Chapter 147: Su Yi: Quick-Cat, Save Me!
The Yian Garuga trailing behind had several new scratches on its armor, evidently inflicted by the Azure Rathalos. Yet, it remained a mystery how it had managed to shake off the latter.
"Looks like it didn't get beaten up quite enough..."
Suyi retrieved a Max Potion and handed it to Lucat, saying, "Aibo, help me patch up the Corviknight."
"Understood, meow!" Lucat took the potion and immediately began spraying it onto the Corviknight's injured wings.
Meanwhile, Suyi quickly loaded his slinger.
"A monster's life is incomplete if it has never been knocked down by a flash pod."
Aiming at the relentless Yian Garuga hot on their tails, Suyi fired the flash pod.
"I'll supplement that for you right now!"
Fwump!
A brilliant flash erupted. The Yian Garuga, charging blindly ahead, was caught square in the blast. It shrieked in panic and plummeted directly down into the forest canopy below.
"Too naive." Suyi calmly lowered his slinger.
"Potion application complete, meow!" Lucat turned around and gave a thumbs-up.
The pain in the Corviknight's wings subsided almost instantly.
Before Suyi could even heave a sigh of relief—
Roar! A furious bellow pierced through the woods.
Following that, a ferocious gale struck!
Relying purely on instinct, the Corviknight flapped its wings and veered away just as a massive silhouette brushed past. Soaring into the sky, the beast adjusted its trajectory and then dove headfirst toward the Corviknight.
"The Azure Rathalos?! You good sir, you didn't leave?!" Suyi cried out in alarm.
Whoosh!
The Azure Rathalos closed in at breakneck speed, and Suyi immediately ordered the Corviknight to evade.
True to its title as the King of the Skies, the Azure Rathalos executed various agile maneuvers with its enormous body, attempting to snatch the Corviknight out of the air.
Caught in the tempest whipped up by the Azure Rathalos's azure-blue frame, the Corviknight was tossed about like a withered leaf caught in a storm.
Watching the Azure Rathalos pivot and dive with such fluid grace, Suyi found himself momentarily unable to find the right window to loose another flash pod.
Clinging tightly to the Corviknight's back, Suyi ducked and dodged the incoming onslaught as the flying type twisted through the air.
As his hand brushed against the Corviknight's mirror-smooth armor, an idea suddenly sparked in Suyi's mind.
"Incoming, an extra-large flash pod!" Suyi aimed his slinger directly at the Corviknight's armor and fired.
Fwump!
The flash pod detonated into a blinding glare. When the intense light struck the Corviknight's armor, the Mirror Armor ability caught the luminescence and reflected it outward in every conceivable direction.
The Azure Rathalos in the sky was caught completely off guard.
This tactic was inspired by how the Tzitzi-Ya-Ku utilized the polished shells within its nest to reflect flashes.
Whoa-ah-ah!
Flying in erratic, uncontrolled zigzags, the Azure Rathalos slammed heavily into the Corviknight.
"Oh no!" Suyi gasped.
"Caw-ah!" The Corviknight fought to stabilize itself.
However, the sheer weight of the Azure Rathalos forced the Corviknight down in a rapid descent.
Bang!
At the eleventh hour, the Corviknight managed to break free from the Azure Rathalos's suppression, scrambling into chaotic flight, only to find its path immediately blocked by a dense maze of vines and branches.
Bang, bang, bang!
Dizzy and disoriented, the Corviknight stumbled blindly through the forest until it crashed hard into a massive tree and tumbled to the ground.
"I never imagined I'd get shot down by another monster one day." Suyi rubbed his head and climbed back to his feet.
"Meow!" Lucat shook his head dazedly, walking with unsteady steps.
"Corviknight, are you alright?" Suyi rushed over to check its condition.
"Caw-ah..." The Corviknight stood up, its body covered in numerous scuffs and tears.
"Thank you for your hard work." Suyi quickly applied some medication before recalling it into its ball.
"Have we lost the trail?" Suyi murmured, looking around.
Bzz!
The scoutflies fluttered out, attaching themselves to a footprint.
"Those are footprints belonging to either an Anjanath or a Fulgur Anjanath!" Suyi said with renewed vigor.
With tracks to follow, the scoutflies could track them; he hadn't lost them yet!
Roar-howl!
Caw-ah!
The cries of the Azure Rathalos and the Yian Garuga echoed through the forest once more.
Without a moment to waste, Suyi set off in pursuit.
...
Deep inside the Ancient Forest, within its vast and complex hollow core.
Bang!
The Fulgur Anjanath caught up to the gradually fatiguing Anjanath and slammed into it with brute force.
The Anjanath immediately whipped around to bite back.
The Fulgur Anjanath bared its lightning-crackling fangs in retaliation.
After a fierce clash, the Anjanath suffered too many injuries and collapsed powerlessly to the ground.
"Hmph!" The Fulgur Anjanath let out a heavy breath, a look of brutal triumph flashing in its eyes.
Finally, this competitor was about to be thoroughly eradicated.
"Odogaron! Lacerating Claws!"
Suyi's shout rang out as the crimson beast lashed out with bone-white talons, sending a massive spray of blood flying.
Stunned by the pain, the Fulgur Anjanath whipped its head around with a vicious glare.
"That's my prey." Suyi said, tossing the sphere in his hand.
Thump, thump...
A procession of companion beasts appeared.
Roar!
Howl!
Caw-ah-ah!
For a moment, a chorus of roars echoed through the cavernous hollow of the giant tree.
Roar-ang-ang!
Refusing to back down, the Fulgur Anjanath let out a towering roar as arcs of electricity danced across its body.
"Lucat, play the music! All forces, attack!" Suyi commanded.
"Coming, meow!" Lucat clutched his instrument, striking up a stirring melody.
Illusionary musical notes swirled around the companion beasts.
Like a decisive battle, as the music swelled, a brief standoff ensued before the Fulgur Anjanath made the first move, snapping its lightning-charged jaws and thrashing its head.
The Odogaron leaped into the air, lunging straight for the head.
The Great Jagras used Double-Edge, charging straight ahead.
Bang.
The Fulgur Anjanath savagely clamped its jaws onto the Great Jagras, while the Odogaron seized the opportunity to slash at its head, adding countless gruesome wounds.
Roar-howl!
The Fulgur Anjanath released its grip in agony, allowing the Tobi-Kadachi to leap into the fray, lashing out at its head with a tail strike.
Bang!
The Fulgur Anjanath staggered backward.
"Caw-ah!" The Kulu-Ya-Ku heaved a heavy rock forward with all its might, striking the beast squarely on the head with a dull thud.
Ang-ang-ang!
The Fulgur Anjanath wailed as it collapsed, struggling violently.
"Go! Capture sphere..." Seizing the moment, Suyi prepared to hurl a capture sphere toward the downing Anjanath.
At that exact microsecond, an unexpected crisis struck!
A dark-purple silhouette dove in from an opening in the giant tree, hurtling straight toward Suyi.
And coincidentally, there were no companion beasts guarding Suyi's immediate vicinity!
"Suyi, meow!"
Lucat cried out in desperate anxiety, drawing his longsword. In that split second, crackling electricity enveloped Lucat's form as he dashed toward Suyi with utmost velocity.
"Meow!" Lucat slashed his longsword at the ambushing Yian Garuga. Instantly, all the electricity coating Lucat surged into the blade, transforming it into a cutting edge of crackling lightning.
Zzt!
The sword swept across the Yian Garuga's carapace, leaving a long, pale scar in its wake.
However, because Yian Garuga possesses a high resistance to the Thunder element, the beast merely paused for a fraction of a second before lunging to peck at Suyi once more.
Lucat had bought Suyi just enough time to hurl himself sideways to the dodge. Missing its target, the Yian Garuga raised its head and emitted a piercing, shrill shriek.
The ear-splitting shriek instantly left Suyi, standing so close to it, dizzy and disoriented.
"Caw-ah!" The Yian Garuga struck again with its beak.
Sensing the mortal peril, the companion beasts abandoned their foes and rushed back to save Suyi.
Yet, the Fulgur Anjanath heaved itself back up with a heavy thud, sweeping its tail in an arc that delayed the approaching companion beasts by a crucial second.
"Hah!" Suyi let out a fierce grunt, thrusting his shield forward to block.
Clang!
The shield was batted away. Numbing pain shot up Suyi's right arm as the sheer impact forced him backward onto the ground.
Relentless in its advantage, the Yian Garuga moved in for another strike with its vicious beak.
Propping himself up, Suyi gritted his teeth and hurled a capture sphere, roaring at the top of his lungs, "Nargacuga, save me!"
