Chapter 107: Roll, Wasim!
"Charge!"
The man in the black trench coat leading the group pulled back his hat brim to reveal a fierce, menacing face. He waved his hand and barked the order.
The four men in trench coats drew sharp long knives, fanning out to surround Zhou Sen. Their pace quickened significantly.
Sensing movement behind him, Zhou Sen spun around. Seeing five men charging at him from a distance of just ten meters, he was startled and shouted, "Su Yun, get out of here!"
But at that very moment, the person calling himself "Su Yun" ripped off his scarf, revealing a man’s face. He clutched a sharp dagger and lunged forward, his expression twisted with malice as he drove the blade hard into Zhou Sen’s back.
*Damn it, Su Wenqing is truly ruthless. He wants me dead!*
Seeing this, cold sweat broke out all over Zhou Sen. If he hadn't been prepared, his life would have ended right here.
*Clink!*
The dagger struck Zhou Sen’s back, producing a dull sound as if it had hit wood.
The fake "Su Yun" paused, sensing something was wrong. Just as he was about to pull the dagger out to strike again, a pained Zhou Sen grabbed him, and the two tumbled to the snow-covered ground in a heap.
They began to wrestle in the snow.
The other five men rushed over, only to freeze in confusion at the sight. Two people were locked in a grapple; helping either side felt like a mistake. The four men with knives looked longingly at their leader, all asking the same question: *What now?*
Against six men, Zhou Sen knew he was no match. If he didn't hold out until Qin Lang arrived, he would be finished. He needed a human shield to stall for time, and this impostor was the perfect candidate.
He had let that knife strike his back on purpose, relying on the inner armor he wore underneath; otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to take such a risk. Once the assailant got close, Zhou Sen knew he could capitalize on the split-second of shock when the man realized the blade couldn't penetrate, grab him, and begin his performance.
Although his current body’s combat ability was pathetic, he had studied jujitsu with Old Man Anthony and practiced basic skills while in a theater troupe, so his body was quite flexible. Once he grabbed the man, he locked his legs around the opponent’s waist, threaded his arms under the opponent’s ribs, clasped his hands behind the man’s head, and began to roll.
"What are you standing there for? Go pull them apart!" The leader of the trench-coated men had never seen such a tactic. His experience was failing him, but his reflexes were quick. If he didn't separate them, his subordinate would likely be the first one to be taken out.
But would Zhou Sen let him have his way?
He continued to roll on the ground, denying the others any chance to get close, while shouting at the top of his lungs.
"Qin Lang, you bastard! If you don't come out now, I'm done for, and you won't have it any easier!"
The leader’s expression shifted in alarm upon hearing this. He scanned the surroundings, but seeing not a soul, he sneered, "Facing death, and you're still trying to bluff me?"
"Qin Lang, if you don't come out, and I survive this, I’m telling your brother that you have feelings for your sister-in-law!"
"Brother Sen, stop! Can't I just watch your performance for a little longer? Is it necessary to be that ruthless?" Qin Lang emerged from behind a snowdrift with a dark expression.
Over forty men appeared, surrounding the six would-be assassins in a tight circle. In addition to clubs and knives, some were armed with pistols. The dark muzzles were pointed directly at them, bullets already chambered.
"Old Four Guo, I didn't expect it to be you. Heh." As soon as Qin Lang appeared, he recognized the leader.
"Qin Lang, how could it be you?" Old Four Guo was shocked. He had never imagined he would run into Qin Lang here.
"Why couldn't it be me?" Qin Lang chuckled. "This is Xiaonan Garden, a public park, not your private family garden, Old Four Guo. If you can come here, why can't I?"
"Qin Lang, this is a grudge between me and this kid. Don't interfere," Old Four Guo said. He knew he was at a disadvantage, but he had Su Wenqing backing him; surely Qin Lang wouldn't be crazy enough to attack him now.
"Are you saying we should join forces to kill Zhou Sen, and then settle our own score?" Qin Lang gestured toward Zhou Sen, who had stood up from the ground, though he still gripped the fake "Su Yun" by the throat with one hand and had snatched the dagger away with the other.
After that bout of rolling, the fake "Su Yun" was disoriented and oxygen-deprived, his fighting strength reduced to next to nothing.
"That would naturally be for the best," Old Four Guo said, though his hands remained tense and guarded.
"Brother Sen, you heard him. How about this proposal?"
"You can try it, but I guarantee the one who regrets it will be you." Zhou Sen didn't entirely trust Qin Lang, either; these people were capable of anything. Of course, the possibility of Qin Lang teaming up with Su Wenqing’s men was slim, given they were already at each other's throats.
"Sorry, but we people in the underworld still have to follow a code of honor. Since I gave my word to Brother Sen, I can't break it. Otherwise, how would I, Qin Lang, stand tall in the Ice City?" Qin Lang was being deliberate; he simply didn't like Zhou Sen's attitude of taking him for granted.
"Qin Lang, you better think carefully. Do you want to make an enemy of Chairman Su for the sake of a kid like this?" Old Four Guo’s face changed drastically.
"He hasn't even become the chairman of the General Chamber of Commerce yet, and he's already calling himself chairman?" Qin Lang sneered. "How shameless."
"Qin Lang, how dare you insult our chairman!"
"I insulted him, so what?" Qin Lang replied defiantly. "Not only did I insult him, I want to beat him, too."
"Qin Lang, I've realized you must be lacking someone to talk to, chatting for this long. If you want to talk, come to me; I have plenty of time," Zhou Sen shouted. "Are you going to act or not?"
"You got it."
Qin Lang waved his hand, and his men took a step forward. Forty against five—the disparity in power was absolute.
"Qin Lang, are you really going to keep us here?" Old Four Guo’s face turned pale. The situation was clear: his side had neither the numbers nor the weapons to win. Especially with Qin Lang himself, who was known to be a ruthless character. The two Qin brothers, one a scholar and one a warrior, were both top-tier individuals. Old Four Guo didn't consider himself weak, but one couldn't fight off an army. While Qin Lang might not kill him, he would definitely be the one to suffer in a real fight.
"Old Four Guo, you understand the current situation. If you really want to fight me, I can't guarantee there won't be any casualties. But if you put down your weapons and surrender, I guarantee the safety of you and your men," Qin Lang said. Old Four Guo was one of Su Wenqing’s top lieutenants, a man who had done plenty of dirty work. He was a big fish, and a valuable one at that.
"Qin Lang, I believe you, but what about him?" Old Four Guo pointed at Zhou Sen.
"I have so many men, and he is just one person. Do you think that question even needs asking?" Qin Lang chuckled.
"Fine, I'll drop my weapons." After considering, Old Four Guo agreed.
Qin Lang smiled triumphantly. "That’s right. Old Four Guo, a wise man submits to circumstances. It wouldn't be good to have any casualties."
Old Four Guo, his four subordinates, and the fake "Su Yun" were all rounded up.
"Brother Sen, your skills were impressive, especially that rolling technique. It was truly admirable; I couldn't help but watch for a few extra seconds. Don't mind me," Qin Lang said, walking over and grinning at Zhou Sen.
"Many thanks, Second Young Master Qin. If you want to learn, I'll teach you for free." Zhou Sen took out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out, lit it with a match, and took a drag.
"I've captured these men. How should we dispose of them?"
"We must follow the rules. Find a place to interrogate them first. Since you promised not to kill them, we'll keep our word."
"Torture?"
"If he talks freely, he won't have to suffer. Isn't that the logic?" Zhou Sen asked.
"Makes sense. I have a hideout on River Island. How about we put them there?" Qin Lang suggested. "I guarantee Su Wenqing won't find them."
"Fine, do as you say. But keep Old Four Guo and his men separated, and interrogate them separately. And that fake 'Su Yun' too," Zhou Sen added.
"You're the police. Why don't you do it?"
"If I do everything, what are you going to do? Don't you know I'm a timid person?" Zhou Sen retorted.
"You, timid? Is that supposed to be a funny joke?"
"You think I dared to come alone without preparation? If that guy's knife had truly pierced my back, I would be dead right now instead of standing here talking to you..."
Before Zhou Sen could even finish his sentence, a sudden gunshot rang out. A bullet whistled toward his chest at high speed!
Zhou Sen was struck with inexplicable terror. There was no way to dodge a bullet moving at such velocity. He was hit square in the chest and fell backward, stiff as a board.
Qin Lang was terrified out of his wits. If Zhou Sen died right in front of him, he would be in deep trouble.
"Who?!"
Qin Lang drew his pistol and charged toward the direction of the shot, pulling the trigger repeatedly until he had emptied the entire magazine. His men also aimed and fired blindly in that direction.
Old Four Guo and the others were also shaken. An assassin appearing out of nowhere to kill Zhou Sen—wasn't that putting their own lives in danger too?
Qin Lang was furious. To kill someone right under his nose was the ultimate insult.
"Old Four Guo, speak! Who is it?"
Facing the chambered guns, Old Four Guo was also afraid. "Brother Qin Lang, although I came here to kill Zhou Sen, I didn't set up any snipers! If I were going to use guns, I wouldn't have been caught by you in the first place!"
Although this was a secluded park, a gunshot would inevitably alert the police or even the Japanese military police. That was why Old Four Guo and his men had chosen not to use firearms, despite the hassle.
"Qin Lang, be careful, don't let your gun go off..." Zhou Sen clutched his chest and sat up straight, his face as pale as paper.
"Zhou Sen, you're not dead?" Qin Lang turned back, his eyes bloodshot, looking at Zhou Sen in complete disbelief. He had seen the bullet strike Zhou Sen directly in the chest. How could he sit up and talk after being hit by a shot like that?
Zhou Sen pulled a circular copper plate from his neck—the very heart protector Bai Yulan had given him the night before. A bright yellow bullet casing was embedded in the upper-left edge of the plate, the metal torn open. If not for the thick layer of fine steel chainmail armor underneath, he would have been dead or at least severely wounded. Of course, he wasn't doing well; his chest throbbed with pain, and it felt as if his ribs were broken.
"Quick, clean up and let's go. The Japanese military police will be here soon."
