Chapter 106: Handing You the Knife
The girl’s words were light, and Gu Ting froze as he listened. He was silent for four or five seconds before he finally asked, unsure, “You knew?”
Shen Qing nodded. “Mm. Nie Huan called this morning.”
Gu Ting met her eyes. There was less redness in them today; it looked as though she had slept well last night.
“So what are you planning to do next?”
The light in Shen Qing’s eyes dimmed, and she curved her lips into a smile, wicked and dangerously seductive.
“One comes, and I take down two.”
Gu Ting stared at that smile for a moment, then he laughed too, a pleased sound spilling from his throat. He leaned down slightly and whispered by Shen Qing’s left ear, “Then I’ll hand you the knife.”
His voice was coaxing, low and irresistibly alluring. Instantly, yesterday’s vision of that fine waist flashed through Shen Qing’s mind again...
Damn it.
Her brows turned cold, and she shot the man beside her a glare before getting up to change Erniu’s dog food.
Her moods shifted wildly, and for no reason anyone could see, but Gu Ting was in an excellent mood. He lifted a hand to cover his face, yet the corners of his mouth still kept rising.
Now that was more like a little girl.
In the capital, at Specter Bar, the door to a luxury private room opened from outside, and several sultry women in revealing clothes came in.
Chen Lu lowered his eyes and glanced at the girl beside him. She sat properly, her back straight, with very little makeup on her face. Her innocence seemed out of place in such a noisy setting.
“Min’er, are you not used to it here?” Chen Lu asked gently, reaching out to rest a hand lightly on her shoulder.
The sudden contact made Yu Min’er stiffen. She glanced at the hand on her shoulder, her brows knitting briefly before she quickly composed herself.
“It’s all right.” Her voice was soft and small, the kind that inspired pity at once.
Chen Lu drew her a little closer and comforted her in a tender voice. “It’s fine. I’m here. Don’t be afraid.”
A flicker of disgust passed through Yu Min’er’s eyes. By the time she looked up again, she was already wearing a pitiful, fragile expression.
“Thank you, Brother Chen. But I want to go to the restroom.”
Chen Lu paused. The way she called him “Brother Chen” made his heart seem to float away. His mind went a little unfocused, and he let go of her. “Go ahead.”
Yu Min’er lowered her head with a faint smile and turned to leave.
The soundproofing in Specter Bar was excellent, so the corridor outside was very quiet.
Yu Min’er took out her phone, opened the microblog app, and the very first trending topic was about Shen Qing’s school bullying scandal. The entire internet was already telling her to get out of the entertainment industry.
This account was one of Yu Min’er’s alternate identities. She liked the posts made by the few users who were cursing the hardest.
What right did Shen Qing have to even dream of entering the entertainment industry and competing with her, given her background? It was ridiculous.
Yu Min’er curled her lips just as her assistant, Zhou Ping, called.
“Hello? What is it?” Yu Min’er leaned against the wall and spoke in a lowered voice.
“Min’er, you need to stay away from anything about Shen Qing these next few days.”
Shen Qing had ties to the Yu family, and the manager had specifically warned her to keep a close eye on Yu Min’er and not let her get dragged into Shen Qing’s dirty waters.
Yu Min’er kept her eyes lowered. It took several seconds before she finally gave Zhou Ping a quiet yes.
“All right. Just remember that, okay?” Zhou Ping reminded her of a few other things before hanging up.
This time, the scandal around Shen Qing had come too suddenly. Starlight had not even had time to dig into it before the whole thing had already blown up. Someone must have been pulling strings behind the scenes. If this went on, Spring and Autumn Entertainment would be lucky not to lose a layer of skin.
Yu Min’er put away her phone and, thinking of Shen Qing’s miserable state, almost laughed out loud.
“Min’er, why are you standing outside?” Qin Zi’ao asked. His shirt was unbuttoned at the chest, three buttons undone, and a gorgeous woman was tucked in his arms.
Yu Min’er glanced at them once and quickly looked away. “I was taking a call out here.”
The woman in Qin Zi’ao’s arms narrowed her eyes at Yu Min’er and then smiled, her hands circling around Qin Zi’ao’s neck.
“Second Young Master Qin, is this your little sister? She’s really beautiful.”
Qin Zi’ao squinted and gave a faint hum without saying anything.
Yu Min’er shot the woman a quick look. She was dressed far too revealingly and clearly didn’t look like anything decent. Yu Min’er despised women who climbed into men’s beds, so naturally she gave her no friendly face.
“Cousin, I’m going in first.” Yu Min’er smiled at Qin Zi’ao and walked past them.
The woman leaned against Qin Zi’ao’s chest, tracing little circles with her finger as she said in a sweet, coaxing voice, “I heard there was a girl who got famous overnight a few days ago, and she seems to have some connection to your cousin.”
Qin Zi’ao pinched her hand. “Just a little trinket. Did she really think she was some sort of phoenix?”
The woman lowered her head and laughed softly, then pouted in feigned annoyance. “You’re awful.”
