[Hatred value increased by ten!]

Returning to the Jiang family home.

Jiang Youyou enjoyed a relaxing bath and then drifted into a sweet sleep.

The next morning, as dawn broke, Jiang Nantian, who had originally been on a business trip, appeared in the breakfast room. Seeing his sleepy-eyed precious daughter, he suppressed his fatigue and summoned a smile, waving her over. “Youyou, come have breakfast.”

“Dad, why are you back?” Jiang Youyou, cheerful after a good night’s rest, was in much better spirits. Seeing her father, who devoted his whole heart to his daughter, she was willing to play along and act like the original Jiang Youyou.

“The work over there finished, so I naturally came back,” Jiang Nantian replied, eyes twinkling with indulgent affection for his daughter.

Yet the exhaustion in his gaze did not escape Jiang Youyou’s notice.

“Did something happen at the company?” Jiang Youyou pulled out a chair and sat down.

“Since when do you care about these things?” Jiang Nantian peered at her. “What’s this? Has my precious daughter finally decided to give up on that entertainment industry nonsense and come home to inherit the family business?”

“Not a chance.” At these words, Jiang Youyou immediately shook her head and waved her hands in refusal, her attitude so comical that Jiang Nantian couldn’t help but laugh.

“Hurry and eat. It won’t taste good once it’s cold.” Jiang Nantian changed the subject, pushing a glass of warm milk toward her.

Breakfast ended in a warm and cozy atmosphere. Jiang Nantian finished his meal and hurriedly departed.

From his words earlier, it wasn’t hard to tell that something had indeed gone wrong with the Jiang family company.

Jiang Nantian, however, wanted to keep it from Jiang Youyou, this daughter whose heart and mind were filled only with Fang Jinnian and her dreams of the entertainment world.

If he wished to keep it from her, then it must have something to do with Fang Jinnian.

Because Jiang Youyou liked Fang Jinnian, and with the engagement between their families, Jiang Nantian had often extended favors to the Fang family, directly elevating them from a third-rate family to a first-rate one.

Originally, the engagement between the Jiangs and the Fangs was nothing more than a joke made by their grandmothers, who had been the best of friends. Neither family took it seriously; after all, marriage is a serious matter that should be left to the two children involved.

Who would have thought that once the grandmothers were gone and it was left to the parents’ generation, the Jiang family would soar to new heights thanks to Jiang Nantian.

They secured several major projects, and with Jiang Youyou’s mother, Wang Wan, being well-connected and respected among the society ladies, the couple complemented each other perfectly. In less than two years, they had firmly established the Jiangs among the first-tier families.

The Fang family, on the other hand, was a stark contrast. Fang Jinnian’s father was irresponsible, a lover of wine and women; the fact that he hadn’t squandered the family business entirely was a miracle. His affairs and indiscretions were endless, and the Fangs’ position among even the third-rate families became precarious.

This state continued until Fang Jinnian turned eighteen.

When the Fang family faced a financial crisis, Fang Jinnian brought up the engagement to his father.

Fang Zhong, ever eager, immediately sought out Jiang Nantian.

The Jiangs valued their promises, but Jiang Nantian, mindful of his daughter’s happiness, was reluctant to agree hastily. He planned to ask Jiang Youyou’s opinion, only to discover that the engagement proposal was for his eldest daughter, Jiang Niannian.

Later, Jiang Nantian found Jiang Niannian to discuss the matter privately. At that time, Fang Jinnian and Jiang Niannian were already entangled in ambiguity at school, so neither objected.

But as the Fang family gradually revived with the Jiangs’ help, Jiang Youyou, spending more time with Fang Jinnian, developed feelings for her prospective brother-in-law. Coincidentally, Jiang Niannian and Fang Jinnian had a falling out, and on the eve of their engagement, Jiang Niannian left, heartbroken, for a foreign land.

And so, the engagement fell to Jiang Youyou.

First, Jiang Youyou was willing; second, the Jiangs felt somewhat responsible; third, the two families had major projects in cooperation at the time.
