After finishing off Guihai Youde, Yang Tang felt he had rid the people of a pest. Little did he know that, for him, this act was somewhat superfluous.
The only fortunate thing was that because Guihai Youde died in the embassy district, five blocks away from the Matsui Building, no one suspected Yang Tang. He simply disguised himself as a building cleaner and slipped away unnoticed.
At midnight, Yang Tang took a taxi to Haneda Airport.
By now, Yang Tang had basically mastered the usage of the nameless ring’s storage compartments. The first compartment still held the Dark Gold coins, while the second and third compartments held two large bags: one for daily necessities and one for contraband, such as daggers, bows, arrows, and airsoft guns.
Of course, for easy access, the items in the large bags were subdivided into several smaller pouches. For instance, clothes were in one small pouch; two laptops were in another; the Qilin pendant and other transferred items were in a third, all kept within the second large bag. As for the third large bag, the largest pouch contained the airsoft gun and over a dozen mock magazines. The other smaller pouches held the crossbows, daggers, and even a real handgun and three magazines he had swiped from the human traffickers' estate.
In this way, Yang Tang had cleared out the fourth storage compartment for emergencies. Consequently, after exchanging his electronic ticket and passing through security, he had no luggage other than small items like his identification, phone, and keys. This naturally surprised the security officer, but after checking him three times, they still could not find any issues and had no choice but to let him pass.
Once inside the departure hall, Yang Tang found a corner to sit in and heard nearby passengers discussing the "Embassy District Dumping Incident."
Why was it called the "Dumping Incident"? Because there were both living and dead people involved; calling it the "Hostage Incident" or the "Living Dead Incident" didn't roll off the tongue as easily. Yang Tang could only chuckle at such an explanation. As an eyewitness to the entire event, he naturally had the most authority to speak on it, but he couldn't be bothered to waste breath on the surrounding passengers. Instead, he took out his phone and connected to the internet.
At the same time, major web portals, forums, and Yibo were flooded with news about the Tokyo embassy incident. Some accounts were so detailed it was as if the posters had been there themselves, paired with endless malicious speculation about how the Japanese were supposedly researching third-generation humanoid biochemical weapons. It opened Yang Tang’s eyes and made him struggle to suppress a laugh.
Whether the Japanese were actually researching biochemical weapons, Yang Tang didn't know; he only knew that, given the crude environment at the scene, such a possibility was unlikely. As for whether the Japanese were harboring sinister intentions in other deep, secluded forests, he couldn't guarantee.
At 1:00 AM, boarding began. Yang Tang successfully boarded his flight.
The aircraft engine preheating took longer than expected; it wasn't until around 1:40 AM that the plane taxied off the runway and into the night sky.
More than three hours later, the night flight landed smoothly at Shanghai Pudong Airport.
Fortunately, it was summer. Yang Tang bought a thin blanket nearby and found an empty spot in the airport lobby to sleep until he woke up at 7:00 AM. He then went to exchange his pre-booked electronic ticket for a direct flight to Wudu, passed through security quickly while clutching his blanket, and went back to sleep.
At 8:30 AM, the passenger plane to Wudu took off on schedule with Yang Tang on board. Three hours later, the flight landed safely at Wudu Jiangbei Airport.
Afterward, not wanting to deal with any more hassle, Yang Tang took a taxi straight to the old Wudu University campus.
When he arrived home, his parents were eating lunch. Yang Tang lied about not being hungry, took a shower, dried his hair, and returned to his room to continue sleeping.
At dinner time, Yang Tang took out the fund contracts he had bought for his parents and pushed them across the table.
"What is this?" Yang Jixue picked up the contracts and flipped through them. "Funds? Why are you buying this kind of stuff that's just throwing money into the street? And twenty million? Where did you get so much money?"
It took a lot of explanation for Yang Tang to calm his parents down. "Mom, Dad, your son isn't short on money now. If I'm not at home in the future and there's an emergency that requires money, help from afar won't solve an urgent need! So, I think you should keep these guaranteed fund contracts. With these, even if the bank tries to delay cashing them out, we can always take the contracts to a pawn shop and mortgage them for a million or two. That shouldn't be a problem, right? Besides, keeping the contracts on the bookshelf is much safer than keeping cash at home."
Seeing that Yang Tang had put it this way, his parents finally stopped refusing his good intentions and obediently put the contracts away.
"By the way, Xiao Hong, in the half-month you were away, Duan's admission notice arrived. It's for our Wudu University undergraduate program, though I suspect with his scores, he’ll only be assigned to the Mining Department!"
"Yibin’s scores just barely made the cut; it's good enough that he can get into Wudu University. Why? Does he have new ideas?" Yang Tang raised an eyebrow.
Mother Yang said, "The Duan family wants to invite us to dinner to thank us for our help and wants to ask if there's any way to transfer Xiao Duan to a relatively better major."
"Heh, they think quite highly of themselves!" Yang Tang laughed, unable to tell if it was praise or sarcasm. "By the way, Dad, has my notice arrived?"
"Soon. The admission list on the Beijing University official website is already up; you're on it! I believe the notice should arrive in the next few days." Before he could finish speaking, someone knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
Someone outside replied, "Express delivery for Yang Tang!"
Yang Tang exchanged a look with his parents and stood up to stop his mother, who was about to get up. "I'll get the door." He opened the door with caution, and it really was a courier.
"Yang Tang?"
"That's me."
"Your package, please sign for it!"
Yang Tang took the package, signed for it, and asked offhandedly, "What's inside?"
"I'm not sure. I'm just responsible for delivery; it should be some kind of contract!" The courier tore off the stub for Yang Tang and quickly left.
Yang Tang closed the door, found a pair of scissors, opened the package, and was instantly delighted.
"What is it?" Yang Jixue asked.
"Beijing University admission notice!" Yang Tang couldn't help but take it out and read, "Peking University Admission Notice, Registration Number [Number], Student Yang Tang, our school has decided to admit you to the Department of History, majoring in History. Please report to the school on September 2, 2000, with this notice."
"Great, great. Now I can finally rest easy," his father sighed.
Mother Yang was a little dissatisfied. "It's a pity this major is so poor. Why study history!"
Yang Tang quickly comforted her. "Mom, your son likes studying history. Besides, our family isn't short of money now, so what's wrong with studying history?"
Mother Yang was stunned for a moment and said, "That's true. With the Peking University name, maybe you can stay in Beijing to work after you graduate!"
"Then I'll buy a big house and bring you both over."
Just as Yang Tang was envisioning the future, far away in Tokyo, inside the secret research room of the Fukai Mansion:
Guihai Youde’s bullet-riddled corpse lay on the autopsy table. Two men in white coats examined it, but instead of using a scalpel, they shook their heads.
"Dr. Hiraya, is there a problem?"
"There's no need to examine this corpse. Not long ago, my assistant Nomura and I already autopsied over ten bodies with the same fatal wounds!"
"Hmm? Where did you autopsy them?"
"The Metropolitan Police Department morgue."
"Dr. Hiraya, are you referring to the 'Dumping Incident'?"
"Yes. The fatal gunshot wounds on those human traffickers are exactly the same as the ones on the body in front of us—all puncture wounds caused by airsoft pellets."
"Airsoft pellets?!"
Everyone in the Fukai Mansion was stunned.
After Hiraya and his assistant left, the person in charge, Okita, said, "Please keep the previous conversation absolutely confidential. The recording will be kept by me; no copies are allowed!"
"Hai."
Fifteen minutes later, in the Director's office.
"Okita-kun, why were you in such a hurry to see me?"
Okita immediately laid out the deaths of the human traffickers and Guihai Youde to Director Fukai Jushiro.
Originally, Guihai Youde was only a peripheral member of the Fukai Mansion. If he died, he died; it wouldn't hurt the Fukai Mansion's foundations. Before this, Fukai Jushiro hadn't known or cared about Guihai Youde's death. But the problem was, once Okita brought it up, Fukai immediately became alert. "Okita-kun, what is your opinion?"
"Aside from the identical gunshot wounds, there is no other connection between the death of the traffickers and Guihai's death," Okita analyzed. "On the surface, these two things don't seem to be related, but if the human trafficking group and Guihai-san both handled the same item, and an expert wanted to retrieve it, then it all makes sense."
"The same item? You mean intelligence!?"
"Hai, that is very likely, Director!"
"Then what kind of intelligence could it be?" Fukai Jushiro stroked his chin.
Okita said, "That would require checking the intelligence Guihai-san was responsible for delivering over the years."
Fukai Jushiro waved his hand. "Given Guihai's level, the intelligence our mansion had him carry might not attract the interest of an expert."
"Then, Director, what do you mean..."
"Isn't Guihai also a veteran business spy? Find a way to get the commercial intelligence he handled in the last three months and conduct an in-depth analysis to see if anything was missed."
"Hai, I will handle it immediately!"
