Chapter 150: Taming the Savage Jaw Dragon
The Tyrannodragon: "……"
When it first appeared, it hadn’t noticed that several accompanying beasts were nearby. Only when the cacophony of diverse roars erupted did it realize it had long been surrounded by them.
At this moment, it had only regained a fraction of its strength; its wounds remained untreated, and having not eaten, its body was still feeble.
It was utterly incapable of fighting.
Nervous, alert, and somewhat restless, the Tyrannodragon’s expression tightened—it had no idea what fate awaited it.
Su Yi stood with hands on hips, a triumphant smile playing on his lips. “Heh heh, finally caught you, huh?”
He then muttered some sayings about the shifting fortunes of rivers over thirty years—phrases the accompanying beasts couldn't understand.
From being chased by the Tyrannodragon to now confidently battling both the Thunderjaw and Black Wolfbird, only about three months had passed.
Once he tamed the Tyrannodragon, his core team would consist of the Cruelclaw, Swiftpaw, and Tyrannodragon—three formidable generals.
In the realm of Pokémon, this lineup, along with his other companions, could hold their own against any champion’s full team.
Seeing the nervousness and anxiety etched on the Tyrannodragon’s face, Su Yi soothed it lightly, “Relax. As long as you don’t attack, we won’t hurt you.”
“I’m not the kind to keep grudges over trivial things and chase someone down for miles.”
The Tyrannodragon silently suspected a double meaning but chose not to voice it.
In truth, it had long since ceased to care about the stink bombs Su Yi and the Grassling had stuffed into its mouth back then.
After all, in the forest, clashes with other monsters were frequent, and it had fiercely contested territory with the Thunderjaw.
Compared to those, the earlier friction with Su Yi was trivial.
Still, it had to be said: this time, Su Yi had been chasing it from before breakfast all the way into the afternoon.
From the vast plains surrounding the forest to the ancient colossal tree, finally pursuing it right up to its lair.
The Tyrannodragon’s anger grew, and it let out a furious roar: “How dare you say I hold a grudge?!”
Su Yi, puzzled by the sudden outburst, looked to the Grassling for translation. Upon hearing it, his expression shifted subtly.
“Well, it’s not my fault. You were the mission target—and an easy one at that.”
Su Yi smirked. “We’re even.”
Yet after a moment’s thought, he felt something was off.
“No, this is hunting. I’m already doing you a favor by not setting traps and ambushes.”
“And if I hadn’t captured you, sooner or later some other hunter would have come for you—and you’d have ended up as equipment.”
“Shouldn’t you be thanking me?”
The Tyrannodragon snorted: “Fine, I thank you.”
“Your fate has changed, Tyrannodragon,” Su Yi said with a smile. “Just guarding that tiny patch of forest is dull. Come adventure with me, travel, and see the continent.”
“There are many fascinating things you won’t witness by staying in this forest.”
Now tamed, the Tyrannodragon’s thoughts were no longer simple.
For a creature with complex cognition, learning the outside world was vast inevitably stirred curiosity.
These newly awakened, higher-thinking companions felt somewhat lost, aware they had changed but unable to pinpoint exactly how.
Su Yi, who had brought about this transformation, needed to guide them.
“Howl…” the Tyrannodragon pondered and then communicated something.
“Meow? It says it will obey your commands, Su Yi, but you must help it grow stronger so it can one-on-one defeat the Thunderjaw,” the Grassling translated.
Su Yi: So the grudge hasn’t vanished, it’s just been redirected.
“You’re quite competitive and proud, aren’t you?”
He pulled out a small disk, smiling mysteriously. “Actually, beating the Thunderjaw isn’t that hard, as long as you can use this.”
The Tyrannodragon leaned forward curiously, eyeing the object, then looked puzzled.
What could this little thing do?
Su Yi chuckled. “Don’t underestimate it. This is power. Let’s see if you can learn to use it.”
He opened the Tyrannodragon’s information.
[Name: Tyrannodragon
Species: Tyrannodragon (Male)
Type: Fire, Dragon
Ability: Vicious Fang (Bite-type moves have 30% increased power and are unaffected by negative status effects)
Moves: Vicious Bite (Signature move, power 90, Dragon-type physical attack; fiercely charges and bites the target, with a high chance to cause flinching), Slime Splash (Signature move, power 20, Normal-type special attack; sprays slime at the opponent, sometimes lowering their speed), Fire Fang, Bite, Spark, Burn Up, Headbutt, Heavy Stomp, Slap, etc.]
Judging by its ability, the Tyrannodragon relied mainly on bite-based moves, living up to its fierce name.
However, when Su Yi checked the move record against the Tyrannodragon’s data, no exclamation mark indicating learnability lit up.
Su Yi sighed. “Too bad, you can’t learn Dragon Dance.”
The Tyrannodragon lost interest in the move record, evidently unaware of what that move meant for it.
“Strange! Why can’t you learn Dragon Dance? The Jawsaur can, but you can’t?” Su Yi was baffled.
“Seems only Swiftpaw and Skywing can learn Dragon Dance. Maybe only flying dragons can?” Su Yi mused, but with too few samples, he couldn’t jump to conclusions.
Some dragons can’t learn Dragon Dance, while some non-dragons can—it was perplexing.
But Dragon Dance wasn’t the only way to grow stronger; he’d gradually unlock its potential later.
“Let’s not dwell on that.”
Su Yi shook his head.
“You must be starving. Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of good food for you!”
With that, he set up a grill outside the shed and began roasting meat.
The aroma grew richer, making the Tyrannodragon’s mouth water.
Soon, the food was ready: a roasted Pterowing and half a roasted herbivore, prepared simply with no fancy techniques.
The Tyrannodragon hungrily devoured the meal, even crunching through the bones of the delicate Pterowing.
“Slow down,” Su Yi muttered, somewhat exasperated, recalling a news story about a puppy nearly choking on chicken bones stolen from the trash.
“Here’s the thing: you’re the eighth companion I’ve tamed—since Skywing and Venombird hatched from eggs. How about calling you ‘Old Eight’?” Su Yi grinned.
The Tyrannodragon turned, glaring at Su Yi’s smile. Somehow, the name felt wrong, so it decisively roared in refusal.
Seeing the resistance, Su Yi quickly waved his hand. “Alright, forget it…”
After the Tyrannodragon had eaten its fill, Su Yi and the Lucky Egg treated its wounds. With a few days of rest, it would soon be full of life again.
In the next couple of days, he planned to return home for Tomb Sweeping Day. Then, starting Monday, he’d be supporting another factory for three to four days—updates might be irregular. He was also handling some other matters recently and hoped for smooth progress…
