Yang Jixue also said, “Xiaohong, actually I’d like to go with you to Shenhai too, so you wouldn’t make mistakes your first time traveling far from home, but the problem is just as your mother said—we really can’t leave right now!”
Yang Tang replied naturally, “Don’t you have annual leave? If you work a few extra days during the winter or summer holidays, wouldn’t that make up for it?”
Yang Jixue waved his hand. “Annual leave isn’t that easy to get.”
“That’s not necessarily true!”
Hearing this, Yang Jixue raised his eyebrows. “Xiaohong, I’m starting to think you have this all planned. Don’t tell me you’ve already arranged our annual leave?”
“Not quite, but I believe if you submit your leave request now, it’ll be approved quickly!”
“Is it really that easy?”
“If you don’t believe me, try it.”
Yang’s parents were at a bit of a loss, but didn’t act immediately.
Knowing things were in motion, Yang Tang sent a text to He Jianni before heading out: “I’ve already talked my mom around, you don’t need to do anything else. Just help my parents get their annual leave approved!”
He Jianni replied quickly, “No problem, I’ll talk to your dad’s department and the publishing house right away.”
A little after ten in the morning, Yang Tang finished his last English exam and, not seeing He Jianni’s car across the street, planned to take the bus home.
He had only taken a few steps when the window of a golden niobium-colored, limited-edition Land Rover Defender rolled down. He Jianni waved at him. “Hey, Tangtang, over here!” Immediately, a few students at the school gate turned to look.
After getting into the front passenger seat, Yang Tang asked in surprise, “You changed your car again? How many is that now?”
He Jianni thought seriously as she started the engine. “Since you saved me, this should be the fifth car. But if you count from when I found you, it’s the fourth. The first one you saw was my npr, which I don’t drive often.”
Yang Tang rolled his eyes. “So that day in the bamboo grove you were driving too? How did you end up in the drainage ditch then?”
He Jianni turned onto the main road, glaring at him. “Just say I was punished for being too kind! That jerk flagged me down, said his girlfriend had an emergency and he couldn’t move her alone, so I foolishly went along.”
“Not bad, not bad. The fact you can talk about it now shows it doesn’t affect you anymore!” Yang Tang felt genuinely happy for her.
After all, some girls never recover from such trauma, even if nothing actually happened.
He Jianni shot him a glance. “Don’t try to comfort me. So, what’s our plan now?”
“Where’s your luggage?” Yang Tang asked.
“In the trunk.”
“And what about my parents’ leave?” he continued.
“Don’t worry, everything’s taken care of!” He Jianni replied, a bit exasperated. “I’ve also booked the train tickets and hotel, and even prepaid a few days so you’ll be covered until you get paid for your poetry at the Flower Festival.”
Hearing all this, Yang Tang was genuinely moved. “Jianni, why are you helping me so much?”
“You helped me too!” she said, her cheeks flushing.
“I was just being a good Samaritan, doing what anyone should,” Yang Tang replied solemnly.
“Idiot!” He Jianni muttered, then raised her voice. “You keep talking about this Lei Feng. Who is he? Is he really famous?”
Yang Tang pretended not to hear and changed the subject. “Since my parents’ leave is sorted, let’s go pick them up and head straight to the train station!”
“Got it!” He Jianni replied, but wouldn’t let it go. “But who is Lei Feng, really?”
Yang Tang: “…”
When Yang’s parents met He Jianni, they were dumbfounded for a long moment before recovering.
Yang’s mother, sensitive to matters between young men and women, quickly dragged Yang Tang into the kitchen for a stern interrogation. “Son, that girl is pretty, but she looks older than you. When did you two get together?”
“Get together? As if she’d look at me! She’s Principal He’s daughter!” Yang Tang’s reply immediately silenced his mother.
Later, when Yang’s father learned He Jianni’s identity, the couple let out a sigh of relief, realizing the He family was far out of their league.
But watching He Jianni bustling about, helping Yang Tang and them pack their luggage, Yang’s parents felt a bit confused—if she wasn’t his girlfriend, was she a lady butler?
Once everything was ready, Yang Tang grabbed his old laptop and the four of them piled into He Jianni’s Land Rover, heading straight for the North Train Station.
There, they were busy again—picking up tickets, checking in luggage, and finally passing security into the waiting hall.
Once seated, Yang’s mother voiced her concerns. “Old man, in just over two months, Xiaohong has his college entrance exams, and here we are traveling all the way to Shenhai? Isn’t this a bit absurd?”
Yang Jixue clearly had his own thoughts. “It’s not absurd at all. If Xiaohong suffers a bit outside, he’ll learn what the real world is like. Whether he ends up in a sponsored university program or the army, a little hardship now will make him wiser later.”
Meanwhile, Yang Tang and He Jianni were sitting off in a quiet corner, talking.
“Jianni, it’s two in the afternoon now. The bullet train to Shenhai takes about thirteen hours. Are you sure about the hotel you booked?”
“The Regal International in Xuhui. Three adjoining executive rooms, all with king-sized beds.”
“Oh, that hotel—I’ve actually stayed there twice before.” Yang Tang felt reassured, remembering his previous life.
He Jianni shot him a look. “Acting like you’ve really been there.”
Yang Tang: “…”
“Alright, alright. I booked the Regal International for a reason. My friend from my archery club lives near Xuhui. But she’s a proud one—ordinary folks don’t interest her, so don’t expect her to help unless you impress her.”
“Huh? Impress her how?” Yang Tang was baffled. “Wait, is it a woman or a man?”
“A woman, of course. She used to practice archery with me and even spent some time on the national B team,” He Jianni explained. “That’s why I shipped Su Shu’s black bow to Shenhai for you.”
Yang Tang couldn’t help but laugh. If it’s just about showing off archery, any toy bow would do! But then, thinking it over, he realized He Jianni meant well. Bringing a shabby bow to meet her friend would indeed be disrespectful.
Just then, the boarding announcement came over the loudspeakers: “Passengers bound for Shenhai, please note, your train 22…”
A small commotion broke out in the waiting hall.
The four gathered together again. Before Yang’s father could say anything, Yang Tang suggested, “Dad, let’s line up together when we board. You go first, I’ll bring up the rear.”
Yang Jixue looked at him in surprise, then nodded. “Alright, let’s do that.”
They passed through the ticket gates smoothly, found their seats, and Yang Tang quietly said to the others, “If you need the restroom, say so in advance and take someone with you.” He then sat across the aisle.
Yang’s mother frowned. “Is public safety really that bad?”
“It’s not about how bad it is. It’s just safer to look out for each other,” Yang Tang replied.
He Jianni’s seat was also by the aisle, next to Yang’s parents. She couldn’t resist teasing. “By your logic, no one should travel alone?”
“It’s fine for a grown man, but girls really shouldn’t, or they’ll end up sold off to Africa.”
“You’d be the one sold to Africa!”
“Only women!”
“Men.”
By the time the bullet train arrived at Hongqiao Station, it was nearly four in the morning—a time when, in fact, trains rarely run. Outside, except for a few touts hustling for business, there were hardly any cars in sight.
Yet He Jianni didn’t show the slightest concern. She sent a quick text on her phone.
Soon, a domestic Qilin SUV pulled up precisely in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing a striking face—porcelain fair with a hint of pink, finer than even the best Caucasian actresses, enhanced all the more by the black night and dark car. Her short hair emphasized her sharp, almost mixed-race features, lending her a crisp, decisive air.
Unfortunately, her expression was icy as she barely curled her lips at He Jianni, not even glancing at Yang Tang or his parents.
“Yuhua, what took you so long?” He Jianni grinned, though her words were a complaint. “By the way, this is Yang Tang, whom I told you about, and his parents!”
The short-haired beauty, Yuhua, gave no comment, turning on the interior light. “Get in. We’ll talk after you’ve had some sleep.” At that, the SUV’s trunk popped open.
Yang Tang said nothing more, quickly helping his parents load their luggage.
Once on the road, He Jianni formally introduced her friend. “Uncle Yang, Aunt Yang, this is my friend Fang Yuhua.”
Yang Jixue replied, “Thank you, Xiao Fang. It’s so late, and you still came to pick us up. We’re really grateful!”
Fang Yuhua merely responded with an indifferent “Mm,” driving as usual at a brisk pace.
With little traffic at this hour, they reached the hotel smoothly. What surprised Yang Tang, though, was that Fang Yuhua stayed in He Jianni’s room instead of leaving. But considering the executive suite had a king-sized bed, two women sharing wasn’t a big deal, so he didn’t think much of it.
Little did he know, inside that room, a scene of intoxicating intimacy was unfolding. The two women, fresh from the shower, entwined together in a serpentine embrace, their beauty dazzling to behold.
About half an hour later, Fang Yuhua, her skin beaded with sweat, gently covered the exhausted He Jianni with a sheet and whispered, “Nizi, your stamina seems worse than before.”
“It’s… it’s you who’s gotten stronger,” He Jianni replied shyly.
“Really?” Fang Yuhua snorted. “Then why are you flirting with men—no, with a boy younger than both of us?”
“No, Yuhua, Tangtang’s different from other men. Last time, I was almost—”
“I know, you told me. You were almost assaulted. And that man’s already getting what he deserves in prison—he can’t even fart now.”
