Jump into the vortex? This was absolutely a nerve-wracking command. Beneath that sea surface lurked numerous ferocious sea beasts, and no matter how one looked at that swirling vortex, it was a dead end. Were they really supposed to jump in?

Suddenly, almost everyone hesitated, shouting in alarm.

“Can we really jump down there? That’s a vortex below!”

“What should we do? Should we jump? Vice Alliance Leader Ouyang Mu wouldn’t deceive us, would he? He’s a person of great renown.”

Su Ye gazed at the churning vortex; it appeared bottomless. If it were an ordinary whirlpool, no warrior would be foolish enough to leap into it. Yet, within the vortex soared a gigantic barbaric eagle.

It was as if this massive eagle had been guarding some exit, and suddenly it flew away from that opening.

Seeing everyone hesitate, Ouyang Yunfeng called over to Gang Jin beside him and said gravely, “They’re all afraid to go. Gang Jin, you go! Just jump in. Nothing will happen.”

“Yes! Take care of yourself. I’m going first!” Gang Jin replied without a trace of emotion, as if, in his eyes, the vortex was not something terrifying but a grand path. With a nod, he strode toward the vortex.

The warriors parted to make way, their eyes wide with astonishment.

Gang Jin reached the vortex without hesitation, leapt up, and with a splash, disappeared beneath the surface.

Everyone’s eyes followed him, their hearts sinking as Gang Jin’s figure vanished completely without reappearing.

“Where is he?”

“Gone? Already through?”

At that moment, a tremendous roar echoed from deep within the swirling water as a colossal figure burst forth. It was a monstrous beast charging out of the vortex, sending the sea into a furious turmoil.

Waves surged high into the air, cascading off the enormous creature’s body as it soared upward, reaching tens of meters above the sea.

“Aaah!” Around the ocean’s edge, sea beasts cried out in terror and fled en masse.

These creatures were fierce predators, lingering by the shore eager to devour warriors. Even when the collapse of Thunder City had caused a tremendous noise, they had not fled. But now, not a single one remained; the sea surface seemed remarkably clean.

“What on earth is that thing?”

“It’s a vulture, but it’s enormous!” All the warriors stared upward in shock, beholding a vulture hundreds of meters in size.

This vulture was not alive.

Its body was skeletal and desiccated, its feathers dead and withered. Yet, by some terrifying sorcery, it soared into the sky, circling high above.

“Where did such a vulture come from?”

“Could it be true? The legend says the Gu King used forbidden magic to resurrect a giant divine eagle to guard a city. That was just the Gu King preparing. Now this great eagle has appeared. The legend must be true.” Elder Bei Fei muttered, then knelt and bowed deeply toward the vulture.

The other Gu Shamans followed suit, kneeling as well.

Su Ye stared unblinkingly at the vulture. When he saw its head, he was startled—the vulture had no eyes.

A giant vulture without eyes! Who could possibly have the power to subdue such a beast?

“Such a divine bird could rival the legendary Kunpeng,” Su Ye murmured thoughtfully.

Jiang Liuying agreed, “Maybe not. The books say the Kunpeng is tens of thousands of miles wide, but this bird is still excessively large. If it were alive, its meat could feed us for many meals...”

Su Ye gave Jiang Liuying a sidelong glance. What nonsense was she thinking?

Just then, a small figure appeared on the vulture’s back—it was Gang Jin, who had jumped down earlier. He laughed heartily, exuding confidence. “It’s safe up here. Come on up!”

Ouyang Mu frowned at Gang Jin, displeased, and sternly said, “This vulture is the divine beast that will take all of us away. Only our Martial Alliance has the power to summon it. Anyone who wishes to leave must surrender half of what they have gained.”

“What? You want half?” A roar of protests broke out among the warriors.

Ouyang Mu was demanding far too much. They were all part of the alliance and had earned their treasures through hardship and death, yet Ouyang Mu was demanding half outright?

He showed no patience. “Those who agree, come up. Those who don’t, stay behind! I don’t have time for arguments! Martial Alliance warriors—move first!”

“Yes!” the Martial Alliance warriors shouted in unison.

They began moving swiftly, carrying numerous bags and heavy wooden boxes. Though the vulture was now about ten meters above, this posed no challenge to them.

Many leapt up to the bird’s back, quickly tossing up their heavy cargo with ease.

Seeing them act, others could no longer resist and agreed to surrender half their goods to leave.

Once one went, others followed in droves.

Ouyang Yunfeng sighed deeply and said to Jiang Ziyang, “Master Jiang, please. Your Jiang family and our Martial Alliance are true allies. We will not take a single thing from your family.”

“Thank you, Vice Alliance Leader,” Jiang Ziyang smiled. If they really lost half their belongings, it would be a heavy blow.

Su Ye and Jiang Liuying were naturally pleased, especially Su Ye, who possessed priceless treasures and would never relinquish any.

Jiang Liuying whispered, “Hey, Su Ye, let me hold your things for now. It’s safer that way.”

“Heh, I don’t trust you for a second. If you have them, that’s the least safe! You little devil, I know what you’re thinking,” Su Ye said dismissively. Then, leaping up, he landed on the giant vulture’s back.

The surface beneath his feet felt like sand—thick and solid, with no hint of wobbling.

He found a place to sit, marveling secretly at such a colossal vulture. Truly, extraordinary things abounded in Huaxia, things he had never encountered before.

Jiang Liuying sat beside him, leaning comfortably against his back, sighing with relief. “Ah, finally we can leave this hellhole. I never, ever want to come back here. I want to go home, eat meat, take a bath! Studying is so much better.”

“Turning over a new leaf? Didn’t you love traveling? This place suits you for retirement.”

“Forget it, you retire yourself! Didn’t you hear? Next time we leave will be in ten years. Who wants to live here for ten years? Tsk tsk.”

Su Ye pushed her away, but she clung stubbornly like a limp ragdoll, impossible to shake off.

Before long, all the warriors had boarded, and the sea was empty.

“Depart!” Ouyang Mu roared suddenly. Without explanation, he blew a flute, and the giant vulture took flight, soaring swiftly.

With a few powerful wingbeats, it rose a hundred meters into the air.

At that moment, Su Ye’s heart skipped a beat, sensing a dangerous presence like a venomous snake fixated on him. He whipped around and saw a filthy man sitting among the crowd.

The man’s face was unfamiliar, but his eyes burned with hatred.

“Who is that?” Su Ye frowned.

From afar, Ouyang Mu strode up and shouted at Su Ye, “You’re Su Ye, right? Hand over all your belongings.”

“What? You must be mistaken, Vice Alliance Leader!” Su Ye frowned, sensing something amiss.

Jiang Liuying quickly said, “But the Alliance Leader said our Jiang family doesn’t have to surrender anything. Su Ye is part of our family.”

“Shut up—what does that have to do with you?” Ouyang Mu snapped at Jiang Liuying, then glared at Su Ye. “Don’t you understand? Hand over all your treasures!”

Ouyang Yunfeng hurried over, his face dark. “Vice Alliance Leader, he’s from the Jiang family. I promised we wouldn’t take their goods. He doesn’t even have any treasures. Let it go.”

But Ouyang Mu ignored him with a cold snort. “Who do you think you are? I’m the Vice Alliance Leader, here to settle your mess personally. Why should I listen to you? Don’t forget—you failed to acquire what the Alliance Leader wanted. You’ve been stripped of your Deputy Alliance Leader title.”

Boom—

Everyone’s expression changed in shock. Ouyang Yunfeng had lost his position? Impossible!

Ouyang Yunfeng trembled but clearly knew what was happening. Clenching his fists, he gritted out, “Alliance Leader Ouyang promised not to harm the Jiang family.”

“The Jiang family doesn’t include Su Ye!” Ouyang Mu snapped.

Ouyang Mu waved his hand, pointing directly at Su Ye. “Will you hand it over or not?”

Su Ye clenched his fist tightly. In a flash, he recognized the stranger’s face—the hateful gaze was far too familiar.

“Ye Lingyun—”

Bang!!

Su Ye shouted suddenly. Beyond the crowd, the unfamiliar face was indeed Ye Lingyun.

At that moment, Ouyang Mu struck without warning, moving so fast Su Ye barely reacted.

Bang!!

A massive burst of light exploded, and a sword beam shot toward Jiang Liuying.

“Watch out!!”

Su Ye dodged swiftly, knocking Jiang Liuying down, but was violently kicked and slammed to the ground.

The flute sounded sharply.

Howl!!

The giant vulture beneath them seemed to pulse with tremendous power. Su Ye was violently flung away by the beast’s force.

His body spun wildly, sliding off the vulture’s back. Luckily, he grabbed a feather, dangling precariously.

Swoosh!

“Su Ye, hand over the goods, or I’ll kill her!” Ouyang Mu grabbed Jiang Liuying, pressing a dagger to her throat.

Su Ye’s fury exploded, but no one dared to move. Even Jiang Ziyang could only shout for Ouyang Mu to hold back.

“Don’t hurt her! Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you!” Su Ye immediately agreed. He wouldn’t risk their lives.

Though the treasures were precious, they weren’t worth dying for.

He pulled out a storage conch and shouted, “Everything is inside. Release her first; I’ll give you the goods.”

“Fine—” Ouyang Mu didn’t hesitate, pushing Jiang Liuying aside but not far.

Su Ye had no choice but to toss the storage conch up.

Ouyang Mu caught it with a laugh, still eyeing the dangling Su Ye. “Too bad, I won’t let you go!”

Swoosh!!

Ouyang Mu swung the dagger at Su Ye with a fierce slash, the blade glowing with deadly sharpness.

“Old fool, I will kill you!” Su Ye was struck, falling through the air.

His body plummeted rapidly, and the giant vulture suddenly shrank.

“No—”

Jiang Liuying trembled, crying out sharply. She charged at Ouyang Mu, snatching the conch, her long hair billowing.

Without hesitation, she leapt after Su Ye—

Straight into the descent.
