Chapter 126: The Opening of the Racetrack
Outside, the sky gradually darkened. Shen Qing ordered takeout on his phone, then sat down on the sofa to play games while waiting for the food.
Within less than a minute of starting the game "War God," a call came through.
Shen Qing frowned and declined the call.
The caller was persistent and quickly called again.
"Lan Yifan, if you have something to say, don’t call me," Shen Qing snapped, using his full name.
Lan Yifan’s heart sank. This time, the usually affectionate lady had addressed him so formally.
"Hehe, please don’t be mad, Lady. I’m only calling because I have nothing else to do today," Lan Yifan said nervously.
Shen Qing paused for two seconds before slowly exhaling, "Get lost."
"Lady, today is the opening of my ranch, and you still sent me a gift."
Shen Qing had asked Lan Xinqiao to deliver the gift to him and was quite flattered.
"If you don’t want it, just sell it and give me the cash."
"That’s impossible! I mean, Lady, even if it were just a pile of... uh, grass, a gift from you is the best! This bracelet, I want to keep it for my wife, then pass it to my daughter, and then to my granddaughter..."
Shen Qing rubbed his temple. "Finished with the nonsense?"
"Yeah, I’m done..."
Before Lan Yifan could finish, Shen Qing hung up.
"Hey..." Lan Yifan was stunned. Lady’s temper was as impatient as ever.
---
"Young Master Lan." A young man in a neat suit approached to greet them, followed by a young, beautiful girl.
Lan Yifan looked up, glanced at them, and smiled politely. "Young Master Qin."
He then glanced at the girl beside Qin Ziao. "Young Master Qin, your taste has changed?"
Qin Ziao was usually surrounded by glamorous admirers, very different from the plain girl beside him.
Qin Ziao was momentarily taken aback, then laughed and explained, "Young Master Lan, you misunderstand. This is my cousin, Yu Min’er."
Yu Min’er said nothing at first, but when Qin Ziao mentioned her, she stepped forward with a smile. "Hello, Young Master Lan."
Lan Yifan glanced at Yu Min’er and thought she was rather ordinary-looking, a member of the Yu family from Fancheng.
"Oh, hello." Lan Yifan responded coolly—polite but distant.
Qin Ziao’s gaze fell on the bracelet on Lan Yifan’s hand—a finely crafted jade piece, exquisitely carved with a phoenix, lifelike and breathtaking.
"Young Master Lan, that bracelet is really something."
Lan Yifan gave Qin Ziao a sidelong glance, carefully put the bracelet away in a special box. "Yeah, you have good taste."
Qin Ziao’s eyes darkened slightly as he smiled and asked, "I wonder which master crafted it? I’d like to buy a set for Min’er."
"Ah?" Lan Yifan stopped mid-sentence, his expression stiffening.
He still wanted to buy something from his Lady to give to the Yu family?
"Sorry, that’s not possible. It’s not for sale—there’s only one in the world."
"Oh, I see." Qin Ziao’s face showed some embarrassment.
---
Lan Yifan gave him a cold glance. "Young Master Qin, I’ll go attend to the guests. Feel free to look around yourselves."
Qin Ziao nodded. Before Lan Yifan left, he glanced once more at Yu Min’er and let out a soft tut.
Yu Min’er watched Lan Yifan’s retreating figure, feeling a little dazed, sensing he wasn’t very fond of her.
"Cousin," Yu Min’er pinched her sleeve and looked up at Qin Ziao.
"Hmm? What is it?" Qin Ziao turned his head towards her.
Yu Min’er pressed her lips together, hesitated for several seconds, then asked, "Did I do badly today? I feel like Young Master Lan..."
"It’s nothing. It’s the opening of Young Master Lan’s ranch, there are lots of guests. Don’t take it to heart," Qin Ziao patted her back reassuringly, not paying it much mind.
The Lan family was large and influential, something their Qin family couldn’t match. For Lan Yifan to address him as Young Master Qin today was already a big gesture.
Yu Min’er nodded, lowered her gaze, and remained silent.
"Oh, I just saw Mo Yunzou, the eldest young master of the Mo family, is here too. I’ll take you over to say hello."
Mo Yunzou was the head of Star Entertainment, and Yu Min’er was one of its artists. Building a good relationship with Mo Yunzou would benefit both her and the Qin family.
"Okay." Yu Min’er nodded, her focus today clearly on Mo Yunzou.
