Chapter 39: Watching a Movie

Just as Wo Biao was preparing to strike, a pleasant ringtone suddenly rang out!
“What is that?” Wo Biao stared at Yang Dianfeng.
Yang Dianfeng was startled at first, but quickly understood what was happening.
Since he could not win anyway, he might as well remain composed. Ignoring Wo Biao, who was on the verge of exploding, he answered the Commander’s call.
“If you had called a moment later, no one would have answered,” Yang Dianfeng joked—an unusual occurrence for him.
“You took far too great a risk this time. Still, I did not expect things to change so quickly either.”
“Yeah.” Yang Dianfeng sounded somewhat dejected.
The swarm was just as powerful as the Commander’s mechanical puppets, yet in his hands, it had suffered a crushing defeat.
“It’s fine. Turn on the projection function on your phone. I’ve just sent you a video.”
By then, the orc army had begun arriving in waves. They were astonished to discover that the one who had inflicted such terrible losses upon them was actually this little human girl. She looked harmless enough, but in the eyes of the orcs, she was a demon—the leader of all devils.
The orc army gradually surrounded the area.
“What is that? Could it be the legendary phone?”
“Can someone explain what that demon girl is doing, holding a glowing piece of metal and talking to herself?” A minotaur looked around.
“Brother Bull, I know! Last time we came here, I saw an old man on the city wall holding one of those things. It seemed to let him speak to someone far away. Very sinister!”
“How are you still alive?”
“...”
Some were puzzled, while others wildly speculated, but none of them attacked. They merely surrounded the area.
While the orcs were arguing among themselves, Yang Dianfeng aimed the phone at an empty patch of ground. Before long, a phantom image appeared there.
The projection transformed into an extraordinarily lifelike scene: an undead army preparing to attack a city.
Wo Biao’s eyes narrowed. Nearly half the beastmen began to stir restlessly. What in the world was this? Everyone was utterly shaken.
“My heavens! What kind of treasure is this? It carries an entire undead army around with it! How are we supposed to fight that?”
“May the Beast God bless me with one of those phones! With it, I could unify the entire continent!”

“Stop talking nonsense! The orcs have already lost enough face. It’s only a magical projection. Don’t be afraid—it has no power to attack!” an old boar-headed man said, leaning on his cane.
As the discussion grew louder, Wo Biao raised a hand and pressed it down, signaling everyone to quiet down. The noise subsided considerably.
The projection floated above the empty ground like a painted scroll, with the undead army appearing as creatures within the painting. Of course, it could only be viewed from one side; there was nothing to see from behind.
The visible side happened to face Wo Biao. As a result, half the orcs could not see anything. Those who could see were calling their friends over to watch the undead.
As time passed, the orcs gradually moved toward the side where the image was visible.
There were simply too many of them. Those in the back could not see, so they began piling themselves up like a human pyramid.
One climbed onto another to watch.
To the beastmen, magic was mysterious and immensely powerful. They possessed no magic themselves. Through astonishing perseverance, they had trained their bodies and forged their bones, but they could not understand such things. They usually kept their distance from the unknown—yet they were still unbearably curious.
The beastmen who had originally surrounded the area all rushed to one side. Those in the rear even climbed on top of one another, with the minotaurs becoming the most popular mounts.
Some of those who still could not see began jumping in place. They leaped astonishingly high, catching a glimpse of the image for a few seconds at a time.
Yang Dianfeng was also surprised that the phone possessed such a function, but the orcs’ behavior left him completely dumbfounded. The first row was understandable. The second row had become a display of beast-riding. But the ones jumping behind them were impossible to tolerate. With hundreds of thousands of beastmen jumping at once, he could not understand how many of them were actually able to see the image. They kept leaping nonstop just for those few precious seconds of viewing time.
“What a bunch of simpletons,” Yang Dianfeng thought.
Wo Biao paid them no attention either. He simply watched the projected image with Yang Dianfeng.
The picture was astonishingly clear, and familiar undead figures even appeared within it.
“Isn’t that Kidd? This projection is unbelievably clear—countless times sharper than an ordinary projection!”
At that moment, the undead were marching forward in magnificent formation.
The overwhelming undead army was truly breathtaking. It was far more exciting than any motion picture. The orcs had never experienced the thrill of watching a film before, and they became so excited that they jumped even harder.
Wo Biao had clearly taken the center position in this viewing session, giving him the best possible vantage point and allowing him to enjoy an unparalleled visual spectacle.
The lion king’s enormous eyes were wide open, afraid that he might miss even a single scene.
As the Beast King, he had never received such treatment before. He found himself thoroughly enjoying it. After all, aside from the inhabitants of the city, hardly anyone could watch an undead army march from such an elevated perspective.
At the command center, Shen Yi was also amused by the foolish orcs and broke into a smile. He began calculating whether screening blockbuster films in another world might earn him a fortune. Could this be another way to make money?
He could almost see piles of bright, glittering ore raining down from the sky and transforming into resources. His heart filled with delight, and his eyes began darting about.
It seemed he had discovered an extraordinary business opportunity.
But making films in another world would require equipment, directors, actors, and a whole host of other things. After thinking it over, he decided to forget it. He felt he was straying farther and farther down a ridiculous path.
Soon, the scene shifted to a clash between ghost fighters and the undead army.
The orcs had assumed that the undead were about to attack the city, but the ghost fighters suddenly appeared and engaged the undead first.
When the ghost fighters first appeared, the orcs let out a chorus of astonished cries. Their expressions were exactly like those of people watching a film in a theater when an unbelievable scene suddenly appeared on the screen.

These ignorant, excitable orcs howled wildly. Once the battle began, their cries did not stop for even a moment.
It was simply too thrilling. What man could possibly resist such a spectacle?
Countless undead flying creatures were shot from the sky. Several ghost fighters charged into the undead horde, unleashing a furious barrage of fire.
Skeletal birds were blasted apart on the screen, and vampires were torn from the air. There were simply too many undead creatures for the fighters to destroy. Even the orcs realized that the astonishing flying puppets were doomed.
This was a battle between forces of completely unequal strength. The result could already be guessed, and there was no suspense at all.
The ghost fighters were swallowed by the undead tide.
Wo Biao was watching with rapt attention when the image suddenly changed. A lump of metal plummeted from the sky.
Unable to restrain himself, he asked Yang Dianfeng, “What is that?”
“Big Lion, don’t ask me. I have no idea either. This is my first time seeing it,” Yang Dianfeng replied.
Clearly, he did not know either.
Wo Biao was left with no answer, but neither of them took their eyes off the screen. They both wanted to know what use this suddenly appearing lump of metal had.
Because the image had abruptly changed, the surrounding cries grew quieter as well. Everyone stared at it in confusion.
What was this thing? Why were they no longer showing the flying puppets and the undead?
They had been enjoying themselves, and now they were being shown this instead. What was so interesting about it?
While everyone was still confused, the metal object plunged into the undead army.
Then came a flash of white light, followed by a thunderous roar that shook the heavens.
Every flying undead creature vanished from the world.
Wo Biao and the orcs were left completely stunned. Those who had witnessed the entire process unconsciously opened their mouths wide, their eyes vacant with shock.
What was this?
Divine punishment? No, the gods had vanished from the world long ago.
It was too exaggerated, too terrifying, too shocking. That was not an attack any human could unleash. Not even a complete corpse had been left behind. So many undead creatures had simply vanished from existence.
Who could withstand such a thing?
Every orc who had seen the entire sequence was frozen in place.
Even after the undead army withdrew, Wo Biao still had not recovered from the shock. If that thing had landed on him, he would have been finished as well. His speed might have allowed him to escape the center of the explosion, but he would probably have been left with only half a life.
Wo Biao was not even certain that he could survive such an attack. But one thing was certain: if he had encountered that metal object without first seeing its power, he would have had no chance of survival.
The orcs in the back, who had missed the scene, were still jumping. Those in the front who had witnessed it had fallen utterly silent. Some of the cleverer ones even piled up mounds of earth so they could see a rough approximation of the image.
Even so, their jaws nearly hit the ground.
Yang Dianfeng was trembling with excitement. In the past, when he had spoken with Shen Yi, he had learned that the human race and the insect race were supposedly evenly matched.
But at this moment, he felt that the insect race could never possibly stand shoulder to shoulder with humanity. This had already exceeded the limits of his understanding.
“Could it be that the Commander has been deceiving me all along?” Yang Dianfeng thought.
At that moment, Shen Yi’s voice came through the phone.
“Honorable Beast Emperor, I believe there must be some kind of misunderstanding between us. Don’t you agree?”
Hearing the Commander’s words, Wo Biao hurriedly replied.
“Yes, yes, yes! Misunderstanding, misunderstanding! Absolutely a misunderstanding!”
