Chapter Seven: Underlying Currents Surge
The wolf-headed man rose from the ground, twisting his neck as he looked at the metallic egg lying there. The metal egg had fallen and extended eight metallic claws, beginning to scratch at the earth. It dug a small hole just big enough to crawl into, then carefully used its slender claws to smooth the dirt over the entrance, restoring the ground to its original flatness in no time.
“Did he leave the child behind?” one of the wolf-headed men exclaimed in shock.
Another snarled, “That brat sure knows how to hide. Just wait—I’ll tear you out and snap your claws off.”
As the wolf-headed man lunged forward, a spider mine suddenly burst from the ground, flying straight at him. The speed was too fast for him to react; the mine struck him with a thunderous explosion. One wolf-headed man was blown to pieces instantly. Another nearby was hurled far away, crashing to the ground, bleeding from seven orifices—clearly killed by the blast as well.
The vulture war chariot charged out of the city. When they encountered more orcs, they lobbed grenades, blowing a gap and speeding through. Fortunately, luck was on their side; they avoided the fiercest orcs. Despite the dangers, they managed to break out of the city.
With the orc army pouring in, a bloody massacre unfolded. Orcs, gifted with keen noses, hunted down anyone trying to hide. None were spared.
Shen Yi sat in the command hall, gazing at the hellish scene in Peace City, his heart burning with anger. As a fellow human, he could not allow such atrocities to continue, yet he was powerless to intervene. With barely over a hundred soldiers, how could they stand against thousands? It was suicide.
The fall of Peace City spread like a whirlwind throughout the Holy Dragon Empire. The orcs had thrown their entire clan’s strength into the assault, smashing through with unstoppable force. In just a few days, they captured Peace City. On the day the city fell, not a single human was left alive inside. The cruelty was beyond imagining.
When Wang Sheng awoke, he looked around in confusion. “I’m not dead,” he whispered. He noticed the artificial soldier before him operating some glowing equipment. It was clear the commander had saved him.
“Sir, you’re awake. You were extremely weak, so I gave you a nutrient drip. How do you feel now?” the soldier said without turning around.
Wang Sheng was puzzled by the term “sir,” but assumed it was a respectful address and didn’t question it. “Thank you for saving my life; I have no way to repay you,” he said. Before he could finish, the soldier interrupted, “Commander Shen’s head aches a bit. You don’t need to repay anything—what else do you want to do, huh?”
“Where are you headed, sir? I can escort you. Of course, if you have any minerals or rare metals, you can send some my way as repayment,” the soldier quickly added.
“If the commander needs it, I will gladly help. May I ask what kind of minerals? I need to prepare,” Wang Sheng said, pointing in a direction. In his mind, he thought, “Alchemy demands vast financial resources to support research, especially the more obscure branchI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
