“Ouch, it hurts so much! Damn Wang Feiyan, how dare she drug me!” Mu Qingxi rubbed her temple slowly, her eyes scanning the dim surroundings.

The light was faint but enough to see everything clearly. Spiderwebs stretched across the room, thick with dust, making the footprints on the floor stand out sharply in the weak light. Above hung a rickety chandelier, coated in a heavy layer of grime.

What kind of place was this? So much dust and a swaying, dilapidated light fixture—it looked like somewhere long abandoned and neglected.

Suddenly, voices came from outside.

“Wu Li, you said the medicine was fine. Why is Mu Qingxi still unconscious at noon?”

“Feiyan, don’t rush. Maybe the dosage was too high. Let’s go in and check.”

The clinking of chains followed. Mu Qingxi sneered coldly. She really hadn’t expected to be so cleverly trapped without realizing it. The most laughable part was that she had even saved the very person who set the trap for her and, after their encounter, had chosen to let it go.

Truly, patience only invites greater excess; retreat only emboldens cruelty.

Mu Qingxi looked at the dirt on her clothes. Her white cotton jacket was ruined, now a dull gray. They had been harsh, throwing her on the ground to lie there all night. Fortunately, she wore thick clothing; otherwise, she might have caught a cold.

“Oh, you’re awake? I was just about to kick you a few times to wake you up. Didn’t expect you to wake on your own! Well, that saves my feet from getting dirty, haha. Mu Qingxi, you look great now—so dark and filthy, it really pleases me!” Wang Feiyan stood before her, glaring down at her seated figure like a madwoman, shouting and cursing wildly.

When Wang Feiyan finished her rant and her arrogance subsided, Mu Qingxi remained seated, speaking calmly. “Wang Feiyan, you didn’t bring me here just to mock me, did you? If that’s all you wanted, then you really overestimate me.”

“Heh, Mu Qingxi, you do overestimate yourself. The reason I’ve come this far is because you pushed me here,” Wang Feiyan sneered.

Mu Qingxi hadn’t expected Wang Feiyan to think so highly of herself, placing Mu Qingxi in such a prominent position as her number one enemy.

Wang Feiyan stamped on the ground like a lunatic, cursing bitterly, her words soaked in sorrow and despair, heartbreaking to hear.

But Mu Qingxi, seated on the floor, felt nothing. It wasn’t that she lacked compassion for Wang Feiyan; she simply felt no pity for Wang Feiyan's self-pity and self-abandonment, nor for her willing descent into ruin.

She wasn’t a saint. Besides, she had always kept to herself, never initiating hostility with Wang Feiyan, nor forcing her into anything.

Wang Feiyan’s way of venting her anger on others and blaming them entirely for her faults was wrong. No decent person would stand by her.

Unfortunately, there were plenty who were not decent—Wu Li and Chen Yaping among them—helping her behave recklessly.

Mu Qingxi slowly rose, brushing the dirt from her clothes. She said to Wang Feiyan, “Wang Feiyan, you’re overthinking things. I never forced you. Every time it was you who came looking for me, you who provoked me first…”

Wang Feiyan looked back at Mu Qingxi, who was unnervingly calm, and sneered mockingly. It was unclear whether she was mocking herself or Mu Qingxi.

“Mu Qingxi, I never admit I’m wrong, because it’s always you who has wronged me.”

No sooner had Wang Feiyan finished shouting than she lunged at Mu Qingxi.
