Chapter 56: There Is No Reason Why a Pureblood Must Always Lose to a Subspecies!
Upon the plateau, a gentle breeze stirred as two ferocious beasts entered their most formidable states, fangs and claws itching with anticipation.
“Scarclaw Drake, your wounds haven't fully healed yet—beware its draconic breath and fanged assaults...”
Seeing Scarclaw Drake brimming with fighting spirit, Suyi instantly steeled himself, preparing to command the battle.
Yet Scarclaw Drake paid no heed to Suyi’s orders. Almost simultaneously, it and the Direclaw Drake lunged—blood-red talons and bone-white claws slashing through the air, each delivering a ruthless blow.
A sharp sound rang out as their talons pierced flesh, carving fresh, bleeding wounds.
The scent of blood only intensified their bloodlust.
Direclaw Drake tensed, baring its savage fangs as dark crimson draconic energy gathered in its maw. It lunged with murderous intent, but Scarclaw Drake sidestepped, countering with a claw strike aimed at Direclaw’s head.
Scales flew and flesh was torn, leaving a ghastly wound on Direclaw Drake’s face.
Direclaw exhaled a burst of draconic energy, its eyes flashing cold with killing intent.
In that instant, Direclaw Drake surged up, jaws clamping around Scarclaw Drake’s neck from below. With a powerful twist, it slammed Scarclaw Drake beneath it, pinning it down with iron claws—intent on biting it to death.
“Scratcher Bird, Heavy Rock Strike!” Suyi shouted.
With a raucous cry to rally itself, Scratcher Bird hefted an energy-infused boulder and hurled it.
The rock shattered upon impact, forcing Direclaw Drake to release its grip. Enraged, it turned its gaze toward Suyi and Scratcher Bird. In that moment, Scarclaw Drake surged with strength, breaking free from Direclaw’s hold.
Scarclaw Drake panted heavily, blood pouring from its grisly wounds.
“Great Jaw Drake, prepare to disrupt the enemy!” Suyi drew out a capture sphere, intending for Great Jaw Drake, the paralyzer, to support Scarclaw.
But Scarclaw Drake turned and roared at Suyi in fury, once more adopting an aggressive stance toward Direclaw.
Though Scarclaw Drake acknowledged Suyi after his healing efforts, it did not accept that Suyi should interfere in its battle.
Suyi hesitated, frustration in his voice. “You stubborn beast! Don’t you realize you can’t win right now—”
Before he could finish, Scarclaw Drake’s angry roar cut him off.
Can’t win? I do not accept it!
Scarclaw Drake rumbled deeply, tensing its muscles as it stalked forward. Direclaw mirrored the motion, both circling, searching for an opening.
“I understand...” Suyi withdrew Great Jaw Drake’s capture sphere and recalled Scratcher Bird as well.
At that instant, blood spurted from the gash on Direclaw Drake’s head. With a pained snarl, it was momentarily distracted—Scarclaw Drake seized the chance and leapt.
Yet, Direclaw’s body, fortified by draconic energy, was stronger, and Scarclaw’s wounds had not yet healed. In close quarters, Scarclaw again fell at a disadvantage.
Direclaw Drake overpowered Scarclaw, sinking its teeth deep into its neck.
“I know you want the pride of victory by your own claws—but! My heart is the same! I, too, want to win!”
With a sudden burst, Suyi sprinted forward, his grappling device firing and latching onto Direclaw’s head.
With a whir, the device reeled Suyi atop Direclaw’s skull.
Direclaw Drake’s savage eyes darted to this audacious intruder, growling low with Scarclaw still clamped in its jaws.
“Let go!” Suyi pressed the device to Direclaw’s head, shouting with fearless anger.
In an instant, the device unleashed its payload—torches forged from firestone—exploding against Direclaw’s head.
Flames erupted. Direclaw released Scarclaw, howling in pain, the wound on its head now charred and blackened.
Suyi leaped from Direclaw’s head, landing beside Scarclaw Drake.
“I need you to trust my command—my judgment! Together, we will seize victory!” Suyi locked eyes with Scarclaw Drake.
Scarclaw Drake answered with a resounding, spirited roar.
“Our battle has only just begun!” Side by side, Suyi and Scarclaw faced the furious Direclaw.
“There’s no such thing as the original breed being doomed to lose to the variant!”
Enraged, Direclaw Drake leaped, claws sweeping in a murderous arc.
“Dodge to the side, then—Rending Claw!” Suyi commanded.
Scarclaw Drake coolly evaded the strike, then lashed out with claws aglow in ghostly white, rending once more at Direclaw’s head.
Wounded, Direclaw Drake grew even more furious, draconic energy surging ever more violently in its maw.
Seeing Direclaw about to leap, Suyi quickly ordered: “Jump as well, then use Iron Tail!”
Direclaw Drake spewed a dark red draconic orb, but Scarclaw’s leap carried it clear. In midair, Scarclaw twisted and lashed its tail.
The tail, gleaming with metallic sheen, struck Direclaw’s head with a heavy blow.
At last, after expending so much draconic energy and suffering blow after brutal blow to its head, Direclaw Drake let out a mournful cry. The draconic energy in its mouth exploded, then sputtered out.
“Press the attack! Rending Claw!” Suyi clenched his fist in time with Scarclaw.
With a roar, Scarclaw Drake unleashed a devastating, rending strike with its bone-white claws.
The Rending Claw ignited all the festering wounds on Direclaw’s body—blood gushed in torrents, instantly drenching Direclaw’s head.
Howling in agony, Direclaw Drake turned and fled down the side of the plateau.
“Chase it! Don’t let it eat its meat stash and recover its draconic energy!” Suyi mounted Scarclaw Drake, while Dewgrass quickly clung to his back.
“Coral, the next fight isn’t for you. Go back for now—wait for my good news!” Suyi called to Coral, who still trembled from fear.
Coral nodded. “I understand! Wishing you victory!”
“Let’s go!”
Scarclaw Drake ran, nostrils flaring as it traced Direclaw’s scent.
On its back, Suyi sprinkled life dust on Scarclaw’s wounds, helping them heal.
“That’s the path we took here!” Dewgrass said, recognizing the familiar scenery.
“That claw mark!” Suyi recalled Direclaw Drake’s habits and suddenly understood.
“Direclaw marks the places where it hides its meat stash with claw marks—that’s where it keeps its meat!” Suyi analyzed.
Scarclaw Drake, moving swiftly and with Suyi’s makeshift healing, regained steadiness and speed.
But when they reached the marked spot, Direclaw Drake was nowhere to be found—only its tracks, leading toward the coral woods.
“What is Direclaw up to?” Suyi was baffled.
What could be over there?
Glidewing Drakes!
Could Direclaw be hunting? Yet it had meat to restore its draconic energy.
Puzzled, Suyi led Scarclaw Drake in pursuit.
Within the coral woods, Direclaw Drake searched frantically for its hidden meat stash.
When the search proved fruitless, it turned its gaze to the Glidewing Drakes fluttering among the coral trees.
