Chapter 2: Did He Bite You?
Observing Chunzhi’s expectant expression, Jiang Ning waved her hand, looking reluctant. "Let him in."
Chunzhi covered her mouth to stifle a giggle and hurried toward the door. "Vice Minister Fu, the Grand Princess says you may enter."
Hearing the heavy footsteps at the threshold, Jiang Ning nervously bit her lip. Thinking she was being thoughtful, Chunzhi closed the door behind her as she left.
As the footsteps drew near, Jiang Ning found herself looking at an incredibly handsome face. The man had cold, sharp features and narrow eyes, resembling a high-mountain flower that could only be admired from afar—chilly and untouchable.
In the book, the Grand Princess had been instantly smitten by Fu Shi’s stunning appearance. To possess him, she had gone so far as to force the Emperor to issue a decree making him her consort. Because Fu Shi was of low status and merely an adopted son of the Fu family, this act of forced acquisition had proceeded quite smoothly.
Just as Jiang Ning stood dazed, Fu Shi, who was standing to the side, suddenly leaned in. "What is the Grand Princess thinking about?"
Meeting his piercing gaze, Jiang Ning couldn't help but shiver. No matter how beguiling his exterior was, it could not hide his ruthless nature. If she remembered the plot correctly, it was Fu Shi who had been slowly poisoning the Grand Princess all along.
Noticing the fear in her eyes, Fu Shi frowned. "Why is the Grand Princess not speaking?"
Perhaps because a cold draft had entered the room, Jiang Ning’s teeth chattered slightly, and she could not help but sneeze. "Achoo."
As she did, the fine red silk draped over her shoulders slid away. The marks on the young woman’s skin, illuminated by the candlelight, were strikingly conspicuous. Seeing her exposed skin, Fu Shi’s gaze darkened. "Did Pei Heng bite you?"
Hearing this, Jiang Ning’s pale cheeks flushed, and she hurriedly pulled her clothes together in shame and anger. "What does that have to do with you?"
Looking at her glistening lips, Fu Shi felt an inexplicable heat rising within him. It was strange; why did he find this annoying woman, for a brief moment, so... alluring?
After a moment of silence, Fu Shi picked up the medicine bowl and walked over to Jiang Ning. "It is time for your medicine. Let me feed you."
Jiang Ning lowered her long lashes, her delicate face filled with refusal. "I won't drink it. Take it away!"
Fu Shi let out a soft click of his tongue. He crouched down and coaxed her with forced patience. "Be good, don't throw a tantrum. If you don't drink your medicine, your head will ache again later."
Looking at the pitch-black decoction, Jiang Ning turned her head away, waved her hand, and put on her haughty princess persona. "I said, I will not drink it!"
Fu Shi sighed and gently took hold of Jiang Ning’s hand. Perhaps it was because they were so close, but the fragrance clinging to the young woman seemed even more intoxicating. Fu Shi narrowed his eyes, staring at her porcelain-white neck. "I spent several hours brewing this medicine myself. The Grand Princess should at least have a few sips."
If it weren't for the fact that Jiang Ning seemed a bit more pleasing to the eye today, he wouldn't have been so patient in coaxing her. In the past, hadn't it always been Jiang Ning who yielded to him?
To Jiang Ning, Fu Shi’s voice sounded like a death knell. She curled her lip in impatience and knocked the bowl away. "Are you deaf? I told you, I won't drink it!"
After saying this, Jiang Ning’s exquisite features flushed slightly pink. "Get out of my sight!"
Don't think she didn't know that something had been added to this medicine; if she drank it, her headaches would only worsen.
Listening to the young woman’s feeble roar, Fu Shi let out a cold laugh. As expected, Jiang Ning was still as wicked and arrogant as before. He had actually thought, just a moment ago, that this woman had changed.
With that thought, Fu Shi’s expression shifted, and he stood up. "Since the Grand Princess does not wish to drink the medicine, I shall take my leave."
After dropping those words, the man walked away quickly. Watching his back, Jiang Ning clenched her fists nervously. What should she do? If she didn't get rid of these three men soon, they would be the ones to get rid of her. She had to find a way to cast these three devils out.
Deep in the night, heavy snow began to fall, blanketing the entire Grand Princess's estate in silver. In the study, the dim lamplight flickered incessantly. Looking at Fu Shi’s gloomy expression, Mu Chi raised an eyebrow and smiled. "What? Were you kicked out by the Grand Princess, too?"
