There were a few people at school whose lives had become quite chaotic. Guo Chen knew that Fan Hao hadn’t come home all night, and his aunt kept calling to ask about him. He had no choice but to lie, telling his aunt that Bai Fan Hao was staying at his place.

Late at night, Xi Haifei received a call, hearing that his close friend had been beaten—and not just a light scuffle, but seriously injured.

When Qin Yu ran into the two of them looking so anxious, he immediately asked what had happened. After Guo Chen and Xi Haifei explained, Qin Yu inquired about where the fight took place. The answer left him stunned and he cried out, “What?”

Xi Haifei and Guo Chen, seeing Qin Yu’s shocked expression, both asked, “What’s wrong?”

“That’s right where Mu Mu’s house is, the very path she takes,” Qin Yu hurriedly replied.

Xi Haifei’s heart sank at this, because last night he’d seen Mu Qingxi alone in the classroom and had waited outside for her. He didn’t expect Bai Fan Hao to enter the classroom and then walk her home.

So, last night, Xi Haifei had returned to his apartment feeling dejected.

Suddenly recalling what Guo Chen had just said—that Bai Fan Hao hadn’t been home all night—his expression grew grave. “We need to find them immediately. Something might have happened to them.”

Qin Yu and Guo Chen were both taken aback. Qin Yu quickly asked, “How could something have happened?”

Xi Haifei strode quickly ahead, explaining to the jogging Qin Yu and the briskly walking Guo Chen, “Just trust me. Qin Yu, you lead the way. We need to find them both—there’s a chance they were involved in the fight last night.”

The three hurried along, their faces etched with worry. Qin Yu nervously rubbed his hands together, his face full of anxiety, muttering—perhaps to himself, perhaps to the others—“They’re alright, right? Yes, they must be alright.”

Xi Haifei’s expression was clouded, cursing silently. Not only had his friend been beaten, but now there was trouble involving those two as well—damn it.

Seeing how anxious Qin Yu was, Guo Chen tried to reassure him. “Don’t worry, they’ll be fine. With Fan Hao’s skills, nothing could have happened to them.”

Just as they reached the school gates, Mu Qingxi and Bai Fan Hao saw the three of them hurrying out. Mu Qingxi called out, “Rushing around so early in the morning—where are you all off to?”

Hearing her voice, the three stopped to look. When they saw the two standing before them, they were momentarily stunned. What was this? The two of them appearing together at the gates?

It wasn’t just their imaginations—the two of them indeed looked odd, and their clothes were quite unusual.

Qin Yu, still anxious, blurted, “Are you guys alright?”

Mu Qingxi and Bai Fan Hao exchanged a glance. Bai Fan Hao replied, “What’s wrong?”

Qin Yu stood beside Mu Qingxi, looking at Bai Fan Hao. “Thank goodness you’re alright.” He turned to Mu Qingxi, “Mu Mu, didn’t you know? There was a fight last night in the little grove by your house. I was worried something happened to you.”

Mu Qingxi looked at Qin Yu and said, “If something had happened, would I be standing here in front of you now?”

Qin Yu glanced at Guo Chen and Xi Haifei. “See? One of you said Fan Hao was out all night, the other thought you might have gotten into trouble—you nearly gave me a heart attack.”

Mu Qingxi glanced at Xi Haifei, whose expression remained calm. When he noticed her looking, he offered a faint smile. “It’s nothing. Let’s go—the exams are about to start.”

As the five of them walked into the school, they drew attention. Each of them was a well-known figure, and their collective presence was like a magnet for curious gazes. Especially when Mu Qingxi and Bai Fan Hao appeared together, whispers buzzed among their classmates. Fame always brought both admiration and animosity, and some students couldn’t resist gossiping or casting sidelong glances—just as they were now.

After all, it was unusual to see these five together, and the pairings seemed oddly matched.

Amidst the murmurs, only Qin Yu seemed uneasy about the stares and whispers. The other four had long since grown accustomed to such attention and felt nothing at all.
