Chapter 136: Gong Yue

Zhong Yi talked a lot about his life here on the way—like which aunt served the most food and which professor had the best temper.
“Sis, how are you doing alone in Fancheng?”
“Not bad.”
“Oh, is Gu Ting still pestering you?” Zhong Yi looked up at Shen Qing. He had grown quite a bit and was now almost at Shen Qing’s ear level.
Shen Qing lowered her gaze, silent.
“Zhong Yi, you didn’t go to the lab today?” A young man with blond hair and blue eyes approached, speaking hesitant Mandarin. He paused briefly when he saw the girl beside Zhong Yi.
“I wasn’t feeling well, so I took a leave.” Zhong Yi’s situation was kept under wraps; few knew the machine had broken down.
“Oh, and who is this?” The young man’s eyes landed on Shen Qing, his admiration plain to see.
Shen Qing cast a faint glance at him but said nothing.
Zhong Yi frowned, displeased, and said, “She’s my sister.”
The young man smiled, sensing Zhong Yi’s unease, didn’t linger, and passed by Shen Qing before walking away.
“Sis, haven’t they seen you before?” Zhong Yi recalled Elder Qi mentioning that Shen Qing had been to the medical organization several times, each stay lasting about half a month.
“I never went out; Elder Qi brought me food.” Shen Qing answered truthfully. She only came when Elder Qi needed help and otherwise stayed in her room, never venturing outside.
Zhong Yi was taken aback, “Oh, that explains it.”

The cafeteria wasn’t crowded. Zhong Yi bought some food and picked a spot to set down his tray. “Sis, I’m going to get some water.”
“Mm.” Shen Qing nodded and began eating by herself.
“Hey, I want to switch seats with you. I always sit here to eat, is that okay?” A woman in a white lab coat approached Shen Qing and placed her tray on the table.
Shen Qing chewed slowly and swallowed before looking up at the woman. She looked young, in her twenties.
“I want to switch. You can eat at another table.” Gong Yue repeated when Shen Qing didn’t move.
“No.” Shen Qing lowered her head and continued eating.
“I’ll pay for this meal; you just leave.”
“Are you filming a movie? So dramatic.”
Gong Yue frowned. Young and already a member of the international medical organization, she was the pride of her family and wasn’t used to being treated this way.
“How can you be like this? It’s just a seat swap; it’s not like you’re losing anything.”
“Why don’t you switch then? Stop morally blackmailing others.” Zhong Yi arrived just in time to hear Gong Yue yelling at his sister.
Seeing Zhong Yi, Gong Yue’s eyes darkened. She had been the youngest member of the medical organization and hoped to become a disciple of Elder Qi. Zhong Yi’s presence shattered her age advantage.
“Listen carefully. This seat, my sister is letting you have it. That’s her kindness—she doesn’t quarrel like ordinary people. If you refuse, sorry, you won’t be welcome next time.” Zhong Yi placed the water he bought on the table, folded his arms, and stared at Gong Yue.

“Zhong Yi, this has nothing to do with you; don’t meddle.” Gong Yue glanced at Shen Qing. So this was Zhong Yi’s sister—dressed plainly, probably all the family’s money went to supporting Zhong Yi.
Zhong Yi smiled. “It concerns my sister. How can it not concern me?”
“I was going to let it go, but you’re not allowed to bring outsiders here.” Gong Yue hadn’t heard of Zhong Yi having a sister. No new people had come recently, so she assumed Shen Qing was a stranger.
Bringing outsiders in was against the organization’s rules.
Shen Qing finished her last bite. The cafeteria meals were a bit scant.
“Hurry up and eat; I want to go back and sleep.” Shen Qing said faintly to Zhong Yi.
“Oh, okay.” Zhong Yi ignored Gong Yue and sat across from Shen Qing to eat.
Gong Yue glared at them and pulled out her phone to make a report.
“Hello, yes, there is an outsider here. Please come quickly.”
Shen Qing glanced at Gong Yue, who had already hung up.
Gong Yue looked triumphant, thinking, A wild girl from the outskirts dares to confront me?
