Chapter 110: A Genius
Mu Qingxi was feeling thoroughly frustrated at this moment. Could he not answer questions so promptly? If she didn’t know that Qin Yu was leaning against her, asleep, she would have thought he was earnestly paying attention to the lesson! Standing and sleeping—this was not something an ordinary person could accomplish. Poor Master Kong, thinking that Qin Yu’s nodding off and muttering in his dreams meant he agreed with his points.
Xi Haifei glanced at Mu Qingxi’s conflicted expression, puzzled by the situation. Was the homeroom teacher’s speech really so hard to accept?
Afterward, Mu Qingxi half-supported the drowsy Qin Yu as Master Kong droned on about the classics. Qin Yu, still like a god of sleep, slumbered deeply, only occasionally nodding at the right moments and responding with a single word, always right on cue.
It felt like ages passed—an eternity.
“Ring, ring, ring…”
That was the bell signaling the end of the second period, wasn’t it? Inwardly, Mu Qingxi screamed, “Oh heavens, please, strike me with lightning and let me disappear from here!”
Prayer does have its power, for she soon heard the pleasant voice of Master Kong reach her ears: “Alright, listen carefully next period, and don’t be late again.”
Just as he finished speaking, and she was about to wake Qin Yu so they could leave, she felt the weight leaning on her suddenly lighten. Turning her head, she saw that Qin Yu was already awake, standing perfectly straight.
She wanted to voice her surprise, but managed to hold it in. She was truly curious—had Qin Yu really been asleep?
Why, the moment Master Kong said they could leave, did he react even faster than she did? Was he really asleep?
Once outside the office, Mu Qingxi asked Qin Yu, “Weiyu, were you really sleeping?”
She watched Qin Yu raise his left hand to stifle a yawn, replying lazily, “Weiyu, you’d better tell me the truth!”
Qin Yu pursed his lips, widened his eyes, and nodded, “Mhm, really, Mumu, I’m not lying to you. I was really asleep.”
“Then why, the moment the teacher said we could go, did you respond so quickly?” Mu Qingxi still couldn’t figure out what was going on with Qin Yu.
“I was half-asleep anyway. When I heard the teacher say this and that, I just nodded along. Then just now, I heard the bell ring and my neck felt stiff, so I figured it was time to get up. Who knew that just as I planned to stand, the teacher wrapped things up, so I moved quickly.” Qin Yu explained at a leisurely pace, still wearing an expression of fatigue.
Xi Haifei, walking behind and listening to the two girls’ conversation, was genuinely at a loss for words. Who would have thought these two girls could be so entertaining?
No wonder Mu Qingxi’s face was full of vexation when Qin Yu answered “yes”—so that was why! One could sleep while standing, a true prodigy, and right under the nose of the homeroom teacher without being noticed. The other was so absent-minded she only snapped back to attention at the end. What a pair of wonders!
Back in the classroom, Mu Qingxi collapsed onto her desk, trying to stretch her back. She’d been standing for a whole hour and a half, even bearing some of Qin Yu’s weight during that time.
“Ow!” Mu Qingxi reached back to rub her waist, feeling sore and achy.
Seeing her discomfort, Qin Yu reached out, half-clenching her fist to gently massage Mu Qingxi’s lower back, saying as she did so, “Mumu, I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be in so much pain.”
“You’re right. If I didn’t have to bear your weight, I could have slacked off a bit and wouldn’t be hurting this much. So hurry up and keep massaging,” Mu Qingxi murmured, eyes half-closed, enjoying Qin Yu’s gentle kneading and smiling faintly.
Though her words sounded accusatory, there wasn’t a trace of real complaint—she just wanted an excuse for Qin Yu to give her a massage. After all, trying to massage her own lower back was such a tiring task.
