Chapter 34: The Myriad Burial Art? Calling in a Debt!

Just as Ye Changsheng was basking in triumph, Wan Jianyi’s gaze remained fixed on him.
Coming back to himself, Ye Changsheng looked at Wan Jianyi and gave an awkward smile. “Big Brother, why are you staring at me?”
“Did your cultivation break through?”
Wan Jianyi wasted no time and got straight to the point.
“Mm-hmm.”
Ye Changsheng did not bother to hide it. Given Wan Jianyi’s strength—he could easily subdue a Heavenly Spirit Realm expert—seeing through Ye Changsheng’s cultivation was hardly difficult.
“What’s going on with you? Of all times to improve, you had to break through right after burying someone and seeing them off?”
“Are you hiding something from me?”
Wan Jianyi leaned closer, staring intently at Ye Changsheng.
“Er…”
Ye Changsheng’s mind raced, and he soon came up with an explanation.
“Big Brother, I originally didn’t want to tell anyone, but you found out anyway…”
Wan Jianyi patted him on the shoulder and chuckled. “Why are you treating me like an outsider? I’m your big brother. Am I just anyone?”
“Brother, the truth is, I cultivated a certain technique. After conducting a burial, I can grow stronger and seize the methods of others.”
He had no choice but to explain it this way. There was no way he could tell Wan Jianyi that all of this came from a system, was there?
Wan Jianyi teased him with a grin. “You didn’t secretly learn some sinister technique, did you? Otherwise, how could it have such an effect?”
“Brother, listen to yourself. Do I look like that kind of person?”
Wan Jianyi actually gave him a careful look and thought, “There’s not the slightest trace of demonic corruption or deathly aura on him. Instead, his vitality is abundant, and he radiates righteousness. It seems I really did misunderstand…”
“Brother, are you done looking? Do I look like a demonic cultivator?” Ye Changsheng asked with a smile.
Wan Jianyi chuckled. “No, no. I must have been mistaken. But what kind of technique is this? I’ve lived for so many years and never heard of anything so miraculous.”
“What is it called…”
“The Myriad Burial Art! Burying the heavens, burying the earth, burying all living beings.”
There was no such technique at all, so Ye Changsheng could only make one up on the spot.
Wan Jianyi did not think much of it. He nodded slightly. “This move is called the Myriad Burial Art? No wonder it’s so powerful. Even the name is imposing.”
“By the way, who taught you this technique?” Wan Jianyi pressed.
“When I was sleepwalking, I fell off a cliff. I survived by sheer luck and found it there.”
Ye Changsheng could only say this. After all, that was how the protagonists in novels always obtained peerless techniques.
Wan Jianyi chuckled. “Looks like you’re quite lucky, little brother!”
“I suppose so.” Ye Changsheng let out a bitter laugh.
“No good. I’ve been holding it in for ages. I need to find somewhere to relieve myself.”
“Same here,” Ye Changsheng agreed.

Seeing this, Su Qinqin gave an awkward smile and tactfully walked off to one side.
Once Su Qinqin had turned away, the two men stood shoulder to shoulder and pulled down their trousers.
“Little brother, why don’t we see who can piss farther?”
“We can give it a try.”
When the sound of splashing finally ceased, Wan Jianyi sighed. “I’m old now. I can’t do it anymore. Back then, I could piss from here all the way to that mountaintop.”
“Indeed. The future belongs to you young people. I really am getting old.”
Using his urine as ink, Ye Changsheng wrote several characters on the grave of the Corpse-Controlling Elder.
“Little brother, what did you write on the ground?” Wan Jianyi asked curiously.
“Ye Changsheng was here.”
At that, Wan Jianyi burst into laughter. “That really is just like you, little brother!”
“All right, enough. It’s about time we left.”
With that, the three of them turned and departed.
…
Deep underground, the Corpse-Controlling Elder lay inside a stone coffin, feeling utterly miserable.
In truth, he was not dead at all. He had merely feigned death and tricked the system’s judgment.
“You little bastard, I’ll damn well—”
“How dare you treat me like this! Once I get out, I’ll butcher you!”
As for getting out, the Corpse-Controlling Elder was merely shouting empty threats. He was bound from head to toe; anyone unaware of the circumstances would have thought a mummy had been buried underground.
Besides, even if he somehow broke free of his restraints, there were still seals placed upon the stone coffin outside. With his strength, he had no chance whatsoever of escaping this place.
Suddenly, a drop of water fell onto the Corpse-Controlling Elder’s face.
He opened his eyes abruptly, his expression filled with astonishment.
“Heaven never completely cuts off a person’s path! There’s actually water here!”
The Corpse-Controlling Elder knew that every additional drop of water he drank would give him a little more hope of survival.
He did not dare hesitate for even a moment. Leaning forward, he opened his mouth and gulped down a large mouthful.
“Refreshing! Truly refreshing!”
The instant he swallowed the mysterious liquid, however, the Corpse-Controlling Elder realized something was wrong.
“What kind of water is this? Why does it smell so foul?”
“Oh, damn it—it’s urine!”
He hurriedly spat it out, cursing furiously all the while. “You little wretch! Damn you! How dare you piss on my head!”
“Once I get out, you’re dead!”

The three of them walked along the road. Wan Jianyi looked at Ye Changsheng in confusion and asked, “Little brother, the Corpse-Controlling Elder is most fond of using feigned death to escape. We’ve simply left like this. What if he gets out?”
“Brother, since you were able to subdue him once, you can do it a second time. Besides, even if he only pretended to be dead, he still won’t survive.”
“Oh? And how do you know that?”
“His lifespan has already run out. He’s destined to die…”
The moment the words left his mouth, thunder rolled overhead. The sound was like the roar of dragons.
In the next instant, a silver-white bolt of lightning tore across the sky, like a divine sword shooting straight toward the Corpse-Controlling Elder’s grave.
With a single strike, the grave exploded. The Corpse-Controlling Elder and his coffin were blasted apart together, filling the air with a cloud of blood mist.
The Corpse-Controlling Elder died on the spot!
Wan Jianyi was utterly astonished. He asked in confusion, “How did you know?”
“I calculated it.”
Wan Jianyi asked with a smile, “Aren’t you a funeral director? How do you know fortune-telling as well?”
Conducting funerals is my specialty. Fortune-telling is merely my hobby.”
He did not possess such profound powers that he could calculate the Corpse-Controlling Elder’s fate.
Ye Changsheng had learned the elder’s time of death from the system beforehand. Otherwise, how could he have felt safe letting that old monster go?
Wan Jianyi glanced back and smiled. “The might of this heavenly punishment is incredible. Even if the Corpse-Controlling Elder had ten lives, he still wouldn’t have survived.”
“Still, you did a splendid job with that funeral just now. When I die, you’d better give me an impressive send-off. It absolutely cannot be worse than anyone else’s,” Wan Jianyi said with utter seriousness.
Ye Changsheng chuckled. “Brother, what nonsense are you talking about? You’re so powerful. You won’t die. You’ll surely live for many years yet.”
Su Qinqin nodded and chimed in, “Big Brother, Changsheng is right. There’s a saying: good people die young, while calamities live for a thousand years…”
The moment she said this, both men turned to look at her.
“Qinqin, are you sure?” Ye Changsheng asked with a bitter smile.
Wan Jianyi teased her with a laugh. “Little Qinqin, then am I a good person or a calamity?”
Su Qinqin blushed, scratching her head with an embarrassed smile. “I think I may have said something wrong…”
“By the way, Brother, where are we going next?”
“I’m hungry. Let’s eat!”
“And after we eat?” Ye Changsheng pressed.
“To the Lijiang Sword Sect!”
Ye Changsheng had heard of the Lijiang Sword Sect. It was a first-rate sect in the Northern Region, with strength comparable to that of the Azure Cloud Sect.
“What are we going there for?”
“The usual. We settle accounts with them, then bury some people!”
