Chapter 136: Securing an Invincible Position
The Gu King is enraged!
Above the vast city, the sound of the Gu King sharpening its blade—a sound that had long vanished—echoed once more. This time, the noise was even more intense, as if an invisible deity had drawn a blade of fury, poised to slaughter all enemies. Everyone was terrified. Even the martial artists of the Nine Families and the Gu sorcerers, who had intended to attack Su Ye, chose to retreat. They were genuinely afraid.
"Get away! Su Ye has provoked the Gu King; he's a dead man!" cried Wu Bozhong, who had once witnessed the horror of the Gu King sharpening its blade. In Thunder City, these three days each month were considered the safest time, as no one dared to commit murder during this period.
"The boy is too impulsive! What a pity. When a person’s courage exceeds reason, it becomes recklessness. Even if he had a deep grudge, couldn't he have waited three days? To kill in public like this, sigh!" Wu Yan shook his head and sighed.
All the martial artists in Thunder City scattered immediately. Those from other families also retreated, fearing not only that Su Ye might go on a killing spree, but also the sudden, ominous sound of a blade being drawn from the heavens.
Everyone was paralyzed by fear, except for Su Ye, who showed no trace of trepidation. He clutched the dagger in his hand, his body and hands stained with blood. His gaze was icy as he scanned the martial artists of the Nine Families. They dared not meet his eyes, scrambling backward in panic. Jiu Yayue fell to the ground, pushing herself back with her hands, screaming, "Su Ye, you... you’ve killed someone. Don't come any closer..."
Su Ye looked at her indifferently and did not approach. Although he loathed her, it was not to the point of murder. He turned his gaze to the Miao family’s Gu sorcerers and barked, "Since he refuses to speak, it seems I must find the evidence from you instead!"
Miao Ba’s expression shifted drastically. "Su Ye, have you lost your mind? Do you still want to kill? The Gu King is about to strike you down! How dare you be so insolent!"
"Then I’ll take you down with me before I die!" Su Ye charged forward, dagger in hand. Things had not gone as he had expected; he had failed to force Master Xiao to reveal who had cast the poison, but that no longer mattered. He knew he had been ambushed by Miao family martial artists at the Gu River. Since it was the Miao family, these sorcerers here could not be innocent.
"How dare you—" Miao Ba roared, a flash of light appearing in his hand as he produced a unique horn-blade. Unlike ordinary weapons, this was made from a genuine bull’s horn, sharpened to a terrifying edge.
*Boom!*
At that moment, a thunderclap shattered the sky, and a powerful radiance illuminated all of Thunder City. Even the mists lingering in the city were violently dispersed, as if it were broad daylight.
*Clang!*
A piercing, shrill sound of a blade being unsheathed rang out from the heavens.
Su Ye’s heart trembled. He suddenly felt an eerie, oppressive force pinning him down. It felt like a weight of ten thousand tons; his legs shook, his shoulders sank, and he was nearly forced to his knees.
*Boom!*
"The Gu King’s Wrath!" This thought flashed through everyone’s mind, and the martial artists fled even further away. The Gu King’s punishment had arrived!
Jiang Liuying’s body trembled as she shouted, "Hide! Get inside the city towers!"
"Still trying to hide? No one has ever survived after killing during the three days of the Gu King’s blade-sharpening! Thunder City’s rules are not for you to break!" Wu Yan shouted, taking the opportunity to lecture the crowd.
Su Ye could not move at all, as if he were being judged. He had always assumed the "Gu King’s Wrath" was merely the work of lingering spirits, but this power far exceeded any malevolent entity. He looked up and saw a massive, ancient blade manifesting in the sky. It was ten meters long, glowing with a brilliant light like the weapon of a legendary god.
It descended in a single strike!
*Boom!*
An endless, blinding brilliance exploded above Su Ye’s head. The force of the blast created a massive sphere of light that swept outward. The martial artists standing nearby—Jiang Liuying, Gang Jin, and those from other families far away—were all sent flying.
The ears of every martial artist rang, their heads throbbing with pain, their vision blurred. This was only because their internal energy was abundant; had they been ordinary people, they would have been obliterated instantly.
Was this the Gu King’s Wrath? It was too terrifying! Such power would have crushed even a tank into dust. One must never provoke this wrath! Even if it were a grudge for one's father, one would have to endure it during these three days!
Five minutes passed before the martial artists began to recover. They looked toward the center, where the light of the Gu King’s Wrath was slowly fading. There, a slender figure was still standing!
"What? Su Ye... is that Su Ye? He’s not dead?"
"How is that possible? No one has ever survived a strike from the Gu King!"
Everyone stared in disbelief. The ground had been split by a long fissure from the attack, yet Su Ye stood firm. "Is he dead? Is that a corpse?"
Just then, Su Ye moved. His heart was in a state of shock. At the critical moment, an ancient character, "Flame," had appeared in his sea of consciousness, shattering the Gu King’s Wrath. He wasn't even injured!
"A mere Gu King cannot kill me, Su Ye!"
Su Ye roared, the lightning and fire on his body erupting once more. He took a step forward, a move that shook the earth and rattled everyone present.
"How is this possible? What kind of person is he? To be unscathed after the Gu King’s Wrath... such a thing has never happened in Thunder City!" Wu Yan’s weathered face was filled with profound shock. The boy before him was terrifying! If such a strike couldn't kill him, did that mean he was invincible?
"Su Ye, you... you cannot still be alive." Miao Ba and the other sorcerers were equally stunned. For them, the Gu King was a pillar of their faith. To see that faith fail to kill Su Ye was a devastating blow.
"Su Ye, why? Why are you so strong?" In the distance, Jiu Yayue watched, shaken. She had always worshipped the strength of Ye Lingyun, but now, she wavered. Did Su Ye possess the ability to rival him?
Among the martial artists, the Jiang family was the most overjoyed. Jiang Liuying choked back tears and shouted, "You idiot, why didn't you say you could withstand it? I was so scared that you’d die and they’d steal your belongings and kill us too!"
"They won't have that chance!"
Su Ye roared, his eyes burning with lightning and fire as he charged toward Miao Ba. Since he could withstand the Gu King’s Wrath, he was effectively invincible; only he could kill, while others dared not touch him.
"Su Ye, you still want to attack? Do you really think you're invincible?" Miao Ba was furious. He dared not kill Su Ye, but he could certainly break his legs.
Miao Quan also shouted, "Don't think you can be insolent just because the Gu King’s Wrath didn't work on you!"
Su Ye’s intent to kill was absolute. "I am being insolent. What are you going to do about it?"
