Chapter 50: Going to My Office to Sleep? (Sixth Update)
The man approached at a measured pace, a DSLR camera dangling from his hand. Yu Jiaxuan recognized him immediately—he was the new physical education teacher, someone with a notable background.
“Shen Qing, just you wait—next time you won’t be so lucky!” Yu Jiaxuan snapped back to his senses, realizing he’d just been startled by Shen Qing. He tossed out his threat and fled in embarrassment.
Gu Ting looked over at Shen Qing. “Someone from the Yu family?”
Shen Qing said nothing, tacitly acknowledging it.
Seeing she was about to leave, Gu Ting hurried after her. “Want to sleep in my office?”
He’d noticed the redness in her eyes even before the opening ceremony began.
Shen Qing tilted her head, glancing at him. “No.”
Gu Ting took a big step forward, stopping in her path, a smile lingering in his gaze. He lowered his voice. “I just got a new recliner. There are snacks too. Won’t you reconsider?”
“Hm?” Shen Qing’s eyes brightened a little, and then she nodded slowly.
…
The office was small—once the recliner was set up, there was barely any space left.
Gu Ting switched on the air conditioner, adjusted the temperature, then noticed Shen Qing’s arm.
“Put your jacket on. It’s a small room, it’ll get cold fast.”
“Oh.” Shen Qing responded, took the jacket from around her waist and draped it over her shoulders, then lay down on the recliner.
“Here, use this stool for your legs.” Gu Ting glanced at her long legs, which had nowhere to go, and placed a stool beside her.
A moment later, he rummaged in his drawer and produced a bottle of drink, handing it to her. “Want this?”
“Thank you.” Shen Qing accepted it without hesitation and took a sip.
Gu Ting’s smile deepened as he watched her. When she finished, he took the bottle and set it on the desk.
“If you fall asleep, I’ll wake you when it’s time to eat.”
“Mm.” Shen Qing closed her eyes, the distant strains of music from the sports field faintly audible.
…
When Yu Jiaxuan returned to the stands, Yu Min’er was already seated beside Qin Lin, with several classmates around her taking photos.
“Mom, Sis.” Yu Jiaxuan dropped his head and greeted them weakly.
Qin Lin noticed something was off with her son and asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
He shook his head and handed the drink he’d bought to Yu Min’er. “It’s nothing—I just ran into an ingrate.”
Hearing this, Yu Min’er and Qin Lin had a rough idea of what had happened.
Qin Lin looked displeased and pulled him over for a closer inspection. “That wild girl didn’t lay a hand on you, did she?”
Last time, her son’s shoulder had been dislocated by that girl. Now they’d run into each other again; nothing good could come of it.
“No.” Yu Jiaxuan sat down dispiritedly, Shen Qing’s words still echoing in his mind.
Blood money?
Ha! And to think he’d actually been intimidated by such a bluff.
Yu Min’er walked over and gently patted his back, her voice soft and kind. “Don’t get worked up over Shen Qing. Next time you see her, just keep your distance. You know what sort of person she is.”
“Yeah, I know.”
Seeing her son’s spirits lift, Qin Lin put an arm around his shoulder. Her gaze drifted to the opposite stands, pausing briefly.
“Min’er, look—over there. Isn’t that Mrs. Lin?” Qin Lin nodded toward a stylishly dressed woman not far away, patting Yu Min’er’s hand.
Yu Min’er followed her gaze. “Yes, that’s Mrs. Lin. Mom, I’ll go say hello.”
“Go on.” Qin Lin nodded. Mrs. Lin was the wife of Lin Feng, mayor of Fancheng—a woman who kept a low profile and was rarely seen among the city’s socialites.
If Yu Min’er could build a connection with the Lin family and leverage Lin Feng’s influence, they could easily outshine the Liu family in Fancheng—perhaps even gain a foothold in the capital.
…
Yu Min’er threaded her way through the crowd to Mrs. Lin, who was accompanied by a young girl. Mrs. Lin hadn’t noticed her approach.
“Hello, Auntie. I’m Lin Ruiyang’s classmate,” Yu Min’er greeted her with a smile, adopting a respectful, junior’s posture.
Only then did Mrs. Lin look up and study her, pausing for a couple of seconds. “Oh! You’re that Yu… Yu something…”
Mrs. Lin had seen her online before—apparently, she was a young singer with quite a following.
“Yu Min’er.”
“Yes, Yu Min’er!” Mrs. Lin hadn’t expected to run into a celebrity during a visit to the school.
“You’re looking for Lin Ruiyang? He’s gone back to the classroom.”
Yu Min’er wasn’t surprised by this answer and replied politely, “I know. Thank you, Auntie.”
She was about to leave, but paused and turned back to Mrs. Lin.
“Is there something else, Miss Yu?”
“Auntie, I have a performance at Star Plaza during the National Day holiday. I hope you and Lin Ruiyang can come and watch.”
“I’ll be there, no problem. As for Ruiyang…” Mrs. Lin knew her son well—aside from studying, he had little interest in anything else.
“Don’t worry, Auntie—Ruiyang already promised me.”
That took Mrs. Lin by surprise. Lin Ruiyang had actually agreed—and to a girl, no less!
And she’d even called her son by his given name, Ruiyang!
With this realization, Mrs. Lin’s previously polite attitude became instantly enthusiastic.
“Don’t worry! Auntie will definitely come and cheer you on!”
