In the military camp of the Qingfeng Kingdom, the house where Wei Xiaoping stayed was built alone, about a hundred or two hundred meters away from the barracks. On either side were other houses where Huang Xianlin, other deputy generals and martial officers, and some individuals of higher rank than ordinary soldiers lived. The houses were constructed with green bricks and azure tiles.

Inside Wei Xiaoping’s room, Master Xuanwu and the beast Da Huang stood guard, never leaving his side. Since Master Xuanzhe and the Qilin Divine Beast had departed, Master Xuanwu and Da Huang had not once left Wei Xiaoping’s side.

Especially Da Huang, who watched his master lying on the bed with a thick bandage wrapped around his chest, expressionless. In his heart, Da Huang felt an unbearable pain and sorrow. He paced back and forth by his master's bedside, eyes filled with grief, occasionally emitting low, barely audible growls. These low growls were so faint that only Da Huang could perceive them; even Master Xuanwu, who possessed a high level of cultivation in the immortal path, seemed unaware of these sounds.

Those growls carried an indescribable sadness.

Shortly after Master Xuanzhe’s departure, to help his nephew apprentice Xiaoping recover quickly, Master Xuanwu placed his left hand gently on Wei Xiaoping’s right hand, then activated his dantian to channel a portion of his true essence into Wei Xiaoping’s body. Although Wei Xiaoping could not wake up immediately, this would at least accelerate his healing somewhat.

Seeing this, Da Huang opened his mouth and tightly bit down on Master Xuanwu’s other hand.

Master Xuanwu said, “Da Huang, what are you doing? I’m transferring true energy to your master to help him recover sooner. I am not harming him! Let go of my hand!”

Da Huang loosened his mouth slightly, then pointed first to his own belly and then to Wei Xiaoping.

Master Xuanwu, puzzled by the gesture, said, “What do you mean by that? Could you be clearer with your actions?”

Da Huang then bit down again on Master Xuanwu’s right hand and exerted pressure with his belly. A warm flow passed from Da Huang’s mouth to Master Xuanwu’s hand.

Instantly, Master Xuanwu felt a gentle warmth travel from his fingers throughout his body, a sensation both comfortable and soothing.

Withdrawing his hand, Master Xuanwu said, “You mean you want to transfer your own true energy to Xiaoping as well?”

Da Huang let out a few low howls and nodded repeatedly about ten times.

Master Xuanwu said, “Hmm, I had forgotten! When Xiaoping brought you back, you two had a close bond, often practicing martial and immortal arts together. Xiaoping even transferred his own true essence to you to help you improve your foundation quickly, and your cultivation indeed advanced rapidly. Da Huang, you have a very good master, you know? It’s only right that you repay him by transferring true energy to him now. His injuries are severe; you should have started giving him some of your energy on the way back. Delaying until now has only worsened his condition.”

Da Huang shook his head quickly a few times, then nodded several times.

Master Xuanwu asked, “You’re shaking your head and nodding—what does that mean?”

Da Huang bit down on Wei Xiaoping’s hand, mimicked transferring energy, then made a fearful and startled expression.

Master Xuanwu looked at Da Huang suspiciously and said, “You want to transfer true energy to Xiaoping but are afraid your energy might not match his constitution, right?”

Da Huang licked Master Xuanwu’s hand with a somewhat pleased expression, then bit down again, mimicked transferring energy, and mischievously looked at Master Xuanwu with a doubtful expression.

Master Xuanwu seemed to understand and said, “So you mean, you want to first transfer your energy to me as a test. If my body shows no adverse reaction, then you’ll give it to Xiaoping, right?”

Da Huang looked apologetic and nodded.

Seeing Da Huang’s guilty nod, Master Xuanwu thought, “This Da Huang is truly a filial beast. So careful and loyal to his master—it’s rare indeed!” He then recalled the Qilin Divine Beast he had once saved and given to Huang Xianlin as a mount. When he first brought back the Qilin, it was very friendly toward him, and he had good feelings about it. But after Huang Xianlin became its master, the Qilin stuck to Huang like an old friend, and Huang loved the beast as if it were a treasured pet he had raised for years. Seeing the deep bond between his beloved apprentice and the Qilin, Master Xuanwu had no heart to keep the beast and thus parted with it.

Patting Da Huang’s head, Master Xuanwu said, “You are truly a thoughtful and filial beast. I’m his senior uncle and hadn’t considered this! But, oh dear! You want to use me, your elder, as a test subject to save your master? Aren’t you afraid something might happen to me?” He pretended to be upset.

Da Huang lowered his head in shame, then shook it a few times and licked Master Xuanwu’s hand.

Master Xuanwu laughed heartily and said, “Da Huang, I was joking! I didn’t think you’d take it seriously! Let me transfer my true energy to Xiaoping first, then you can test on me. If I have a problem now, then I won’t be able to help Xiaoping either!”

As he spoke, Master Xuanwu made a few empty motions with his right hand, then placed his left hand on Xiaoping’s right hand and began channeling true energy into it.

Da Huang listened thoughtfully and agreed it made sense. He admired Master Xuanwu’s thoroughness, thinking, “He’s just as clever as me!” Feeling proud, he quickly shook his head, thinking, “How could I compare myself to Master Xuanwu? That would be too disrespectful!”

Da Huang watched Master Xuanwu transfer energy to Wei Xiaoping.

Master Xuanwu’s eyes were unusually serious as he stared at Wei Xiaoping. His mouth was tightly closed as he held his breath. Then his right hand’s index and middle fingers moved together along his left arm, passing through the air, then touched Wei Xiaoping’s palm before retracting.

Soon, a stream of faint, finger-sized ethereal light shot along Master Xuanwu’s left arm toward Wei Xiaoping’s fingers, accompanied by a soft hissing sound.

Da Huang knew the sound was the true energy emitted by Master Xuanwu.

Usually, when ordinary experts transfer energy, the qi is not pure or dense enough, so the flow is slow and silent. Only when the true energy is sufficiently pure and vigorous does it produce sound.

Seeing Master Xuanwu transfer such pure and powerful energy to Wei Xiaoping, who was not even his own disciple, Da Huang couldn’t help but admire him. When one person transfers true energy to another, the recipient benefits, but the donor usually suffers some physical loss.

After about fifteen minutes, Master Xuanwu withdrew his hand.

Da Huang leaned over to look at Wei Xiaoping. A quarter of an hour earlier, Wei Xiaoping’s face had been pale; now, a faint flush of color appeared on his cheeks.

Master Xuanwu also looked closely at Wei Xiaoping and said, “The true essence I transferred really helped him! Da Huang, quickly transfer some energy to me. If it suits me, then you can transfer it to your master.”

Da Huang opened his mouth and waited for Master Xuanwu to settle down, while wondering why Wei Xiaoping hadn’t shown any change when Master Xuanzhe had transferred energy to him, yet began to recover shortly after Master Xuanwu’s transfer.
