Chapter 122: The Traitor Revealed (II)
The lives of our brothers can only be repaid with the blood of our enemies. Let them know that the wrath of the Yi Sect is not something to be trifled with.
No one raised an objection. At this moment, everyone was eager to storm the Heng Hall. Those whose names had been called quickly departed from the meeting room. Everyone seemed to be anticipating the results of such a significant operation; if successful, the rewards would be immense, but if it failed, the Yi Sect would lose more than half of its top-tier strength.
"No one is to leave this meeting room. We will wait right here for Wang Xing and the others to bring back Tian Yi's head," Chen Erpao said coldly, his gaze sweeping over each person in turn. When his eyes fell upon Wan Hong, he paused for a brief moment.
Everyone present, with the exception of Wan Hong, was filled with anticipation for the outcome of the mission. Only he sat there restlessly, a flicker of anxiety barely concealed. If Tian Yi were truly assassinated, the already fragile Heng Hall would have neither the heart nor the strength to oppose the Yi Sect, and everything he had done would be in vain.
"This won't do. I must find a way to notify the Heng Hall. If I can get them to prepare in advance, not only could they avoid losses, but they might even be able to strike back at the Yi Sect once more, bringing the strength of both sides back to an equilibrium," Wan Hong thought to himself. He clenched his hands tightly. After glancing at Chen Erpao, he spoke softly, "I need to use the restroom. I don't know what I've eaten these past few days, but I keep having to go."
There was a restroom inside the spacious meeting room, so he did not need to leave the premises. Thus, he had not technically violated the order, and no one found it inappropriate—except for Chen Erpao, who wore a faint, imperceptible smile.
Once in the restroom, Wan Hong felt a weight lift. He immediately turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on his face several times to calm his nerves. He then quickly took out his phone; he dared not make a call, so he chose to send a text message instead.
Inside the meeting room, Chen Erpao smiled coldly as he looked at a laptop that had appeared before him. On the screen, the image of a man in the restroom hurriedly typing on his phone was clearly visible.
"I hope it isn't you," Chen Erpao muttered, as if trying to comfort himself. In an instant, he sprang from his chair and rushed forward. To him, the wooden door of the restroom was as fragile as paper, offering no resistance.
Wan Hong was drenched in a cold sweat, shocked by this sudden turn of events. Everything was unexpected and unbelievable. However, he regained his composure in a split second and immediately deleted the message that had not yet fully sent.
With the speed of a thunderbolt, Chen Erpao snatched the phone away. Only two characters remained on the screen, revealing nothing, and the number he intended to send it to had no contact name.
Wan Hong forced himself to remain calm. "Brother Pao, what are you doing? Are you suspecting me? I was just trying to send a text to my girlfriend to say hello."
"If I have wronged you, I will personally apologize to you later. For now, you are going nowhere. Just sit obediently in the meeting room," Chen Erpao said calmly. He had anticipated this result; now, he would let the evidence reveal itself.
Many in the meeting room were still in shock, not understanding or expecting this scene to unfold, yet they seemed to have a vague inkling of what was happening.
Wan Hong walked out, helpless, cold sweat dripping down his face, his expression somber. Suddenly, the meeting room door opened. Wang Xing, Liu Huagang, and the others, who had already set off on their mission, all returned. Given the time, they shouldn't even have left the Lingnan area yet.
Chen Erpao remained expressionless. He picked up the phone and sent a message to the unsaved number: "Emergency situation. The Yi Sect has launched a reprisal and sent a large group of experts to assassinate Hall Master Tian Yi. Prepare yourselves."
The atmosphere in the meeting room turned deathly quiet and tense. No one spoke; everyone waited in silence.
One minute passed, then two... Wan Hong's face turned increasingly pale, like an ant being watched by a herd of elephants. After five minutes, the phone chimed. The unsaved number had finally replied.
"Received. Watch your own safety and act according to the situation."
Chen Erpao looked at the text. His heart was heavy with grief. The loss of eleven brothers was painful enough, but to find that a comrade who had fought by his side was actually an enemy mole was devastating. Although previous evidence had pointed to Wan Hong, only now, with ironclad proof, was the reality undeniable.
"Wan Hong, the Yi Sect has treated you well, yet you repay us with such venom. I had previously discovered that the deputy hall master of the Heng Hall's Blade Hall, Wan Cai, is your own brother, but I refused to believe it. Yet, here we are..."
The most furious person present was Liu Huagang. As the head of the Blood Hall, he had personally promoted Wan Hong to be his right-hand man. To think that he had harmed his own kin and betrayed his brothers—he was a spy carefully planted by the enemy. If he could let Yang Feng and the others die, perhaps he would be the next target for his own leader.
"Wan Hong, you beast! I’m going to kill you to avenge Yang Feng and our brothers!"
Roaring in fury, Liu Huagang raised his right hand, his palm transformed into a sharp blade, and struck toward Wan Hong's neck.
Wan Hong, paralyzed by fear, instinctively rolled away in a clumsy, desperate attempt to survive.
"Brother Pao, Brother Xing, Brother Gang, please spare me! I was wrong. I had no choice, I really had no choice. As long as you spare my life, I will leave Tuen Mun immediately and never return."
"You harmed your own brothers and betrayed your kin. How could I ever spare you? You know the punishments of the Justice Hall better than anyone, especially the consequences for these crimes. Hmph, if you reveal who your accomplice is, perhaps I will consider sparing you." Chen Erpao felt no pity now.
Wan Hong shook his head. "I can't say. I can't. If I talk, I'll die even more miserably. My entire family will be slaughtered."
"Very well. Not killing you would make it impossible to vent the hatred in my heart, impossible to appease the anger of our brothers, and impossible to face those who have died."
Every eye in the room was fixed on Wan Hong with anger, contempt, and disbelief. A man who had once sat with them, sharing life, death, and glory, was now revealed as the enemy who had betrayed them and brought disgrace upon the entire Yi Sect.
"Send him to the Justice Hall. Let him suffer every torture before he dies. Use his life to repay his debts, and his blood to offer a sacrifice."
Chen Erpao glanced coldly at the pleading Wan Hong and announced the price he would pay for his actions without a shred of hesitation.
"Fine! Death is death regardless—I'll take my chances!" Wan Hong’s eyes suddenly turned ruthless. Realizing there was no way out, he decided to fight to the death; perhaps there was still a sliver of hope.
