Chapter 47: She Couldn't Understand Her Anymore
I wonder where that waiter took the little fool just now?
In just a blink of an eye, the little fool had vanished!
Elsewhere, the waiter led Duoduo into a private dining room.
Once Duoduo was comfortably seated, the waiter handed over the menu.
"Respected guest, due to my oversight, I caused you trouble. Our establishment has upgraded your room to a private one free of charge as compensation.
Here is our menu. Based on your party size, we suggest ordering a dessert."
"Thank you, big sister!"
Although Duoduo was young, she was sharp-witted.
The big sister before her had helped her out, otherwise, she would have been cornered by the grandma from earlier.
She thanked the waiter and then looked down at the menu.
There were pictures on the menu. Duoduo looked around, and her index finger landed on the mango sago pomelo.
"Big sister, I want to eat this."
"Certainly!"
The waiter bent down and placed a checkmark next to the mango sago pomelo.
Before she could straighten up, the rag doll in Duoduo's arms suddenly dropped onto the menu.
The rag doll's finger was pressing against the crispy roast pigeon.
Duoduo understood immediately, raised her little hand, and pointed at the crispy roast pigeon.
"Big sister, I want this one too."
"Respected guest, you are dining alone. The mango sago pomelo is enough."
"It's okay, I can finish it!" Duoduo tilted her little face up and smiled cheerfully at the waiter.
She wasn't alone, oh! Big Sister Ugly Ugly was keeping her company!
That roast pigeon was what Big Sister Ugly Ugly wanted to eat.
With that in thought, Duoduo set Ugly Ugly down.
Seeing her determination, the waiter didn't say much more and handed the payment scanner to Duoduo.
"A total of 59 credits. Please scan your watch here."
Duoduo extended her hand and tapped her watch against the scanner.
The credits were transferred. The waiter picked up the menu and left the private room.
In the eerie forest, April successfully obtained the extra ten credits.
She had originally thought the hell-level instance was not yet over.
However, when she stepped out of Door Number 3, she found that Door Number 1 had disappeared.
Why did the hell-level instance end so early?
Could it be that everyone inside the instance had died?
That was the only possibility April could think of.
Thinking that Duoduo was dead, the corners of her lips curled up, and her eyes overflowed with smiles.
So what if she had more credits? She still needed her life to spend them.
Though she earned them slower, she had a long life ahead!
After emerging from the eerie forest, April immediately upgraded from the large communal sleeping quarters to an eight-person room.
An eight-person room cost 5 credits per night. By clearing this instance, she had earned a total of 30 credits.
Adding the fact that the food she had eaten earlier was paid for using Dean Zhou's credits,
and deducting tonight's lodging, she still had a total of 34 credits left.
At this rate, she would soon be able to afford a double room!
"I wonder if Duoduo made it out safely?" Dean Zhou looked toward the direction of the wealthy district. "April, should we go look for Duoduo?"
"We can't even get in. There's no point in going. Dean Mom, I'm hungry. Let's go get something to eat first!"
The corners of April's mouth turned up as she smiled cheerfully at Dean Zhou.
She hadn't eaten for a whole day and night, and her stomach was already rumbling with hunger.
Hearing this, Dean Zhou also felt hungry and nodded slightly.
"Very well, let's go eat then!"
The two randomly found a shop by the roadside.
Dean Zhou didn't have many credits. After hesitating for a long time, she ordered a bowl of noodles, which cost 5 credits.
The noodles were quickly served and placed before her.
Dean Zhou picked up her chopsticks, just about to eat, when she noticed April staring eagerly at her.
"April, aren't you hungry? Why didn't you order anything?"
"My appetite isn't big. Ordering a whole portion and not finishing it would be too wasteful. Dean Mom, you eat first!
We can do what we did before—if you can't finish, you can give the rest to me."
April stared at her, drool practically dripping into the bowl.
Dean Zhou frowned, a nameless feeling churning in her heart.
A bowl of noodles wasn't that much; how could anyone not finish it?
Before, she had only ordered an extra portion for April because she saw April didn't have enough credits.
She hadn't expected April to still be counting on her to foot the bill.
Staring at April, Dean Zhou suddenly thought of Duoduo.
They were both children she had watched grow up, yet Duoduo was so much more innocent than April.
It was only because she hadn't seen through April's petty thoughts before that she had been fooled by a few words.
She had even wanted April to replace Duoduo as the adopted daughter of that young couple.
It was her fault for failing to raise April properly; she had wronged April, and she had wronged Duoduo!
Dean Zhou sighed and buried her head in her noodles.
Unwilling to continue spoiling her, she finished the noodles in one breath.
Seeing that only plain noodles were left in the bowl, April was dumbfounded.
Dean Zhou wiped her mouth and said indifferently, "I'm full. If you're not hungry, let's go!"
With that, Dean Zhou stood up and walked outside.
Frowning, April picked up the bowl and drank the remaining soup.
Hearing the movement behind her, Dean Zhou paused her steps and turned around.
Seeing what April had done, she frowned and secretly clenched her teeth.
How had she raised this child to turn out like this?
April finished the noodle soup and let out a satisfied burp.
Turning her head, she met Dean Zhou's probing gaze.
She froze for a moment, but quickly recovered, smiling brightly as she ran forward and took Dean Zhou's hand.
"It's a waste not to drink the soup. Dean Mom, I helped you finish all the soup. Aren't I amazing?"
Dean Zhou forced a tight smile.
She suddenly realized she was beginning to understand April.
Clearly, April had just earned 30 credits and now had more credits than she did, so why did April still act so stingy?
Was April truly being harsh on herself, or was she gambling—gambling that Dean Zhou couldn't bear to see her suffer?
"I want to go check on Duoduo. You go back first!"
Dropping those words, Dean Zhou turned and walked away.
Watching her retreating back, April sneered disdainfully.
"Duoduo is already dead; you won't see her even if you go!"
In the dim sum restaurant.
Duoduo finished her mango sago pomelo and patted her round belly.
Of the half crispy roast pigeon before her, only bones remained.
Seeing that the milk tea hanging on Ugly Ugly was also empty, Duoduo removed the plastic bag.
"Big sister, are you full?"
"Hmph, barely passable," Ugly Ugly said haughtily.
Duoduo automatically translated her words into being full.
"I'm full too." Duoduo yawned.
Once she was full, she felt sleepy!
Duoduo hopped down from the chair, hugged Ugly Ugly, and walked outside.
The woman was currently having the waiter pack up leftovers when she saw Duoduo walking out of the private room, and immediately rushed forward.
"Aha! You little brat, you've finally decided to show your face!"
"Customer, do you need this packed to go?"
The waiter stepped forward, blocking the woman's path.
The woman frowned and gave her a shove.
"Get lost, don't block my way!"
The waiter had a slender build and was pushed back two steps.
Seeing this, the male waiter quickly stepped forward to steady her.
The female waiter exchanged a glance with him, and the male waiter immediately understood.
He took a stride forward and grabbed the woman's wrist.
