Chapter 60: The Highlight Moment—Lord Ting Sets a Flag!
“Aunt.”
The woman sat in her wheelchair, her temperament gentle, a smile lingering between her brows as she looked at Gu Ting. “You’re back.”
“Yes.” Gu Ting took a seat beside Gu Yunsheng.
Gu Yunsheng’s gaze lingered on him for a moment before she finally spoke. “I heard from Xiao Cheng that even your iron heart has finally blossomed?”
Gu Ting’s eyes darkened slightly, but he smiled. “Aunt, are you teasing me now?”
“You’re already twenty-three. Mingjing is on her second child, and you haven’t even introduced a girlfriend yet.”
“No rush, I know what I’m doing.” His affairs couldn’t be hurried.
“That girl—she’s from Fancheng?” Gu Yunsheng smiled, eyes narrowing mischievously.
“No, she’s from Jiang City.”
“Oh.” She lowered her eyes, pondering. She hadn’t heard of that place before.
“Then she must live in Fancheng. How old is she?”
Gu Ting lifted his gaze and met his aunt’s smiling eyes. “She’ll turn seventeen in July.”
“What?” Gu Yunsheng was momentarily stunned; her expression grew subtly complex as she stared at him.
She had assumed the girl would be between twenty-two and twenty-six. To think she was still a minor.
No wonder he said there was no rush… How could there be?
Gu Yunsheng averted her gaze and no longer looked at him. “Just mind yourself.”
Gu Ting smiled. “I will.”
“Tomorrow, Luo Ze is coming back with Mingjing; you’ll host them at home.”
“All right, but I’ll have to return to Fancheng in the evening.”
Thinking of the young girl, Gu Yunsheng shot him a half-chiding glance. “Fine, but remember your boundaries.”
**
Stepping out of the room, Gu Ting saw his cousin, Gu Mingyue, sitting on the sofa.
He patted the seat beside him. “Ting.”
Gu Ting glanced at him, then walked over and took a seat across from him.
“Is the smuggling case settled?” Gu Ting poured himself a glass of water.
Gu Mingyue raised his eyebrows, his tone light. “Yes. The Mo family pulled some strings, so they weren’t caught up in it, but several of their subsidiaries took a hit and lost quite a bit.”
“The Mo family isn’t short on money.”
“By the way, I just received a batch of contraband from Country M. It’s the half that was stolen from the Luo family a month ago.”
Gu Ting’s expression sharpened. “Dumped by Li Dog?”
Gu Mingyue shook his head. “Not him. An intermediary brought it. The price was double what it was before.”
“He’s good at business.”
Hearing Gu Ting’s tone, Gu Mingyue sensed something ominous.
Gu Ting gave a faint smile. “Send me the intermediary’s information. As for Li Dog, after swallowing so much of my goods, it’s time he coughed them up.”
Watching the sinister curve of Gu Ting’s lips, Gu Mingyue’s scalp tingled. “Are you still going to fight him?”
“If he doesn’t know when to quit, there’s no need to keep him around.” Gu Ting smiled, set down his glass, and headed upstairs.
Gu Mingyue could only sigh. His younger cousin wasn’t as reckless as the rumors claimed; in recent years, his company had benefited greatly from Gu Ting’s advice.
But behind Li Dog stood Tengu—and the legendary Long Aotian. For the Gu family to go against him was risky.
“Ting, you’re Uncle’s only son, so be careful!”
Gu Ting turned, gave a faint smile, and said nothing.
Back in his room, he opened his phone. There was only one new message from Gu Yunsheng on WeChat.
“The Minor Protection Law?”
Gu Ting glanced at the link and rubbed his brow, helpless.
Did she really think he was so heartless?
**
Shen Qing spent the entire afternoon at the police station, remotely assisting the Fengdu Public Security Bureau. It wasn’t until sunset that all danger was finally eliminated.
Captain Jiang accompanied Shen Qing to the entrance. Li Ye had wanted to come too, but Captain Long had dragged him off.
“Miss Shen, what brand is your phone?”
He wanted one himself—it could make calls, serve as self-defense, and, most importantly, Shen Qing’s internet speed while gaming was impressive.
Shen Qing shot him a glance, her tone icy. “You can’t afford it.”
…
A knockoff, and he couldn’t afford it?
Miss Shen’s dry humor was certainly something.
“Jiang!”
A voice called out from the opposite direction Shen Qing was heading.
Captain Jiang turned to look—it was an old acquaintance.
“Yu, what brings you here?”
“It’s my day off. I took my daughter out to play and happened to pass by. Are you on duty today?”
“Haha, yes.”
Yu Wenqiang watched Shen Qing’s departing figure, thinking she looked familiar. “That girl—her surname is Shen, isn’t it? Shen…”
“Shen Qing. You know her?” Captain Jiang was surprised. Had Miss Shen helped with a case for Yu Wenqiang’s precinct as well?
Yu Wenqiang’s eyes lit up. “Of course I know her. That Shen is a star at our branch.”
Captain Jiang grinned. “So Miss Shen is quite the heroine.”
“Huh? Heroine?” Yu Wenqiang was puzzled, then added, “Well, you could say that. After her, the troublemakers at No. 8 High have been a lot more obedient.”
“What? I don’t follow.” Captain Jiang realized they were talking about two entirely different things.
“Jiang, do you remember the fight at No. 8 High I mentioned in the group?”
“Yes, the one where one fought ten…” Captain Jiang trailed off, suddenly realizing something.
“She’s Shen Qing?”
Yu Wenqiang nodded.
Captain Jiang rubbed his head in disbelief. Good heavens!
No wonder Captain Long had mentioned a one-versus-ten earlier today—that’s what he meant.
