Chapter Thirty-Three: Abduction
Chapter Thirty-Three: Kidnapping
At this moment, though it was already late, there were still many police officers patrolling the streets. Particularly on Xin Yi Street, the patrols were even more frequent due to the recent accident—almost every ten minutes, a squad of police could be seen passing by.
After deftly avoiding the patrols, Bai Ze Shao slipped into No. 12 Xin Yi Street, but not before casting a glance at No. 11, which had already been sealed off.
Inside the secret chamber.
When Bai Ze Shao entered, he found Mr. Li unconscious. Over the past three days, his injuries had left him weak, unable to properly treat his wounds, and even his meals were mere scraps hastily consumed. By this morning, he could no longer endure and had finally passed out.
Bai Ze Shao hurried to Mr. Li’s side and propped him up, his heart burning with anxiety, yet there was little he could do. He couldn’t take Mr. Li to the hospital openly, nor could he seek out a doctor. Most critically, he didn’t even have any proper medicine.
This safe house had only some basic first-aid supplies, but Mr. Li’s wounds had clearly become infected. Now he was unconscious and burning with fever.
After wiping Mr. Li’s body with a cloth as best he could, Bai Ze Shao decided to take a risk—Mr. Li’s life could not wait any longer.
Ya Ren Hospital.
A little after ten o’clock at night, Bai Ze Shao and Ah Hai arrived. Ah Hai, unaware of the true purpose, asked in confusion, “Brother, are you sick?”
“No, we’re here to find a doctor. Is the rickshaw ready?” As Bai Ze Shao spoke, he saw Shen Guohua walking out of the hospital entrance. Turning his head, he murmured, “Time to act,” then slowly followed Shen Guohua from behind.
The two shadowed Shen Guohua all the way into a dark alley. Bai Ze Shao signaled Ah Hai with a glance and quickly rushed forward, knocking the unsuspecting Shen Guohua unconscious.
“Brother, you really are a pro from the Special Affairs Bureau—tracking and kidnapping, you’re a natural. A true expert,” Ah Hai said with admiration as he pulled the rickshaw aside and loaded the unconscious Shen Guohua.
But Ah Hai’s praise sounded less than pleasant to Bai Ze Shao, who rolled his eyes and cursed, “Get lost.”
He glanced at the silent surroundings before instructing Ah Hai to drive off. On the way, Bai Ze Shao reminded him, “Ah Hai, when we reach the destination, take the doctor inside. He’ll wake up soon. Cover your face, and whatever it takes, make sure he saves the person inside.”
“Got it, Brother. Don’t worry—I know how to threaten people. But… aren’t you coming in?” Ah Hai asked, puzzled.
“I’m not convenient to go in, but I’ll be right outside the room. If anything happens, come find me,” Bai Ze Shao replied, withholding the fact that he knew Shen Guohua.
When the rickshaw stopped at No. 12 Xin Yi Street, Ah Hai glanced at Bai Ze Shao in surprise, and at that moment Bai Ze Shao looked back. They exchanged a silent glance, then wordlessly supported Shen Guohua and carried him inside.
“The patient’s in the secret chamber. I won’t go in. When the doctor wakes up, watch him closely and make sure he saves the patient. Speak as little as possible,” Bai Ze Shao instructed as he opened the chamber door.
“I understand.”
Yes.
Ten minutes later, Shen Guohua slowly regained consciousness. Before he could take in his surroundings, a sudden chill pressed against his neck. Looking down, he saw a sharp dagger resting on his throat.
“Doctor, save him,” said Ah Hai, his face masked, as he pointed to Mr. Li lying nearby.
Shen Guohua took in the situation and realized he’d been kidnapped. It was clear these people weren’t from the Special Affairs Bureau or the Party Affairs Office—if they were, they could have brought their wounded openly to the hospital. That left only the Red Party or perhaps bandits. Given the large-scale raids of recent days, Shen Guohua guessed the kidnappers were most likely from the Red Party.
Having no political allegiance himself, Shen Guohua held little prejudice against the Red Party. After a brief pause, he said directly, “Alright, but I need to examine the patient first.”
Ah Hai put away the dagger but watched Shen Guohua’s every move. When Shen Guohua approached Mr. Li, he was startled. He hadn’t expected the injuries to be so severe.
A pale face, cracked lips, and the chest was covered in deep gouges left by iron brushes. Though the blood had clotted, infection had already set in, and a faint stench wafted through the air. The wounds were old, left untreated for far too long, making the sight even more disturbing.
If this were a hospital, with proper equipment and medicine, given enough time, these injuries could be healed—they were only external, after all.
But here, it was truly difficult.
“What’s wrong?” Ah Hai noticed Shen Guohua’s silence after examining Mr. Li’s wounds and frowned.
“I can save him, but there’s no antibiotics or proper medicine—only gauze and cotton swabs. It’s useless,” Shen Guohua replied.
“Wait here,” Ah Hai said, and left.
“What happened?” Bai Ze Shao asked when Ah Hai stepped out.
“Brother, the doctor inside needs antibiotics and medicine, but there’s none available.”
“All those supplies are watched by the Special Affairs Bureau now. Where am I supposed to get them?” Bai Ze Shao frowned in frustration, then said, “Listen, take some table salt inside. Let him use that. No matter what, he has to bring the patient back.”
“Understood,” Ah Hai replied with a sinister chuckle.
Inside the chamber, Shen Guohua looked at the salt Ah Hai handed him and shook his head in resignation. “I’ll try.”
“I don’t care how you do it—just save him,” Ah Hai insisted.
The conditions were harsh, but Shen Guohua’s medical skills were exceptional. He worked alone, sweating as he labored—unfortunately, there were no nurses to wipe his brow.
By the time Shen Guohua finished, it was already midnight. “Done. I’ve done all I can. The patient is extremely weak—he won’t wake until tomorrow at the earliest.”
“Are you sure?” Ah Hai asked, eyeing Mr. Li, now wrapped up like a giant dumpling, with suspicion.
“I’m sure,” Shen Guohua replied, nodding firmly.
Bang!
