Demon agents out of the western lands. Even Zhunti personally visited the Demon Clan’s Heavenly Court to issue a stern warning.
Zhunti’s cultivation in the primordial chaos violet aura had just reached the mid-stage of Quasi-Sage. Despite Emperor Jun and Taiyi’s disdain for Zhunti, they dared not truly harm him.
After all, Zhunti was a registered disciple of the Dao Ancestor, and with that status, who would dare show him disrespect?
In truth, Jiejin and Zhunti were not protecting the Wu Clan out of allegiance, but because the Wu Clan was repairing the western ley lines, which was crucial for the two’s mission to revive the west.
Once the western ley lines were restored, not only would the spiritual energy concentration rise, but more and more creatures would benefit and gain sentience—these were the future hopes of the west!
Therefore, the Demon Clan’s interference with the ley line restoration was, in Jiejin and Zhunti’s eyes, an obstruction to the west’s revival. Their urgency was understandable.
Unable to openly send agents west to disrupt the repairs, the Demon Clan resorted to attacking some Wu Clan tribes to distract them.
But the Wu Clan seemed oblivious, paying no heed.
Fuxi found this strange and decided to visit the ancestral lands of the Wu Clan at Mount Buzhou to probe. Unexpectedly, he met Bai Jing on the way, leading to their recent conversation.
“Fellow Daoist Bai Jing is going to the Wu Clan? By chance, I also intend to visit Ancestor Wu, Emperor Jiang. Shall we travel together?”
“Brother, you’ve just returned from the Heavenly Court yet haven’t visited me, your sister, first, but instead plan to go to the Wu Clan? What reason is this?” Nuwa’s voice rang behind them.
Bai Jing turned to see Nuwa, now at the mid-stage of Quasi-Sage cultivation, her Dao resonance nearly perfect. She seemed on the verge of breaking through to the late Quasi-Sage stage.
Her progress rivaled that of Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian.
“Fellow Daoist Bai Jing, my brother will no longer go to the Wu Clan. You should go yourself.” Saying this, Nuwa grabbed Fuxi and forcibly took him away.
Once back at the Daoist grounds of Mount Buzhou, Nuwa released Fuxi.
“Brother, why are you going to the Wu Clan?”
Fuxi did not hide anything from his sister. He spoke openly of the Demon Clan’s wariness toward the Wu Clan and his desire to observe what the Wu Clan had been up to lately.
Nuwa sighed, “Brother, you care too much about the Demon Clan’s affairs. For us, cultivation is paramount. Since you decided to join the Demon Clan’s Heavenly Court, you have devoted all your energy there.
I thought you joined to harness the Demon Clan’s fortune for your cultivation, but you have truly been dedicated to their court’s schemes, causing your cultivation to stagnate for a long time. Brother, you are pursuing the wrong path!”
Nuwa’s words struck Fuxi like thunder.
Indeed, he had been distracted lately. After joining the Demon Clan and gaining their fortune, he should have been preparing to sever his second corpse and break through to mid-stage Quasi-Sage, but he had spent too much time on other matters.
Realizing this, Fuxi suddenly awakened.
“Sister, I will no longer go to the Wu Clan. I will retreat into seclusion to sever my second corpse and break through to mid-stage Quasi-Sage.” With that, Fuxi transformed into a streak of light and flew back to his abode to begin seclusion.
Meanwhile, Bai Jing arrived at the Wu Clan ancestral lands.
Over twenty thousand years had passed since his last visit.
Compared to before, the atmosphere in the Wu Clan ancestral lands was noticeably more solemn.
Bai Jing greeted the grand Wu shaman Jiufeng, asking her to notify the Ancestor Wus.
Shortly after, Emperor Jiang personally came out to welcome him and led him into the Pangu Hall.
“Brother Bai Jing, long time no see!” Emperor Jiang laughed heartily, patting Bai Jing’s shoulder.
“I was in seclusion for twenty thousand years. Has anything significant happened in the Wu Clan during this time, Brother Jiang?”
“Nothing major, but quite a few minor incidents. First, Jiejin and Zhunti from the west have tried to court us.
Secondly, as the Demon Clan expands, more small tribes seek our protection under the Wu Clan.
Lastly, and most troublesome, the Demon Clan’s harassment of our other tribes has grown more frequent. I’ve already dispatched grand shamans from the ancestral lands to assist. If our Ancestor Wus were not currently studying the Twelve Heavenly Gods and Fiendish Array, trying to reunify a true spiritual essence, we would have sent aid ourselves.”
