Chapter 130: The Shadow of the Vicious Beast
An indigo figure leaped rapidly between the treetops, seemingly hunting for an opening to strike, leaving the group breathless as they struggled to keep track of its movements. It was truly difficult to pin down a target that constantly darted and vaulted through the dense forest.
The Tobi-Kadachi was searching for an opening, and Su Yi was doing the same.
"I don't care why you decided to attack us," Su Yi thought, his focus sharpening. "But since you've made your move, be prepared to face the thunderous counterattack of my monsties."
Soon, the Tobi-Kadachi seemed to grow impatient. With a strange, chattering cry, the indigo figure vaulted down from the trees. During its descent, it splayed its limbs, stretching the flexible patagia between its fore and hind legs. Gliding down like a colossal flying squirrel, it performed a rapid mid-air flip to build momentum before slamming its massive, bushy tail downward.
The moment Su Yi heard the commotion, he immediately threw a sphere.
*Bang!*
The Great Jagras materialized instantly to shield Su Yi, simultaneously using the "Protect" technique. A shimmering barrier manifested above them.
*Thud!*
The fierce, flipping tail-slam struck the barrier. The shield shuddered but successfully repelled the Tobi-Kadachi's attack. Having failed its strike, the creature landed on the ground. In that split second, Su Yi threw another sphere.
*Howl!*
The Odogaron lunged out with a low growl, its maw filled with jagged teeth snapping shut around the Tobi-Kadachi's neck, catching the creature completely off guard. As the Tobi-Kadachi was pinned, Aiden exclaimed in surprise, "The Tobi-Kadachi has so many wounds!"
Su Yi looked closer and realized that the creature’s body was covered in scars of varying sizes. Its scales were slashed open, revealing raw flesh, and patches of its white fur were scorched black.
*Hiss!*
The Tobi-Kadachi let out a snake-like hiss. Its white fur stood on end, the electrode needles on its head rose, and azure electricity surged across its entire body. The moment it entered its discharged state, a powerful current flowed through the Odogaron, interfering with its nervous system. Stiffened by the shock, the Odogaron’s grip loosened, and the Tobi-Kadachi seized the opportunity to break free.
"Great Jagras, Dragon Pulse!" Su Yi commanded immediately.
*Roar!*
The Great Jagras opened its massive jaws, and a dragon-element energy blast shaped like a dragon surged toward the Tobi-Kadachi.
*Boom!*
The Dragon Pulse hit its mark instantly, detonating with such force that a gale of wind whipped through the forest, carrying broken branches and leaves in its wake.
"What kind of ability is that? Is this monster, the Great Jagras, really that strong?" Aiden asked, stunned.
*Boom!*
A tree, struck by the blast, crashed down. The battered Tobi-Kadachi scrambled out from the wreckage and quickly scrambled up a tree. It looked back, glancing between the Odogaron and the Great Jagras with a mix of shock and suspicion—one was a powerful enemy it had never encountered, and the other was a forest neighbor that was nothing like the one it remembered. The barrage of attacks had clearly cleared its head.
Hesitation? Too late!
"Dragon Pulse again! Knock it down!" Su Yi shouted.
The Great Jagras unleashed another Dragon Pulse. Realizing it could not defeat these enemies, the Tobi-Kadachi abandoned the fight and leaped through the trees, fleeing deeper into the forest.
"Hmph! Trying to escape?" Su Yi recalled the Great Jagras and mounted the Odogaron. "I'm going to capture that Tobi-Kadachi. Are you two heading back to the base, or are you coming with me?"
Aiden said excitedly, "You're going to capture a monster? I have to see this!"
The Handler was equally enthusiastic. "I want to go too!"
"Then hop on!" Su Yi patted the Odogaron's back.
As the Tobi-Kadachi leaped through the trees, its wounds made it both furious and anxious. The Odogaron sniffed the air, doggedly tracking the Tobi-Kadachi through the complex and shifting forest terrain. Sensing it was being hunted by the red beast, the Tobi-Kadachi suddenly changed direction.
"That thing knows this terrain too well," Su Yi said helplessly, unable to close the distance. The Tobi-Kadachi was naturally adept at navigating the forest, while the Odogaron had never tracked prey through such dense, labyrinthine woods, which severely limited its speed.
As they continued the pursuit, the surrounding environment gradually opened up, and the dense underbrush began to thin.
*Chirp!*
The Tobi-Kadachi let out a loud cry as it burst into a forest clearing.
"Is it trying to commit suicide?" Su Yi wondered aloud. In a clearing with few trees, the Tobi-Kadachi would lose its advantage of agile movement.
The Tobi-Kadachi stood there, breathing heavily. It looked battered and exhausted, yet it was scanning its surroundings rapidly, as if looking for something.
"This monster... is it intentionally luring us here?" the Handler asked uncertainly.
Recalling the Tobi-Kadachi’s series of strange behaviors, Su Yi frowned. "What exactly are you plotting?"
*Hiss!*
Suddenly, the Tobi-Kadachi’s snake-like pupils contracted, and it let out a wary hiss toward the thicket outside the clearing.
"There's something else nearby!" Aiden warned, on high alert.
*Thump, thump.*
Heavy footsteps approached, and the trees trembled. A massive silhouette emerged from the forest, glaring with malicious intent at the creatures that had intruded upon its territory.
"An Anjanath!? This is its turf?!" Su Yi exclaimed in shock.
"It's that one!" the Handler said, her memory still fresh from being carried on the Anjanath's back.
*ROAR!*
The Anjanath let out a thunderous roar. It glanced at the Tobi-Kadachi, then at Su Yi’s party mounted on the Odogaron. Its eyes turned vicious, and it let out a furious roar directly at the Odogaron.
"Using a tiger to devour a wolf? You wily Tobi-Kadachi!" Su Yi finally understood its plan. The creature had led them into the Anjanath's territory to incite a conflict, hoping to slip away while they were distracted. Coincidentally, Su Yi’s group already had a history with this Anjanath, so the monster’s attention was instantly drawn to them.
By sheer accident, the Tobi-Kadachi’s plan had worked perfectly.
"I never imagined this would happen!" Su Yi’s expression darkened. In the game, he loved to lure two monsters together to trigger a turf war and watch from the sidelines, reaping the rewards. But this time, he had been the one lured into another monster's territory, successfully drawing all the aggro.
*Roar!*
The Anjanath flared its nasal crest and dorsal fins, entering combat mode. Seeing this, the Tobi-Kadachi cunningly backed away, attempting to sneak out of the clearing.
*Thump, thump, thump!*
The sound of heavy footfalls returned. Hearing the noise, the Tobi-Kadachi shrieked as it looked toward the forest behind it.
*Bang!*
A fierce figure charged out, ruthlessly slamming into the unsuspecting Tobi-Kadachi and knocking it back into the clearing. The Anjanath’s attention was diverted, and Su Yi turned his head in surprise, exclaiming, "It's you!?"
