Chapter 49: The Showdown! Too Late for Regrets
Jiang Ruoxue could only watch helplessly as Lin Ziyu took Lu Fan away, while her father was kicked hard by Lin Ziyu and fainted after the blow.
“Dad!”
The Jiang family failed to bring Lu Fan back; instead, Jiang’s father was left with internal injuries.
The Jiang family was furious and directed all their anger at Jiang Ruoxue. Her mother’s face was cold and stern.
“Ruoxue, I’m not blaming you, but how could you turn your arm against your own family? Your brother is in such a state, and yet you conspired with outsiders to beat your father like this. You’ve truly disappointed me!”
“Mom, I’ve explained. Lu Fan’s health is very fragile. If Dad insists—”
No one in the Jiang family listened to her explanations. “You must be out of your mind. Lu Fan looks tall and strong, healthier than an ox. In five years, we’ve never seen him sick. He just gave Third Master Qin a few acupuncture treatments. How weak could he possibly be?”
“In my opinion, Lu Fan has climbed up with the Lin and Qin families and now looks down on us Jiang family.”
“Mom, that’s not true. Lu Fan isn’t that kind of person. Besides, he promised to save my brother. Give him three days to rest. I swear, he will come back in three days.”
Jiang’s mother raised her eyebrows sharply. “You want me to wait three days? I can wait, but your brother cannot. The doctor just injected him to help him sleep. Every second he’s awake is agony. Ruoxue, I don’t care what it takes—even if you have to tie him up—you must bring Lu Fan back!”
Jiang Ruoxue went to the Lin family. Lin Ziyu, still fuming, glared at her with fury the moment she saw her. “You dare come here again? Do you think it’s not enough that you almost killed him, and now you want to finish the job?”
Jiang Ruoxue looked worried. “What exactly happened to Lu Fan?”
“What else? Your so-called good deed. You forced him to stop while he was self-healing. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so weak. If he still had spiritual power, today he would have suffered a massive backlash, with his organs and meridians completely severed.”
Jiang Ruoxue shuddered in fear. “Miss Lin, I truly didn’t know the consequences would be so severe.”
“Ruoxue, it doesn’t matter whether you knew or not. Since you’ve already divorced, just end it here. You and Lu Fan are from different worlds. It’s better for him to leave the Jiang family’s leeching pit.”
Lin Ziyu crossed her legs elegantly. A handsome young man came over carrying a cup of brewed tea.
Jiang Ruoxue was a bit surprised. She had thought this stylish woman would prefer coffee, but it turned out she liked tea.
Lin Ziyu shed her usual playful arrogance. Her delicate face was serious, radiating an imposing aura that filled the room with intimidation.
“Miss Lin, you claim to be Lu Fan’s senior apprentice sister. I want to know—who exactly is he? Rescuing Third Master Qin wasn’t a coincidence; it was because only he could save him, right?”
Lin Ziyu smiled teasingly. “Looks like you’re not completely foolish. If he couldn’t save him, why would I have supported him so much? It’s a pity—a gem wasted in your Jiang family for five years. You treated him like a stone and didn’t cherish him. Now I’ve just picked up the prize.”
Jiang Ruoxue recalled how Lu Fan appeared at the Qin family’s door, and how she had looked upon him with disdain back then.
So, he really was prepared all along!
“Even if Third Master Qin’s illness wasn’t this one, but some other incurable disease, Lu Fan could have saved him, right?”
“You could say that. The junior apprentice brother’s medical skills have always been outstanding.”
“So the elixir given to my grandmother wasn’t from some expert—it was originally Lu Fan’s! Isn’t that right?”
Lin Ziyu toyed with her hair, and with each answer, Jiang Ruoxue’s face grew paler.
“Yes. Do you regret it now? The credit for saving Third Master Qin, the supreme rejuvenation pill, and Lu Fan were all supposed to belong to your Jiang family. But you didn’t hold on to them. Now, it’s too late to regret.”
