Chapter 11: Doduo Grows a Mustache!

Lin Jian Yue’s heart skipped a beat as she stole a glance at Ling Yun. Ling Yun cast a cold, sharp look, his eyes filled with an unmistakable warning. For a moment, the atmosphere in the living room grew strangely silent. Duo Duo lifted her chubby little hand and gently touched Lin Jian Yue’s belly.
“Mommy, is there a little baby inside?” Duo Duo tilted her soft, pale face upward, her big eyes brimming with curiosity.
Lin Jian Yue smiled awkwardly and nodded, “Yes… yes, there is!” After all, her daughter had been living in her belly all along; she wasn’t exactly lying, was she?
“Little sister, you have to be good, okay? Don’t kick Mommy.” Duo Duo gently stroked Lin Jian Yue’s belly, one touch after another. Back at the orphanage, an auntie had a baby who often kicked her so hard she ended up in the hospital. Duo Duo didn’t want Mommy to go to the hospital too, so she wanted to reason with her little sister and make sure she didn’t bully Mommy.
The little ghost, who had been quiet and subdued under Ling Yun’s piercing gaze, suddenly stirred again. She was centuries old—she could be this little ghost’s ancestor—yet the ghost had the audacity to call her sister!
“Baby, listen to your sister. Don’t cause trouble, or Daddy will be unhappy.” Lin Jian Yue gently rubbed her belly, calming the little ghost with a trembling heart. She dared not let what happened last night occur again.
At the sound of the word “Daddy,” the little ghost instantly quieted down. She knew the “Daddy” Lin Jian Yue mentioned was the thousand-year-old ghost king from last night who had nearly terrified her soul away. Outmatched by his strength, she chose to stay quietly like a quail.
Seeing the little ghost obedient, Ling Yun withdrew his gaze. Lin Jian Yue quietly exhaled in relief and rubbed her slightly swollen belly.
“My little sister is so obedient. When you come out, big sister will take you to play!”
“How does Duo Duo know it’s a little sister in the belly?” Now that her life was no longer in danger, Lin Jian Yue put on a smiling face and looked at Duo Duo with warmth.
Duo Duo looked up, her sparkling eyes blinking rapidly.
“I just know!”
“Maybe it’s a little brother?” Zhang Yang Fan, seeing Duo Duo’s adorable expression, couldn’t help but join in.
Duo Duo turned to him, shaking her little head like a rattle.
“It’s not a little brother, it’s a little sister. Little sisters are cute, and I like little sisters!”
“Duo Duo likes little sisters, so it must be a little sister!” Lin Jian Yue’s eyes curved into a tender smile, filled with affection.
“You must be hungry. Let’s go eat, okay?”
“Okay!” Duo Duo nodded obediently.
Lin Jian Yue reached out, picked her up, and placed her on the chair by the dining table.

However, Duo Duo was so short that even sitting, she wasn’t tall enough to reach the dining table.
“Hahaha, little shorty!” Zhang Yang Fan pointed at Duo Duo and laughed heartily. It wasn’t that he had a sharp tongue; it was just that Duo Duo’s appearance was too amusing!
“I’m not short—you’re the short one!” Duo Duo crossed her arms and puffed out her cheeks angrily. She hated being called short the most!
“Duo Duo’s not short. We’ll grow taller, even taller than big brother!” Lin Jian Yue lifted her and placed her on her lap. With her as a “cushion,” Duo Duo instantly grew taller.
Duo Duo’s big round eyes lit up, and she felt her view expand. It turned out that being taller meant seeing a different world! How magical!
Duo Duo cupped her face with both hands and excitedly shook her little head. She turned to Zhang Yang Fan and placed her little hand on his head.
“Big brother, I’m taller than you now!”
“Tch, I can also—” Zhang Yang Fan started to retort, but when he glanced at Ling Yun across the table, whose face was stern and unapproachable, he swallowed the rest of his words. Forget it. Ling Yun, the old ghost, was not someone to be trifled with; he certainly wouldn’t let the old ghost hold him.
Under Zhang Yang Fan’s watchful eyes, Ling Yun silently put the peeled egg into Duo Duo’s bowl.
Duo Duo let out a curious “Eh?” and looked at him.
Before she could speak, Ling Yun suddenly said, “I don’t like eggs!”
“Then Duo Duo will help Daddy eat it!” Duo Duo didn’t doubt his words. She picked up the egg and nibbled it in small bites, her little mouth swollen.
“Eggs are pretty tasty. Why doesn’t Daddy like them?” Duo Duo spoke with her mouth full, mumbling slightly.
Lin Jian Yue lifted a glass of milk and handed it to her.
“Eat slowly, and have some milk so you don’t choke.”
Duo Duo nodded and put the remaining half of the egg back into the bowl. She raised her chubby little hands, cupped the glass of milk with both hands, took a big sip, and swallowed the egg in her mouth. She loved drinking milk and refused to let go of the glass.
Only when the milk was almost gone did she finally put it down.
“Hahaha, little shorty has grown a white beard!” Zhang Yang Fan raised his hand, laughing as he pointed at Duo Duo’s cheek.

Duo Duo pouted and looked at him unhappily.
“I don’t have a beard!”
“You definitely have one!”
“I don’t have a beard!” Duo Duo crossed her arms and argued with Zhang Yang Fan.
Seeing Zhang Yang Fan laughing so hard he was doubled over, she became even more upset.
“You naughty big brother, I don’t like you anymore!”
“Duo Duo, don’t be mad. A beard looks good, like a cute little kitten.”
Duo Duo ignored him and turned her little head away.
Seeing she was truly angry, Zhang Yang Fan gently tugged at the little tuft of hair on her head.
“Little sister, don’t be mad anymore.”
“Hmph, I’m not talking to you!” Duo Duo raised her little hand and pulled her tuft of hair back.
That was the hairstyle Mommy had done for her; it couldn’t be messed up by naughty big brother.
Seeing Duo Duo ignore him, Zhang Yang Fan felt a hollow emptiness inside and couldn’t even laugh anymore. He glanced around and poured the milk from his own cup into Duo Duo’s cup.
Duo Duo caught the movement out of the corner of her eye, turned, and glared at him. “What are you doing?”
“I don’t like milk. You drink it for me.” Zhang Yang Fan, imitating Ling Yun, arrogantly lifted his little head.
Ling Yun furrowed his brows and glanced at him.
This brat dared to compete with him for attention!
Ling Yun looked at the milk, then at the slice of bread on his plate. As the ghost king, he never followed others; only others followed him.
He picked up a fork and placed a slice of bread into Duo Duo’s plate.
“Bread is good. Here you go!”
“My bread’s for you too!” Zhang Yang Fan was unwilling to be outdone and placed the slice of bread from his own plate into Duo Duo’s dish.
Duo Duo looked at the bread, then at Ling Yun and Zhang Yang Fan. Her eyebrows, like fuzzy caterpillars, knitted lightly in confusion. Why did it feel like Daddy and big brother were feeding a pig?
Lin Jian Yue also thought Duo Duo couldn’t eat so much but dared not say a word. These two “father and son” were both stronger than her.
Her eyes flickered, and she leaned close to Duo Duo’s ear, deliberately lowering her voice.
