Chapter 29: The God of Wealth Arrives in Showbiz (29)
“What are you doing?!” A shrill voice rang out. Jiang Youyou slowly rose to her feet, gazing at Jiang Niannian, who stood pale-faced at the office door. The smile at the corner of her lips deepened. “In broad daylight, what do you suppose we could possibly be doing, sister?”
Fang Jinnian, seeing Jiang Niannian, instinctively wanted to explain, but when he caught the unmistakable distrust in her eyes, the words died on his lips.
“Is this how you repay me?” Jiang Niannian flung her assistant’s hand aside, her insulated lunch box clattering to the floor. Tears spilled from her eyes.
“How could you not believe us, sister?” Jiang Youyou looked innocent, her lips curled into a smile. “We truly are blameless!” She turned to Fang Jinnian with a half-smile. “Had I known my sister would come, I wouldn’t have come myself. Jinnian, I’ll take my leave~” The way she called his name made even Naiqi, the intangible system, shudder with irritation.
Fang Jinnian’s expression was as if he’d swallowed poison, while Jiang Niannian seemed about to faint from rage, swaying as if she might collapse. Her hand reached out, ready to launch a battle with Jiang Youyou, hatred blazing in her eyes, as though she wished to tear her apart.
“Enough!” Fang Jinnian barked coldly. “Look at what you’ve become!”
“What?” Jiang Niannian froze mid-stride, not even touching Jiang Youyou’s clothes. Her voice trembled, tears falling. “Fang Jinnian, are you disgusted by me now?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Fang Jinnian frowned instinctively seeing her tears, wanting to explain but unable to form the words. In the end, he managed only, “Take her home.”
Jiang Youyou left with flair, pleased as ever to disrupt the tempestuous pair.
From that moment on, Fang Jinnian and Jiang Niannian entered a prolonged cold war. Exhausted, Fang Jinnian returned home only to face his lover’s biting sarcasm and ridicule. At first, he endured it with patience, but as time wore on, he simply stopped returning altogether.
After all, in Fang Jinnian’s mind, given enough time, Jiang Niannian would come to her senses. Jiang Niannian had only him left, didn’t she? He forgot one thing: the existence of the troublemaker Jiang Youyou.
Thus, Jiang Niannian once again decided to run away from home. Without a word, she headed to the airport, but fate intervened—a car accident occurred en route. By the time Fang Jinnian abandoned a conference room full of shareholders and rushed to the scene, Jiang Niannian was unconscious.
She was sent to the hospital, but because her lower body had been trapped for too long, she faced the risk of amputation.
“Fix her! No matter the cost!” Fang Jinnian’s eyes were bloodshot as he glared fiercely at those around him. “If you can’t save her, you’ll all be buried with her!”
The doctor: …
He hadn’t said she couldn’t be saved—only that amputation might be necessary. Did this man not understand human speech?
“We’ll do our best,” the doctor finally managed, his expression grim. After all, dealing with a hysterical family member not only delayed treatment but soured everyone’s mood.
“Did you do this?” Naiqi asked, puzzled.
“What are you talking about?” Jiang Youyou retorted without a second thought. “Am I really so heartless and cruel?”
Naiqi: …
No need to pretend in front of me, right? I’ve seen you at your worst—this is nothing…
That night.
Jiang Youyou appeared in the hospital room of the car accident’s driver. The room was silent, save for the machines beeping softly. She stepped forward, placing her hand gently on the man’s bandaged head. A soft white light seeped into his mind.
Naiqi watched, unsurprised.
His host—cruel and kind in equal measure, a contradiction incarnate.
As for Fang Jinnian, because Jiang Niannian remained unconscious, he stayed at her bedside, refusing to leave, as if possessed. Anyone who saw him would think him devoted and unwavering in his love.
Jiang Youyou: Ah, what a love that moves heaven and earth~
