Chapter 133: Surveillance Point
Chapter 133 Surveillance Post
Leaving the Qian family villa, Bai Zeshao returned directly home. Just as he reached the entrance, he saw A-hai waiting for him.
"What is it? Why are you waiting for me at the door?" Bai Zeshao looked at A-hai in the darkness.
"Brother, didn't you ask me to follow behind you to see if anyone was trailing you? I didn't notice anything at first, but this afternoon when I came home to eat, I found something," A-hai said with a serious expression.
"Let's go, get inside first, and we'll talk about it in there," Bai Zeshao said upon hearing this.
"We can't go in. I'm afraid they might discover our conversation," A-hai glanced nervously around the surroundings.
"Aren't you being a bit too nervous? Could it be that these people are even wiretapping me?" Bai Zeshao said dismissively.
Wiretapping wasn't a simple matter; the investment in manpower and material resources was substantial, especially since it required a complete set of equipment.
"No, Brother, listen to me. Never mind, let's go to my place instead." A-hai, seeing Bai Zeshao's casual attitude, grew somewhat anxious and walked ahead toward his own house.
Once inside, Bai Zeshao asked, "Can you talk now? What on earth is going on?"
"Brother, you must know that small multi-story building at the entrance of our alley, right?" A-hai asked.
"I know it, but that building doesn't seem to have anyone living in it," Bai Zeshao nodded.
"Just today, two people dressed in black suddenly appeared on the balcony of that building, and each of them was holding a pair of binoculars," A-hai said solemnly.
"Binoculars," Bai Zeshao murmured, his brow furrowing deeply.
His mind flashed back to the distance between that small building and his own house; his home happened to be squarely under the surveillance of that building.
If that was the case, the other party only needed a pair of binoculars to monitor him, making personal tailing completely unnecessary.
Until this moment, Bai Zeshao finally understood why he hadn't noticed anyone following him today.
Thinking even deeper, Bai Zeshao couldn't help but feel a chill, because a single monitoring point was far from enough to track his whereabouts; it would take at least three points to cover it.
A-hai had only discovered one, and the rest would require his own verification.
However, although this kind of surveillance was relatively covert, it still had a very major flaw: it was rather inflexible.
To monitor a target in all directions, they would still need to deploy field operatives for personal tailing.
Generally speaking, such a combination of monitoring methods was rarely used due to the high cost, unless they had pinned down the target's movements with absolute precision.
"Brother, what should we do now? Should we take out that post?" A-hai asked directly, looking at the silent Bai Zeshao.
"Not yet. That would only alert the enemy. Let me check things out tomorrow first," Bai Zeshao shook his head.
"Brother, could those people have discovered your identity?" A-hai guessed aloud.
"Unlikely," Bai Zeshao mused for a moment. "Of course, we can't rule out the possibility that they really have discovered my identity, but instead of making a move, they are using me as bait to catch bigger fish."
"What should we do then? Brother, why don't you leave Ning City?" A-hai suggested somewhat panickedly.
"No need, it's not that serious." Bai Zeshao gently patted A-hai on the shoulder. "As for you, be careful lately. Don't contact me when there's nothing going on, and return to your usual daily routine. As for our morning training sessions, suspend them temporarily for this period, or you can train by yourself."
"I understand, Brother," A-hai nodded heavily.
Yet the worry in his eyes did not dissipate. Although Bai Zeshao spoke lightly, the precautions he was taking for A-hai's arrangements were so meticulous. A-hai wasn't stupid; from this, he could roughly deduce that this matter was probably far from simple.
The only thing he could do was to execute whatever Bai Zeshao instructed him to do well.
"Alright, get some rest yourself, and I'm heading back too. Remember what I told you." After offering a few more wordy instructions, Bai Zeshao left A-hai's house.
Back at home, Bai Zeshao immediately began an inspection. Even though there was nothing incriminating in his home, since the other party had already set up a surveillance post near his house, who could guarantee they hadn't installed a bug inside his residence?
Fortunately, the inspection yielded good results; no eavesdropping devices were found, which allowed Bai Zeshao to let out a sigh of relief.
Lying on his bed, Bai Zeshao wasn't asleep. Tomorrow was originally the scheduled meeting time between him and Secretary He, but now that he was under surveillance, he had no choice but to call it off. However, he believed that Sister Wang would definitely relay the news of Qian Yihai's promotion to Secretary He.
After all, personnel changes within the Special Service Office were matters that the underground organization in Ning City needed to monitor at all times. Moreover, given Secretary He's intelligence, she would certainly inquire about him indirectly from Sister Wang. Thus, even without a direct meetup, it wouldn't be an issue.
The next day.
Bai Zeshao went to work as usual. Although he hadn't slept well last night, his spirits were still quite high.
Passing by the small building at the alley entrance, Bai Zeshao glanced over casually, confirming A-hai's claim. Later, on his way walking to the Special Service Office, he also deliberately paid attention to locations suitable for surveillance.
He really did discover some clues. Just as he had thought last night, along the route from his home to the Special Service Office, apart from the surveillance post at the alley entrance building, there were two other monitoring posts.
Along this entire route, aside from a few limited blind spots, almost as long as someone stood at a surveillance post with binoculars, every move he made could be monitored.
To verify whether there were people personally tailing him, Bai Zeshao deliberately took a detour just before reaching the Special Service Office. Sure enough, before long, a middle-aged man followed closely behind.
Suppressing the urge to make a move, Bai Zeshao put in some effort to shake the person off before stepping into the Special Service Office.
No sooner had he walked in than he ran into Liu Xiaobing, who was hurrying outward. Bai Zeshao couldn't help but ask, "Xiaobing, heading out right at the start of the morning workday?"
"Yeah, my uncle sent me out to check on some leads," Liu Xiaobing replied evasively.
"Alright, then go ahead and get busy," Bai Zeshao said with a smile.
"I'm off," Liu Xiaobing dropped those words and drove away in a car.
Bai Zeshao watched the direction where the car disappeared, stunned for a moment, but didn't dwell on it as he turned and walked into the Special Service Office.
Entering his office, Bai Zeshao summoned Monkey as usual and inquired, "Any news today?"
"None, but Section Chief Qian has been promoted, and many people in our Special Service Office have sent gifts. Section Chief, did you send one?" Monkey said with a grin.
"Is that something you should be worrying about? Get out of here," Bai Zeshao rolled his eyes at Monkey and said.
"Fine, I'm heading out. Remember to call me if you need anything, Section Chief."
Left alone, Bai Zeshao began to ponder how to deal with those surveillance posts. No one liked being monitored, especially given his special identity; once something about him was discovered, it would spell absolute disaster for him.
The critical issue now was that he still didn't know which side these people belonged to.
