“Exclusive broadcast from One City. The undead forces continue their advance toward One City. Just moments ago, there was a live confrontation between the undead army and our Phantom fighter jets. Everyone watching the live stream must have seen the undead’s overwhelming strength—it’s formidable. Our Phantom jets also performed exceptionally during the battle. Residents of One City! There is still time to evacuate. After today, with the undead army at our doorstep tomorrow, leaving will be impossible. Those wishing to leave will not be stopped!”

At this moment, every resident of One City was watching television at home. On the screen, a self-proclaimed war correspondent, an administrator, held an iron rod as he explained the current situation to the viewers.

As he finished speaking, the screen switched to footage of the undead army advancing. Countless undead creatures blanketed the hills and valleys, their sheer numbers imposing an almost suffocating pressure on those watching.

“Leaving is impossible now. For One City, for our home, what does death matter?”

“Let the children see this too. Some things they must know; hiding the truth won’t help!” A pale-faced middle-aged man spoke to his equally pale wife.

“The Phantom’s combat power is incredible. Even the Bone Dragon was overwhelmed. Though it fled, at the moment it turned invisible, the Bone Dragon seemed like a clown—so magnificent!”

“Indeed, that moment was almost surreal! Look at those undead, wandering aimlessly in the sky like fools. Long live the commander! The Phantom jets are magnificent!” Some younger residents, believing in the commander’s omnipotence, shouted loudly at home.

The residents had thought about fleeing, but where could they go? Outside was a world apart from here. Having lived in One City, no one could imagine returning to a life of constant peril. The people here were mostly simple folk from the lowest social strata.

One City was their hope; the city’s lord and commander was their faith. If not for the pressures of life, who would risk everything for tomorrow?

None of the residents left. Even if death awaited, they would stand or fall with One City. They shared the same ideals and looked upon the future with unwavering determination.

Shen Yi watched the myriad lives of the residents with a hint of emotion. “I hope nothing goes wrong. Otherwise, it would betray the trust these people have placed in us.”

Soon, from afar, the Phantom jet piloted by Hu Yu returned to One City. Since the city was now in defense mode and had no landing spots for jets, the Demon Emperor and Hu Yu were left at the city gates. The jet returned to the starport deep within the boundless forest to stand by.

“Let’s go, Uncle. Don’t just stare—that’s One City!” Hu Yu looked up at the Demon Emperor.

“Let’s go. Though this commander certainly has quite the attitude.”

“Well, Uncle, you don’t even know. I’ve never met him in person either, and I’m only level four. If you saw him, you’d probably be scared out of your wits. How could such a fool become a great alchemist? No, he should be called an alchemy god. A master isn’t this terrifying!”

“That’s true. I was overthinking it. The better the puppets, the less time the man has to train himself. But I wonder if you’re just making excuses for him,” the Demon Emperor said, his gentle gaze toward Hu Yu full of meaning.

“I’m not—I’m just telling the truth!” Hu Yu tugged the Demon Emperor toward the city gate, pulling him along as she pouted. “Once inside, you’ll see that everything I said is true. If you don’t believe me, I’ll show you something amazing!”

The heavy metal gates slowly opened, revealing a world of steel. The houses, the roads, all forged from iron. Distant skyscrapers loomed—so tall the Demon Emperor momentarily mistook them for human mage towers. Yet, even for mages, these were extraordinarily high. The Demon Emperor paused, letting Hu Yu pull him further inside.

Two rows of machine gunners stood on either side of the gate. Further in were flamethrower soldiers and battlefield medics. Phantom agents had also been summoned, two standing in formation to welcome them.

As the two demons entered, they saw an anti-gravity vehicle waiting at the gate. An administrator opened the door and gestured for them to enter.

“What is this?” The Demon Emperor was puzzled.

“Hurry and get in! These are all the commander’s puppets. The first time I came here, I was shocked too,” Hu Yu said excitedly, pulling the Demon Emperor inside the metallic beast.

Once seated, as Hu Yu eagerly introduced things to the confused Demon Emperor, Shen Yi’s voice came through the anti-gravity vehicle’s communication system, “Hu Yu, may I know this gentleman’s name?”

“A voice transmission?” This indicated the commander’s cultivation was formidable.

The Demon Emperor didn’t seem keen on voice transmission. No, that wasn’t right.

He extended his thoughts, spreading them around, attempting to locate the commander’s position.

But after searching for a long time, he found nothing. “Impossible. I can’t detect him? That’s embarrassing.” He expanded his search radius.

Seeing the Demon Emperor silent, Hu Yu excitedly said, “This is my uncle. He’s here for a trade!”

“Trade matters are negotiable. But I don’t have much time at the moment. I’m sure you understand my current situation.”

“Of course. Commander, finish your business first, then we can discuss cooperation. If you need anything, just say!”

The Demon Emperor, realizing this wasn’t voice transmission but rather a direct communication device like a phone, spoke casually.

“Very well. Welcome, friends of the demon tribe. Enjoy your time in One City!”

“Commander, you’re too polite.”

The anti-gravity vehicle slowly moved through the city as the Demon Emperor and Shen Yi ended their conversation.

Looking out the window, the Demon Emperor felt as though he were in another world. What was this? The so-called anti-gravity vehicle, the Phantom jet, the steel buildings outside—none of it seemed real.

“What kind of madman, what kind of genius could have developed alchemy to this extent?”

“Uncle, from the voice, this commander must be young. It’s hard to imagine!”

“Don’t be deceived by appearances. You must understand, all living beings fall into two categories: those who deceive and those who are deceived.”

“I understand, Uncle.”

“Indeed. Our demon tribe must master this path, or survival on this continent will be difficult.”

Hu Yu and the Demon Emperor chatted as they admired the passing scenery.

Soon, they arrived at the community entrance. An administrator personally guided them to their rooms.

The Demon Emperor’s room was next to Hu Yu’s. The community’s facilities and the elevator made the Demon Emperor awkward.

He didn’t know what some things were for and was too embarrassed to ask. He simply followed whatever the administrator instructed.

Am I not the proud Demon Emperor?

Hu Yu saw the Demon Emperor’s embarrassment and struggled to hold back laughter.

The administrator kept a straight face the entire time, showing no sign of friendliness or amusement—a stone-faced mask.

His speech was mechanical but thorough—explaining elevator use, garbage disposal, and all manner of daily living advice.

Finally, once they reached their quarters—

“Are all these people really this formidable?” The Demon Emperor stared at Hu Yu for a moment before blurting out.

“Not really,” Hu Yu touched her forehead then said, “The residents here are normal. It’s just these administrators—they’re all stone-faced, from what I understand.”

“This commander seems decent, but his subordinates look incredible!”

“Probably just poorly disciplined.”

“Clearly weak, but they act like they’re invincible!”

Whenever the Demon Emperor thought of that stone-faced administrator lecturing him like a teacher, he wanted to slap him flat!

Who gave him the courage? The commander?

Didn’t you see? Even the commander had to be polite to me!

Wait—could it be that the commander instructed him to act like that? Trying to warn me?

Hu Yu, watching his uncle’s fluctuating expression, knew exactly what he was thinking.

She quickly said, “What are you thinking, Uncle? If the commander were that kind of person, he wouldn’t show such sincerity. Think about the Phantom jets, the Vulture war vehicles…”

The Demon Emperor’s expression instantly improved, so fast Hu Yu barely caught it.

Smiling, the Demon Emperor looked at Hu Yu and said,

“Yes, exactly. I won’t think about it anymore. Is that television set the one you mentioned? How does it work? Can it really cast mirror magic? I want to see it!”

He pointed excitedly at the refrigerator, a look of pride and anticipation on his face.

Hu Yu stared at her uncle, feeling his words were difficult to respond to.
