Chapter Thirty: The Wheel of Talent
As time passed, countless points of light drifted from various parts of Luo Tian's body and gathered together, gradually forming a circular disk.
This thing—
Luo Tian was speechless. After taking the Mingyuan Pill, a so-called talent wheel would appear, representing the proportions of elemental forces within one’s body. Yet this talent wheel looked uncannily like those pie charts used for statistics back in his previous life.
For a moment, Luo Tian almost felt as if he was about to traverse time and return.
Red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, black, white—nine colors, representing fire, earth, metal, wood, wind, water, lightning, darkness, and light, the nine elements of heaven and earth. Each occupied a segment, slicing the pie chart into wedges. The lights were still somewhat blurred, not yet sharply defined.
One look at this, and Luo Tian’s vision darkened.
The fewer elemental types within a person’s body, the greater the proportion each one could occupy. If there were only three elements, even divided evenly, it would not be too bad. If someone possessed only a single element, a pure elemental body, it was extraordinary talent—the makings of a future peerless genius, success almost guaranteed as long as they survived.
Luo Tian was frustrated—nine elements! His physical body seemed to have collected every possible element. What kind of luck was this?
Such an unlucky transmigrator—he doubted anyone else could compare.
Yet, despite the internal wailing, Luo Tian still harbored a thread of hope.
At this stage, the wheel only indicated the presence of nine elements; their actual proportions would be determined later, and the final distribution was yet to settle. If by some miracle, one element dominated, pushing the others to the margins, there was still a chance for greatness.
Senior Luo’s temperament was excellent; he could guide others in cultivation, accepting only modest rewards—a gentleman in every sense. They say the highest virtue is like water; if water ended up prevailing in his talent wheel, it would not be impossible.
Yes, that would be good.
Luo Tian nodded quietly, speculating.
Moreover, “graceful as a jade tree in the wind”—his physique, though not so handsome as to make others instantly infatuated, was certainly marked by red lips and white teeth, features well-defined, and a handsome, elegant bearing. If the wind attribute’s cyan surged ahead, that would make sense as well.
The wheel began to turn slowly, and Luo Tian’s attention was wholly fixed upon it, his thoughts wandering wildly.
He considered nearly all nine elements. Though it seemed a long process, in reality only a little time had passed before the talent wheel began to clarify.
It was coming!
Luo Tian even restrained his breathing, fearing that any exertion might startle the wheel and affect the display of his talent.
Of course, that was a joke, but Luo Tian was genuinely tense.
The elemental rays separated distinctly.
The nine colors gradually sharpened, like a rainbow emerging after clouds and mist, or like a maiden finally unveiling her face.
Luo Tian was instantly stunned, his complexion changing dramatically.
Each segment of the nine colors was nearly equal in size. Though not exactly evenly divided, the difference was negligible—only the fiery red, representing flame, occupied a slightly larger area, but not by much.
This—
This was the most tragic outcome!
Luo Tian felt utterly desolate—he had ridden the wave of transmigration, only to be struck by misfortune.
Like ripples on a tranquil lake, at that moment, the talent wheel began to change.
Could there be a reversal?
Luo Tian stared intently.
He watched as the wheel shifted forward slightly, leaving behind a residual shadow in its previous position. As the wheel moved, the afterimage did not fade, but instead grew more substantial.
It was as if it had been copied.
Luo Tian could hardly believe his eyes. What was happening? He had never heard of any cultivator possessing two talent wheels. Why did a transmigrator like himself encounter such a thing?
Transmigration?
A sudden revelation struck Luo Tian.
Other cultivators were native to this world, their spirits and bodies seamlessly integrated. Luo Tian, however, knew he was different.
At the very least, his soul was entirely foreign to this realm!
If that was truly the case—
Luo Tian carefully examined the two talent wheels, and his gloom lifted a little.
If he truly possessed double talent, then there was hope yet!
If, within a talent wheel, a single element occupied a third of the area, that already qualified as genius; cultivating corresponding techniques would yield results twice as fast as ordinary practitioners. If it reached half or more, it was undoubtedly the mark of a true prodigy, destined for greatness.
Such levels of genius were rare. Generally, if an element reached a fifth of the wheel, it was already sufficient to be considered talented, worthy of cultivation.
Luo Tian calculated silently. His dual flame talents, combined, did not quite reach the genius threshold, but were not far off—he could count himself as an outstanding talent.
Talent it is, then.
Luo Tian pursed his lips with reluctance. This transmigration was truly stifling, but fortunately, his soul strength surpassed others by more than a little.
The overall brightness of the talent wheel offered a glimpse into the strength of the soul.
Luo Tian, having studied cultivation basics these past few days, understood this well.
Even divided into two, the brightness of each wheel was not diminished. Combined, it could be likened to a lighthouse in the midst of the sea.
It seemed this was the only thing he could take comfort in.
His mood remained poor, but there was nothing to be done—he would have to take things as they came. At least, he still had the Divine Eye to rely on; he might not be inferior to other geniuses after all!
With a long sigh, Luo Tian stood up. The colors of the talent wheel faded, growing lighter and paler until they vanished, countless points of light dissolving into nothingness.
Luo Tian bounced restlessly around the room, venting his frustration until he felt somewhat relieved. Sensing no progress in cultivation, Luo Tian suddenly remembered—
Perhaps it was time to seek out a new magical beast to observe for the Nine Beasts Fist.
