Chapter 131: Disfigured
Even at this point, Mu Qingxi remained dazed and vacant, her face utterly expressionless. She paid no attention even to Bai Fanhao’s words. Earlier, he had told her, “Qingxi, I’ll hold them off in a moment. Run outside as soon as you can, and contact Old Hou once you’re out.”
After saying this, Bai Fanhao waited a long while without receiving any reply from Mu Qingxi. He turned to look at her and saw that she seemed completely stunned. Then he watched as she lightly touched her own face and stared at the blood on her fingers.
Bai Fanhao lowered Mu Qingxi from his back. Believing that the blood on her face was what had left her so dazed, he comforted her, saying, “Qingxi, the blood on your face is nothing. Once you get outside and wash it off, it’ll be clean.”
As he spoke, Bai Fanhao took out a wet tissue and reached to wipe her face. But the moment his hand touched her, Mu Qingxi let out a low cry of pain and immediately raised her hand, stopping it three centimeters from her face.
Only then did Bai Fanhao realize that something was wrong with her. He looked up at Wang Feiyan, who was standing on the third floor, a dark and menacing chill gathering in his eyes.
Wang Feiyan, standing above, felt her heart tremble beneath that glance. His gaze was so cold and sinister that it seemed to strike at her like a blade.
Looking at Mu Qingxi, Bai Fanhao more or less understood what had happened. It appeared that someone had hit her—and struck her directly in the face. His thoughts were in turmoil. He turned to Wang Feiyan and said coldly, “Wang Feiyan, you’d better pray that nothing happens to Qingxi. Otherwise, I’ll make you wish you were dead.”
Then he spoke to Mu Qingxi in a gentle, tender voice. “Qingxi, it’s all right. Lower your hand and let me take a look.”
Wang Feiyan had never heard him speak with such warmth and indulgence in all the years she had known him. It was impossible for her not to feel jealous. The fear she had felt moments earlier vanished instantly, replaced by overwhelming resentment and envy.
But Mu Qingxi remained unmoved. She still refused to lower her hand and slowly began backing away. At last, she looked toward Wang Feiyan upstairs. The hatred and resentment in her eyes shot toward Wang Feiyan in unison, startling the latter once more just as she had begun to recover.
Taking advantage of the moment, Bai Fanhao looked closely at Mu Qingxi’s face. Only then did he see the deep mark running across it, nearly as thick as a finger. The sight made his heart pound with terror. His expression changed drastically, and he roared, “What happened? How did it become like this?”
Wang Feiyan grew extremely nervous at his shout and stammered, “It—it—it’s just what you—you see…”
Bai Fanhao turned toward the burly fat man blocking the doorway and shouted furiously, “Get out of the way!”
The fat man’s flesh trembled with anger. Pointing at Bai Fanhao and Mu Qingxi, he said, “Don’t even think about leaving through here. I remember now—it was you. You, Bai Fanhao, were the one who sent me to prison. You won’t be walking out of here alive today.”
“You? Hah. You fat bastard, if you know what’s good for you, get out of the way. If I could send you to prison once, I can send you back a second time.”
Bai Fanhao knew this man was not someone to be taken lightly. No wonder he looked so fierce and vicious—he had actually served time in prison. Yet Bai Fanhao could not remember when he had sent him to prison before.
Regardless, it seemed they would not be leaving this place easily today.
“Is that so? Fine, then. Why don’t you trade blows with them first?”
The fat man waved his hand, and several men came down from upstairs.
Mu Qingxi still did not turn her head. She continued staring fixedly at Wang Feiyan above, making Wang Feiyan so uneasy that she could barely sit still. She edged closer to Wu Li, hoping to find comfort in him, but Wu Li ignored her completely.
