Chapter Fifty-Eight: Brother, I’m Late!
"Help—murder! Somebody, help!"
Zhou Yuyang crawled forward, his body trembling as he screamed himself hoarse. At that moment, he desperately wished someone would appear to save him.
As for fighting Su Ye with his life—he simply did not have that kind of courage.
"Do you really think anyone can save you?"
Su Ye's hatred toward Zhou Yuyang had reached an irredeemable depth. Truth be told, though Li Haoxuan, Song Chenxin, and the others deserved to die, the true culprit was Zhou Yuyang.
It was Zhou Yuyang who had first tried to cut the rope; Li Haoxuan only took the dagger later, in a bid to survive.
"Help! Is anyone there? Su Ye is trying to kill me, he’s going to murder me!" Zhou Yuyang shouted with all his might.
Su Ye frowned, for ahead there indeed came the sound of voices—quite a few, in fact.
Zhou Yuyang heard it too; overjoyed, his will to survive flared. He broke into a frantic run.
But how could Su Ye let him have his way? He rushed forward, kicked Zhou Yuyang to the ground, and with another swift kick, snapped Zhou Yuyang's spine.
Zhou Yuyang could only scream in agony, unable to run any further.
At that moment, a number of figures surged into view. At the front was Mu Xia, whom Su Ye had not seen for a long time, along with a crowd of the young geniuses who had fled earlier.
Now, family warriors accompanied them.
It seemed that not only the Zhou and Yu families had arrived—other family warriors had come as well.
"Su Ye—" Mu Xia called from afar. When she saw Su Ye about to kill Zhou Yuyang, the words she meant to say faltered on her lips.
The other disciples also cried out.
"Su Ye, don’t kill him!"
"So many people are watching! Don’t do something foolish! He’s the young master of the Zhou family—whatever the matter, we can discuss it!" Even the warriors hesitated to approach, sensing the murderous intent radiating from Su Ye.
Neither Su Ye nor Zhou Yuyang were people they wished to offend. Provoking either could have unimaginable consequences.
Su Ye saw the many pairs of eyes upon him and frowned. He hadn’t expected so many to discover him at this moment.
Someone nearby shouted quickly, “Su Ye, don’t be reckless! The Jiang family is here too—don’t be rash—”
As he spoke, someone ran off to call for help. Evidently, members of the Jiang family had indeed arrived.
But Su Ye cared nothing for that. Whether Jiang Ziyang or Jiang Liuying had come, he was determined to kill Zhou Yuyang. With that thought, he stepped forward and seized Zhou Yuyang by the throat.
Zhou Yuyang’s terror was overwhelming; his legs kicked helplessly as painful sounds rasped from his throat.
The crowd cried out in shock, “Su Ye, what are you doing? Don’t be reckless! Please, don’t!”
Mu Xia, in anguish, called out, “Su Ye, I know how hateful he is, but look—so many people are watching. If you kill him, how can you go back? What will become of you? What about the Jiang family? Let him go. I believe the Jiang family will give you justice.”
A man, clearly from the Zhou family—fat and trembling, his face ashen at the sight of Zhou Yuyang’s strangulation—stammered out, “Yes, yes, let our young master go. Whatever the issue, we can compensate you. If you dare kill him, think of the consequences! Do you understand? We—hey, Yan Tian, come quickly! The Jiang family wants to kill our young master—make him let go!”
A group of nearly ten figures was fast approaching. The one at the front was tall, handsome, and moved with impressive speed—it was Yan Tian, whom Jiang Ziyang had summoned.
Yan Tian had once been close to Jiang Liuying’s deceased brothers, so many in Yang City recognized him. Privately, he was already regarded as the Jiang family’s son-in-law.
In the future, all the Jiang family’s wealth would be inherited by Yan Tian.
Yan Tian’s face changed when he saw Su Ye poised to kill, but he quickly reassured, “Steward Zhou, don’t worry. As long as I’m here, nothing will happen. Have your people stand back.”
He fixed his gaze on Su Ye, his face darkening with anger. “Little Brother Su Ye, I’m sorry I’m late. Let him go. Don’t escalate this any further.”
Su Ye hadn’t expected Yan Tian to be the one from the Jiang family. He replied in a low voice, “You want me to let him go? Do you know how many times Zhou Yuyang has tried to kill me? If I hadn’t been lucky, I’d already be dead!”
“All right, I know you’ve been wronged. Every year, there are incidents during training here, but that doesn’t mean you can kill. Since you’re safe, leave the rest to me. Understand? This isn’t the time for recklessness—let him go!” Yan Tian’s tone hardened, clearly losing patience.
He hadn’t expected Su Ye to defy him, even in public—his authority was being challenged.
Su Ye, now furious, gritted his teeth. “This is how you handle things? I don’t need your intervention. Whatever the consequences, I’ll bear them myself!”
“Insolent! What can you bear? In the end, won’t the Jiang family have to clean up your mess? I came all this way just to patch things up for you. Don’t make trouble! If not for the sake of the head of the Jiang family and Liuying, I wouldn’t bother with you at all! Don’t be impetuous—none of these families are people you can afford to offend. Do you not understand that?” Yan Tian was furious, his expression sharp as a blade.
Mu Xia, growing uncomfortable, retorted, “Why are you shouting? Did you ask even once if he was hurt, or how many times he was nearly killed? You’re just pushing him over the edge!”
“Silence—what does the Jiang family’s business have to do with you?”
Yan Tian pointed at Su Ye, warning through clenched teeth, “Don’t ruin my plans. This concerns the entire Jiang family. I’ll count to three—let him go: one, two…”
A cruel light flashed in Su Ye’s eyes, the corner of his mouth twitching. He had killed more than once before—would letting Zhou Yuyang go bring him peace?
It would only bring Zhou Yuyang’s even more frenzied vengeance.
Moreover, Su Ye would never live on, cowering in shame.
“Die!”
Crack—
Su Ye twisted Zhou Yuyang’s neck with a sudden jerk, snapping it on the spot.
Instantly, a profound silence fell over the scene.
Everyone stared in shock at Su Ye, watching as he tossed Zhou Yuyang’s lifeless body aside and stood there alone.
“He really killed Zhou Yuyang…”
As they looked at Su Ye, though he stood alone, a deep-seated fear gripped them all.
Even many of the warriors felt awe and alarm.
They all knew Zhou Yuyang’s status; who could have imagined Su Ye would kill him in front of everyone? What nerve! Only three months ago, people called him a nobody—then he defeated Yu Zhisha, and now he had slain Zhou Yuyang.
Were such feats something just anyone could accomplish?
Many recalled that three years ago, Su Ye’s name echoed throughout Yang City—he was the true genius.
Perhaps it was time to consider that none of them should provoke Su Ye any longer.
With Su Ye’s ruthless means, if he wasn’t eliminated early, in a few years all of Yang City might well belong to him.
Su Ye’s gaze swept coldly across the crowd. More than half had been forced onto the island by the Martial Alliance, while the rest were so-called geniuses—none he needed to fear.
“Does anyone else wish to kill me?” Su Ye suddenly asked.
His words made many step back in fright—even the Zhou family, witnessing their young master’s death, dared not act rashly.
Yan Tian, however, clenched his jaw and growled, “Damn it, you’ve ruined everything!”
With that, he turned and left without looking back.
The other family warriors, seeing this, seemed to realize something; with Zhou Yuyang dead, there was no point in staying. They quickly led their young masters and ladies away.
Seeing so many warriors present, Su Ye knew it was not wise to seek out Qian Liluo now—if he returned alone, it might be even more dangerous.
Before several Zhou family warriors, he casually took the backpack from Zhou Yuyang’s corpse—it contained many valuable coldwater shells.
Mu Xia, silent, followed her family’s warriors. She glanced back and saw Su Ye’s clothes torn to shreds. After asking someone for a spare garment, she hung it on a tree for him from a distance.
Su Ye nodded to her, walked over, and donned the clothes.
Thus, everyone began the return journey in an atmosphere thick with unease and tension…
The Zhou family warriors hurried to Zhou Yuyang’s corpse. Checking his neck, each shut his eyes in despair. One man, staring at Su Ye’s retreating figure, gnashed his teeth and said:
“Inform the family—have them act! The Jiang family must not be spared. As for Su Ye, he must die.”
