Chapter 30: The God of Wealth Arrives in the Entertainment Industry (30)
On the very day Jiang Niannian was involved in the car accident, Fang Ci unintentionally fell ill and appeared before other members of the Fang family. During the days when Fang Jinnian stayed by Jiang Niannian’s side, Fang Ci met with the rest of the family with a polite and modest demeanor.
News spread quickly. The shareholders of the Fang Corporation soon learned of Fang Ci’s appearance. With the covert support of Jiang Youyou and Nan Yan, the shareholders developed a favorable impression of this courteous and intelligent young man.
The moon hung bright amid sparse stars.
On the hospital bed, the patient’s eyelashes fluttered. After a week in a coma, Jiang Niannian slowly awoke. She instinctively tried to move, only to find an emptiness below her waist. Recalling what happened before she lost consciousness, her entire body stiffened. After a moment, as if gathering all her courage, she lifted the blanket. Staring at her missing right foot, she let out a sharp, piercing scream.
That night, the hospital was destined to be a whirlwind of activity.
Leaning on crutches and her freshly bandaged wound, the heroine tried to slip out of the hospital. When she was found, she had collapsed at the bottom of the stairs, barely conscious. The domineering Fang Jinnian flew into a frenzy once again, and it wasn’t until dawn that the exhausted medical staff could finally rest.
Jiang Niannian blamed the loss of her leg on Fang Jinnian. Another round of cold sarcasm and bitter words ensued. After their familiar cycle of sharp retorts and cutting remarks, Fang Jinnian, seething with anger, turned and left.
When he returned to the company and saw Fang Ci in a suit, cheerfully calling him “brother,” the exhaustion in his eyes instantly hardened into a chilling severity.
Having lost her leg, Jiang Niannian spiraled into despair, her grief consuming her regardless of the setting. She refused to cooperate with her doctors, obsessed with escaping, and her wound, instead of healing, became at risk of infection.
Fang Jinnian wanted to drive Fang Ci out of the Fang Corporation, but he couldn’t stop worrying about Jiang Niannian in the hospital. At the same time, he had to watch out for Fang Ci, for Jiang Youyou’s unpredictable appearances, and for the business rival led by Nan Yan. He struggled in the marketplace, ran to the hospital after work, and faced the increasingly unstable Jiang Niannian, his heart growing only more weary.
A man can only do so much. The burden became too great, and, venting his frustrations on his subordinates, Fang Jinnian gradually lost his absolute authority within the company.
After all, who would prefer a president quick to anger and harsh words when there was a gentle, modest, and courteous younger brother? Naturally, the staff gravitated toward the latter.
In secret, Fang Ci won over the shareholders one by one—sometimes with force, sometimes with reason—and with Nan Yan’s financial support behind him, the majority of the Fang family’s shares soon fell into Fang Ci’s hands. Fang Jinnian lost all power within the Fang Corporation.
Trying to turn the tables, Fang Jinnian found every escape route cut off by Fang Ci. With no other choice, he could only leave for another place, taking the despairing Jiang Niannian with him.
By the time Fang Jinnian settled Jiang Niannian and prepared for a comeback, the Fang family had undergone a complete transformation. Fang Father had died unexpectedly, Fang Mother had lost her mind and was committed to an asylum, and the rest of the family didn’t even dare to face Fang Jinnian. It was clear just how ruthless the new president could be.
What was thought to be a harmless rabbit turned out to be a wolf.
Sitting on a swing, Jiang Youyou watched the two figures ahead, whispering intimately, and couldn’t help but be surprised.
Those two wasted no time in forming an alliance.
Both of them were truly ruthless.
“Host, the resentment is fading fast,” Naiqi remarked, noticing the black mist floating beside the host had calmed and was even beginning to dissipate.
Jiang Youyou cast a casual glance at it and said nothing.
It seemed the time had come to assert her presence again in front of the hero and heroine.
With Nan Yan and Fang Ci working hand in hand, Fang Jinnian found himself with nowhere to turn. Any hope of making a comeback was dashed—soon he would be too poor to afford even a meal. Former friends who genuinely wanted to help him either ended up under house arrest or sent abroad.
