Chapter Four: She Lacked Nothing—Except for an Overabundance of Wealth
Jiang Ke’s words made Jiang Xian roll her eyes so hard they almost flew out of her head. "Are you out of your mind? The contract I signed is for this exact variety show, and it was the production crew's car that picked me up."
Hearing this, everyone instinctively turned to look at the crew.
Listening to the guests' conversation, Su Yu, the staff member who had opened the door for Jiang Xian, finally realized she had made a mistake—and a massive one at that.
She hurriedly pulled out her phone to check her messages. As she read, her face instantly drained of color, turning stark white. Even her fingers trembled as she tapped the screen.
She was doomed. She had mixed up the contracts the other day, signing Jiang Xian—who was supposed to go to *Extreme Escape*—to *Filthy Rich* instead.
No wonder she had been wondering last night why the company had sent two separate cars to pick people up, thinking it was to avoid gossip. It turned out they weren't even attending the same show.
How could anyone screw up this badly at work? She was absolutely finished!
Pushing aside all other thoughts, Su Yu hurried over to the assistant director in charge of *Filthy Rich*. "What do I do, Assistant Director? I messed up the contracts."
The assistant director handed his phone to Su Yu. "Explain it to the director yourself."
With her heart hammering against her ribs, she took the trembling phone. Before the voice on the other end could speak, Su Yu blurted out an apology, "Director, I am so sorry. My mind was in a haze the other day, and I got the contracts mixed up."
"Is your name Su Yu? The intern who joined last month?"
The director's tone was unreadable, but the fact that he already knew her details meant he had looked her up. Su Yu knew she was truly done for.
"Yes, Director, I..."
Before she could finish, the director cut her off. Unlike his previous flat tone, his voice now carried a hint of excitement. "You did a fantastic job! I'm giving you a perfect score on your internship evaluation, no matter what."
This blunder had turned out to be a stroke of genius. No one expected Jiang Xian's appearance on this show to generate such massive buzz.
The live stream for *Extreme Escape* currently had only a few thousand viewers, while *Filthy Rich* had already surpassed a hundred thousand.
Flabbergasted to be praised instead of scolded, Su Yu asked hesitantly, "Really?"
"Of course it's true! You've done something absolutely incredible!"
As a mere intern, she had already felt highly valued when she was tasked with coordinating with the guests. Now, the director's praise left her ecstatic.
Even though the director couldn't see her, Su Yu bowed deeply. "Thank you, Director! I will work even harder!"
She handed the phone back to Yang Feng, who listened to a few more instructions before responding with a final acknowledgment.
"Director Yang, Jiang Xian isn't supposed to be on our show!" Seeing that Jiang Xian had no intention of leaving and the crew remained silent, Li Jiale called out directly to the director, hoping to use his authority to kick Jiang Xian out.
She had no desire to see Jiang Xian use this variety show to make a comeback.
Having just received his orders, Yang Feng responded calmly to Li Jiale's protest, "The contract she signed is indeed for this show."
With the director's word, the matter was settled. Still, unable to swallow her anger, Li Jiale sneered at Jiang Xian, "Jiang Xian, let me remind you, this show isn't for making money. It's for spending money. When the time comes and you can't produce a single cent, try not to embarrass yourself too badly."
The mere thought of Jiang Xian being broke and possibly begging them for help filled her with gleeful anticipation.
"You needn't worry about that," Jiang Xian replied smoothly. "If there's one thing I have in abundance, it's money."
She secretly rejoiced that she had ended up on *Filthy Rich* instead of *Extreme Escape*. It was a blessing in disguise.
Had the Jiang Xian of the past said this, it would have been highly believable. But now, everyone knew she was no longer the heiress of the Jiang family. Without that status, she could barely survive in the entertainment industry. Where did she get the nerve to boast so grandly?
The viewers in the live stream were instantly riled up by Jiang Xian's arrogant boast, eagerly anticipating the moment she made a fool of herself.
[I've grabbed a front-row seat, just waiting to see the look on Jiang Xian's face when she runs out of money.]
[For some reason, she actually looks wealthy. She really pulls off that high-society vibe.]
[Are you out of your mind, upstairs? You actually believe her? I bet she'll end up begging every single guest on set to sponsor her.]
[Honestly, just imagining that scene cracks me up. I screen-recorded her boast just now. If she really begs the other guests later, I'm definitely editing it into a meme video.]
Seeing Jiang Xian so confident, Li Jiale lost some of her certainty. She turned to Jiang Ke and whispered suspiciously, "Jiang Ke, your family didn't give her any money, did they?"
Jiang Ke shook her head. When she had returned to the Jiang family, they had only given her twenty yuan. How could they possibly give any to Jiang Xian?
"Good."
Watching Jiang Xian's confident display, Jiang Ke clenched her fists in secret. She would make her regret this. Participating in this show would turn out to be far more terrifying than *Extreme Escape*.
"Jiang Xian, my man, you're awesome! When I heard you were going on *Extreme Escape*, I was sweating bullets for you. Who knew you were holding back such a trump card!"
Zheng Jin had originally thought participating in this show would be boring. If his old man hadn't heard that Rong Fan was attending and insisted he network with him, he wouldn't have bothered coming at all.
But now, with a beauty like Sheng Ya here and his good buddy Jiang Xian around, it wasn't half bad.
Jiang Xian didn't bother correcting him.
Seeing her silence, Zheng Jin assumed she was worrying about the boast she had just made. He slapped her shoulder and said generously, "Don't worry. With me here, I won't let you lose face. After all, I'm the heir to the Zheng Corporation. Worst case scenario, I'll just pay for you."
If there was one thing he loved, it was spending money on beautiful women—especially when that beauty was also his good buddy.
Hearing this, Jiang Xian finally turned her gaze to Zheng Jin beside her. It had to be said that Zheng Jin was very handsome, dressed in typical playboy fashion, but his words made him sound like the foolish son of a wealthy landlord.
As another business van pulled up, the final guest, Rong Fan, arrived.
The van door slid open, and the first thing to catch everyone's eye was a pair of long, slender legs clad in tailored suit trousers. His handsome face, coupled with a faint, subtle smile at the corner of his lips, lent him a touch of devilish charm.
Instantly, the live stream chat exploded with exclamation marks, filled with swooning comments.
[Oh my god, Rong Fan is incredibly handsome! He is literally my dream guy. So elegant, so rich—I declare myself his fan from this moment on!]
[What should I do? I'm so conflicted! I want Rong Fan, I want Zheng Jin, I want Lai Bingfu, and I even want the cool Sheng Ya!]
[No matter how many times I look, my favorite sister Jiang Ke is still the prettiest.]
Jiang Ke had seen photos of Rong Fan online, but seeing him in person still took her breath away. A man this handsome and high-quality—she was determined to win him over.
