Chapter 8: Fusing Bones, Condensing the Pill!
Ye Changsheng raised a hand and brought it down upon Su Wancai’s head.
At that moment, Su Wancai could not move a single inch. His body convulsed violently as he screamed, “No! Please, no!”
“Too noisy.”
With a fierce grip, Ye Changsheng tore his head clean off.
With a heavy thud, the headless corpse crashed to the ground. Ye Changsheng tossed Su Wancai’s head onto the little mountain of heads.
Su Wancai thus became the final piece in this magnificent work of art.
Ye Changsheng turned to Su Yang and asked, “Have you any last wish?”
Su Yang shook his head. “None. Thank you, sir.”
Ye Changsheng smiled. “No need to thank me. I am helping you for reasons of my own.”
He said no more, and Su Yang did not ask further, only nodded.
“My mortal affairs are now settled. So this life ends here…”
“Then it is time to go on your way?” Ye Changsheng asked with a smile.
Su Yang smiled and nodded. “The time has come. There is nothing left in this world for me to cling to…”
Halfway through, he suddenly remembered something.
“Oh, right, sir. I still have one more gift for you, as repayment for your kindness.”
He raised a hand and struck fiercely at his own chest.
“What are you doing?”
As his hand fell, a golden bone flew swiftly out from within his body.
It hovered in midair, radiating a faint brilliance, while the surrounding space twisted and trembled violently.
Its surface rose and fell in majestic contours like mountains and rivers, as though coiled by dragons and crouched by tigers.
Its patterns were like ancient totems, deep and intricate, every line resembling the characters of some primordial script. Around it, stars glittered, spiritual energy converged, and countless beams of radiant light encircled it.
“This is a supreme bone?” Ye Changsheng said in surprise.
“Sir, you actually know of it?”
Ye Changsheng scratched his head and smiled. “A guess…”
“I see…”
Looking at the supreme bone, Su Yang let out a sigh. “This treasure was once a supreme relic of the ancient ages. It has truly gathered dust while in my possession.”
There was no falsehood in that. With Su Yang’s talent and the blessing of the supreme bone, he would surely have become a towering figure within a hundred years.
Yet fate played its cruel game. Before he could even leave Dongyang City, he met such a premature end.
“Though I am dying, the supreme bone must never sink into the earth with me. I wish to give it to you, sir!”
“This…” Ye Changsheng put on an air of difficulty.
Su Yang smiled and went on, “If you find it troublesome, then let us consider this a transaction between us.”
“A transaction? What sort of transaction?”
Su Yang pointed to Su Qinqin beside him. “This girl may be my personal maid, but over the years I have always regarded her as my own younger sister.”
“After my death, she will be alone in this world, with nowhere to depend upon. So I ask you, sir, please take good care of her for me…”
Ye Changsheng nodded. “Rest assured. This little girl will be safe with me.”
A drop of kindness must be repaid with a fountain.
Since he had accepted another’s grace, Ye Changsheng could hardly refuse.
“My business here is done. It is time for me to go.”
As his words faded, Su Yang’s body gradually turned transparent, swiftly dissolving into drifting motes of dust that scattered on the wind.
Ye Changsheng clasped his hands and bowed deeply to Su Yang.
“May you travel well.”
Su Yang said nothing, only smiled.
With that final smile, he vanished completely from this world.
[Soul burial complete...]
[Su Yang burial mission completed!]
[Rewards being issued...]
[Congratulations, host, you have obtained the supreme bone!]
Buzz, buzz, buzz!
As the system’s voice rang out, the supreme bone hovering in midair began to tremble violently, emitting wave after wave of humming resonance.
At that moment, space was torn open. One hideous crack after another spread madly outward, until the entire sky was covered.
Su Qinqin stood in place, staring at the supreme bone, scratching her head as she murmured, “Is that the bone the young master once spoke of?”
“My head feels so dizzy...”
Her vision went black, her body went limp, and she collapsed to the ground.
“Qinqin?”
Ye Changsheng hurried forward. Only when he confirmed she was unharmed did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
In the next instant, a brilliant flare burst forth around the supreme bone and shot straight toward Ye Changsheng.
Before he could even react, the supreme bone tore through the air and plunged into his body.
“Ah!”
As the bone entered him, a sheen of light spread across Ye Changsheng’s body. Ancient patterns lit up one after another, rapidly covering him from head to toe.
At that moment, the power of the supreme bone erupted, and Ye Changsheng’s battle prowess soared to an entirely new level.
A vast tide of spiritual energy surged into his body like a great river, raging through his limbs and bones.
Streams of radiance converged all around, condensing within his spiritual sea into a sphere of light.
The sphere dispersed, and the spirit pill was formed!
Unlike ordinary spirit pills, the one within Ye Changsheng was covered in ancient patterns, densely interwoven, making it seem like something wrought by the heavens themselves.
[Congratulations, host, for breaking through to the Spirit Pill Realm!]
“So quickly a pill is formed? As expected of the supreme bone. It really is something.”
Ye Changsheng looked down at his own body and gave a faint smile.
When all was over, Ye Changsheng landed on the ground and slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was Su Qinqin sitting nearby, eating a roasted sweet potato by herself.
“Sir, are you finished?”
“Yes.”
Su Qinqin handed him a sweet potato and asked, “Want one? They taste really good.”
“How could I refuse your kindness?”
Ye Changsheng sat down beside her, took the sweet potato, and ate heartily.
“You’re quite skilled. Why be a maid at all?”
“The young master used to love eating them, so I specially learned from the old man who sold sweet potatoes in the city.”
Su Qinqin looked toward Su Yang’s grave, tears glimmering in her eyes.
She pulled a sweet potato from the fire and placed it before the tombstone.
“Young master, this one’s big! I saved it for you, Qinqin did.”
She stared at the gravestone with a foolish little grin.
It was fortunate that Su Yang’s soul had already departed, or else seeing Su Qinqin like this, he might never have been able to let go of the mortal world.
“By the way, what do you plan to do after this?” Ye Changsheng asked, curious.
“I don’t know...”
Su Qinqin shook her head.
“Why not come with me?” Ye Changsheng said with a smile.
“Where would I go with you?”
“Wherever the road leads. In the future, when I send people off, you can come along and help out.”
“Fine! I’m tired of staying in Dongyang City. I’ve long wanted to see the world beyond.”
Ye Changsheng said nothing, only rose slowly, slung his pack over his back, and walked off toward the distance.
“Sir, wait for me!”
Su Qinqin followed close behind him like a curious child, asking one question after another.
“Sir, why are you willing to take me with you?”
“At someone’s request.”
“Who? Was it our young master, Su Yang?”
“Some things are not meant to be spoken.”
Su Qinqin hurried closer, tugging insistently at Ye Changsheng’s arm.
“Was it, then? Sir, tell me!”
“You already know the answer in your heart.”
